No need for extra domains, CelticRadio.net fits just perfect.

1. it's a network of people who listen to music,
2. it's simple to remember.
3. .com no, becuase this is not a comerical enterprise.
4. 2 domains can become confusing to people, and what if one goes away?
5. celticradio.net is easier to build through search engines.

Cheers,

You make a good argument for CelticRadio.net! Yes, we have no plans on changing the name of the site for the very reason you mentioned. In fact, I think .net is better than .com because .net was original designed for internet services and this is an internet service.

ScottishRadio.net we will probably let go once it runs out because all of the search engines have us listed under CelticRadio.net.

Celtichearts.com we will hold onto and develop as a seperate site at some future point. I am thinking email, hosting and some sort of webportal that is years off in the making.

CelticMusicRadio.com - time will tell if it helps with the search engine listings. Small 1 year investment.

Totally unrelated to this conversation, but my 5 year old daughter is so connected to computers she had a dream last night about barbie.com. She sat up and blurted out barbie.com in her sleep. Her computer is right next to mine and while I am in paintshop pro, she is in kid pix.... smile.gif

Search engines don't go by the name; they go by the amount of hits in the content that is in the site. So celticradio.net would be the same as any other one that you search for. (Once the robots get to it) This is why I think it's silly to have 2 names for 1 site. 1 site, 1 function, 1 name.

I wouldn't mind some themed programming, like pub music/drinking songs on Friday or Saturday night. Otherwise, I like it best the way it is.

P.S. No "Danny Boy". That song is too darn depressing!

Yes, beer_mug.gif Friday/Saturday night Pub Songs would be a very NICE touch. I deifinitly would have it running.

I think it's a problem with the steam. Usally a 2nd server is streaming the content too. Altho it seems like the broad band stream is down or having issues.

Good day,

Been listening for a while, Do you allow your broadband server to be relayed? This may allow more people to hear the near cd quality music.

Cheers,

Killthraka

Hi Killthraka!

Seems that you are knowledgable on this streaming stuff! So if someone else had another shoutcast server setup then we could relay the stream to that server and then provide more bandwidth? Will it show up as "cluster" in the shoutcast listing?

That is what we are doing with the modem stream because we raised so much $$ we actually have an extra 20 slots until the 28th as a carry over from the older service we are using.

Please tell me more details.

As far as listener slots, eventually all of our services will cater to independents and we will have a musician database with agreements directly with the artists thereby by-passing the RIAA and any other entity.

As far as donations, I would be very agreeable to a donation of bandwidth. I am going to have a bit on our donation page about this in the forth-coming weeks.

One of your streams is set up to do it. If you change your broadband stream to allow relaying it would allow other server Admins who want to share there bandwidth to relay your signal. It?s in the sc_serv.conf file; all you need to do or have done is change 2 lines.

________________________________________________________________________________
_________________________________

; AllowRelay determines whether or not other SHOUTcast servers will be
; permitted to relay this server. The default is Yes.
AllowRelay=Yes
Change this line to Yes

; AllowPublicRelay, when set to No, will tell any relaying servers not
; to list the server in the SHOUTcast directory (non-public), provided
; the relaying server's Public flag is set to default. The default is
; Yes.
AllowPublicRelay=Yes Change this to yes as well

; MetaInterval specifies how often, in bytes, metadata sent.
; You should really leave this at the default of 8192, but the option is
; provided anyway.
MetaInterval=8192

Once this is done Server Admins or those who have bandwidth to share can donate their bandwidth.

The rat looking thing is a Beaver. The quote well if your a server admin or work with Linux or UNIX type systems it makes sense. A net monkey is someone who working in the industry and Root means you are the server administrator with the power.

Hi,

The way it works if your sever allow to be relayed. It allows people who have servers to act as a realy for your music.

Give me a shout on MSN, or send me an e-mail at [email protected]

This would not show difference in content or music provided. It will just increase the number of clients that would be able to connect. If the music is being broadcast all ready how does increasing the number of clients change the status?

First, I think I accidentally deleted the ICY error topic. Argh!! I am really sorry, I was trying to move it to the technical support forum

Nope, that?s not what I am talking about. It seems to me that the 64kps server does not allow relaying. In other words, I won't take a signal and rebroadcast it. If the server it self allows people to rebroadcast the signal. Potentially you could get a lot more bandwidth. If people with larger fatter network connections like the music they might rebroadcast the music. The only thing change is who is sending the signal. All the info and songs are feed from the main server.

Cheers,

Killthraka
