hey! Anybody listen to Christian music? I personally love the Contemporary Christian genre. My favorite artists are DC Talk, The Newsboys, Michael W. Smith and many others. I even have some Celtic Christian music! My faves there are a Scottish band called Iona, Eden's Bridge, Ceili Rain and Robin Mark's CD "Revival in Belfast." Looking forward to seeing your faves! smile.gif

I am learning of the Christian music genre quickly as I started singing in our church's Praise Band. biggrin.gif

I don't know one group from another yet, just the printed sheet before me. Maybe I can name the songs and you can tell me the artist. rolleyes.gif

My friend did share with me a Jars of Clay song that was quite nice.

Celtic Christian music? Way cool. That is something I want to check out.

Oh I LOVE Jars of Clay! They have one CD (can't remember the name) that I really love. I think it was their very first. Mercy Me is really good to. Bet you would love them.

Celtic Christian music is awesome. Bet you would love that too! I really love Eden's Bridge. They are all from the UK and play some really beautiful worship music.

Posted by: sylvanus 15-Mar-2004, 03:48 PM
Cheers for Eden's Bridge! and Iona... I bought a Ceili Rain CD but haven't listened to it much.

Michael Card is probably my favourite Christian musician: amazing musician, solid lyrics, and he plays Celtic stuff!

I also like John Michael Talbot, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Keith Green, Phil Keaggy...

I love rock and roll ("so put another dime in the jukebox, baby!")
so I am always looking for rock and roll with a Christian twist to it. Latest find, Switchfoot... they've got a song on MTV's TRL right now, and I'm enjoying their latest album a lot. Very very talented kids indeed, I love the way that guy handles the Les Paul... walkman.gif

dcTalk is probably my all-time favorite Christian band, but then again so is Skillet which is a techno/industrial band that has the best testimony you've ever heard ~ they stop right in the middle of a concert and talk about their faith, about what God's done in their lives, its exactly what the kids at the concert need to hear...

I've never been much for Christian music myself, but Iona is quite nice. And I'm wondering if Twinflame belongs in this catagory. I know that they seem to have a very Christian edge on a lot of what is said in their songs...

The songs aren't directly in praise of Jesus, but there seems to be quite an abundance of Christian refrences in it =) I'm looking forward to getting the CDs in to learn more about it.

I love Michael W. Smith...especially when he's touring with Darlene Zschech on the Songs 4 Worship Tour. If you ever get a chance to see that, then I definately recommend it. thumbs_up.gif

There's also another singer I love...Mark Schultz. He's not as popular as some, but a lot of his music really touches me. One of his songs is "He's My Son". It's written from the point of view of a father who's son has leukemia. It makes me cry every time, because I have a friend who's son had leukemia, and I really know that's how she felt. Thankfully, my friend's son is in remission and is doing great. I played that song to her 2 years after her son went into remission, and she just said, "Yep, that says it all". cry.gif

That song's one of my favourites too... I also love Jars of Clay! Moya Brennan, who is Enya's sister, is a great Christian Celtic singer, but I also love Iona. Christians and Celtic - What a great mix!

I also really like Rock. I own the X 2003 and like some of the cuts. Ska is also great. The OC supertones have really real and powerful lyrics that have some depth to them rather than just wishy-washy.

If you want to check out a good rock band that is just starting up go to www.northofok.com. This is a group i know from when I went to Kansas in the summer. Not only can they sing, but they are also amazing people!

Another good singer is Joel G. (www.joelg.ca) who is also starting up.

I don't know what made me do it, but i was day dreaming today after Mass and wondered what happened to all of the beautiful OLD OLD Marian Hymns that we used to sing when we were in May Crowning processions in the late 50's and 60's? You know what I mean, the ones that made your grandma and mom cry? I always relate those songs with the smells of spring, lilacs and hyacinth. I also remember my class mates girls with fancy white dresses and communion veils, and my buddies and me with our white long-sleeved shirts and red ties, smelling of Vitalis.

Anyway now that I've layed out the picture...(I'm OLD!)

I searched the Internet and found some MIDIs with some old songs that I'd forgotten: "On this Day O Beautiful Mother" "Tis the Month of Our Mother" and "Bring Flowers of the Rarest.." What a walk down memory lane it was!

Anybody else remember those?
Chuck

WOW...S.Blues you and I have the same taste in music. I love Switchfoot and Skillet. I love Christian rock, and I also love all the musician mentioned earlier: Keith Green, Iona (but I thought they were an Irish band?), Moye Brennan (I didn't know she was Enya's sister. Their father is a famous musician/singer in Ireland, and it seems he had an impact).

I could go on and on, but let mention one of my favorite groups..."Delirious?" from the UK. Their new album is wonderful entitled "World Service". Their single "Inside Outside" is climbing the mainstream charts in Germany, and you can view the video on their Web Site. But the song I want you to hear is "Majesty (Here I Am)". It is so beautiful!! Go to their Web Site--www.delirious.co.uk/ You can down load two songs: "Rain Down" which is really wonderful, and "Majesty (Here I Am)". Tell me what you think.

"Delirious?" is an awesome band, but wait until you see them live! On 10 April I will be seeing them again live at a Music Festival in New Orleans. I can't wait. thumbs_up.gif walkman.gif

Here is another reccomendation:

A new artist...Jason Morant. He plays alot at "Aquire the Fire", "Teen Mania", and "Youth Stock". His music is Awesome and Anointed! It takes you to another level of worship. It falls into Praise Alternative Rock. He just finished recording his album in Nashville and will be coming out this May. To check him out go to www.jasonmorant.com I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised.

Delirious is one of my very favorite bands - I remember seeing them for the first time several years ago when our cable tv channel ran a program called Praise or something, and they showed music videos of Christian bands. They showed 'Deeper' and I was grinning like a Cheshire cat by the time it was over! Went right out and got the cd the next day.

I hate to admit it but I haven't been keeping up with them (look of shame) and did not know they have a new album. I'm going straight 'way to listen to those tracks - thank you for telling me about them!

Am I stuck in a rut? Or am I just getting old? I still listen to mid to late 70's Phil Keaggy for my Christian Rock and Roll. Have not found any of the current Christian "POP" music to be that good (IMHO). I'm tempted to go dig out one of my old Larry Norman cassettes!

PS: I did find, about 3-4 years ago, this great CD called "Revival in Belfast" which has a sort of Celtic Rock/Traditional Celtic sound I really like.

I just saw Delirious in concert this past year! It was amazing... They sang Rain Down and I fell in love with it. I got their demo (with those two songs) and I love them both! Good taste

I love Phil Keagy and all, but there are so many other new artists out there that you need to learn about. I am a big Second Chapter of Acts fan and was so disappointed when they split. I saw them in concert once and they were wonderful!

I like DC talk one of the best musical performances that I have ever seen (Christian or not and I have been to a lot of shows), Audio Adrenalin, Jars of Clay, skillet, Julie Miller, Brian Duncan, Keith Green, Crystal Lewis, Larry Norman (I know the guy who plays lead guitar in his band).

I also like Randy Stonehill alot (I had the pleasure of meeting him and his family while on vacation a few years back and becoming friends), he is an excellant performer and a guitar player on the same level as Phil Keagy in my book, plus a kind and humble human being.

We are playing a show at the University of Indianapolis in July that is supposed to have Ceili Rain on the bill so I am looking forward to that and hope that it actually happens.

I used to run in those circles more but it has been a few years so I am a little out of touch with current events in Christian music.

Peace

This looks like a great forum! I've always appreciated religious hymns and choirs. I actually learned to play keyboard through taking lessons on a pipe organ when I was much younger.

We listen to alot of music from a group called Family Worship. I believe they are based in the UK so they got that english choir sound. You can download all of their music from mp3.com.

Oh I agree with that assessment, 110%! We saw them live at the Fox Theater in Atlanta several years ago, on the Supernatural tour, and (only by the grace of God) got third row seats even though I did not order tickets as soon as they were available. This was our daughter's first real live concert and needless to say the band made quite an impression on us all!! We stood in our seats most of the show and never counted out loud with such enthusiasm before or since (Colored People, So Long My Friend)... what an evening.
Kevin Max was right in front of us, but all the guys moved around a lot so we got good looks at everybody. I know the guys are doing solo projects, and we've had the opportunity to see Toby as Toby Mac on tour and Michael Tait with his band 'Tait' last fall. But I still like them as a unit, as a band where their different styles compliment each other and they make such fine music.

I love The Benjamin Gate, Switchfoot, and Relient K.

I also enjoy artists like Steven Curtis Chapman, FFH, and Third Day.

Celtic Christian music is good too... I used to be part of a dance ministry when I was in highschool. We used alot of celtic music for our dances. One of my favorite songs is "Lord of the Dance" - the one that goes "Dance, then, wherever you may be/ I am the Lord of the Dance said He/ and I'll lead you all/ wherever you may be/ and I'll lead you all in the Dance/ said he".

I LOVE the song, Lord of the Dance. Have the Lord of the Dance Celtic CD.

Colored people Rocks!!! I especially like it as I am color blind and I have always looked at people without regard to their color. It's kind of wierd but I feel like it is a tremendous gift.

Another band that I really like (no longer together) Dakota Motor Company. There is a Celtic Punk Band that is pretty hip from JEPUSA the Ballydouse. We played a gig with them and Glen Kaiser about 6 years ago in Menomonie,WI.

Mike, I am color blind when it comes to people too. I have friends from all races, cultures, etc. I just love it cause I get to learn all about them and what makes us different in "other" people's eyes. If I had to do it all over again, I would have studied social psycology in college. I studied some anthroplogy, but sure would have loved to have studied social psychology, but back then I was such a dope. Being on the internet makes it really fun for me cause I get to meet people from all backgrounds and races and I learn so much and have great fun sharing our likes and differences. Maybe if we learned more about each other, there would be less wars......................she says positively. cool.gif

Hiya Rosie!

Just thought I'd drop in and tell you about some of my favorites....

I like a lot of the groups that have already been mentioned... Michael W. Smith(especially the Worship album), Steven Curtis Chapman, Robin Mark (I have both CDs - Revival in Belfast and Come Heal This Land - GOOD stuff!), Hillsong music. I also like Iona, Eden's Bridge and Máire Brennan (even though I'm not Catholic! biggrin.gif )

I have seen two new artists in concert - Jeremy Camp and Casting Crowns and HIGHLY recommend both, especially Casting Crowns! (Those who like the harder rock sound would probably like Jeremy Camp's music... I don't care for the harder sound but I do like Jeremy!) I also like Avalon, Mark Schultz, 4Him and Point of Grace.

Have you heard about the album In Christ Alone, which features a trio of female artists: Margaret Becker, Máire Brennan, and Joanne Hogg (Lead singer of Iona)? This has some good stuff too! Especially the songs Hear All Creation and In Christ Alone. You should check it out!

Posted by: Crowned1 18-Apr-2004, 09:05 PM
Oh! Jeremy Camp is great! He is actually engaged to the lead singer from The Benjamin Gate, the band I mentioned in my previous post on this board. His is one of the best Christian albums to have come out in the past year, in my opinion!

Well this is what I get for taking so long to get back here: ya'll have started talking about some of my very favorite people and I'm missing it! Now I don't know George or Kristy, but Margaret Becker is one of my all-time favorite gal vocalists! I've always loved her song "What Kind of Love", from a couple of years ago... it always stirs something in me that brings a tear of gratitude to my eye. Here's my favorite part:

"What kind of love is this
That You would lay down your life
For someone such as me?
I'll spend a lifetime wondering why
The beauty of heaven chose here in my heart
To pour out its perfect gift...
What kind of love is this?"

Ah pooh, I've got to go blow my nose now I've gotten myself all stirred up....

I love The Benjamin Gate, Switchfoot, and Relient K.

Another fine selection of alternative bands!! My kids like Benjamin Gate better than I do, but I've seen them live once and they are more fun than a tilt-a-whirl... after one concert, the entire band signed t-shirts for my daughter and her friend, and those shirts are treasures now.

Switchfoot?? Well HOO-ahh, to quote Al Pacino! They are the ones I listen to all the time right now... "More than Fine" is my favorite, to the point that it pops into my head nowadays and I start dancing around the house, and my kids will say 'oh no there she goes - she's having a Switchfoot attack again!' I love this band. They rock, they love the Lord, and they have Les Pauls too. What more could you want!?!

Posted by: Crowned1 23-Apr-2004, 01:38 PM
LOL... yeah Switchfoot is excellent! My boyfriend "borrowed" my copy of "The Beautiful Letdown" so now I guess that I have to go find a new one! smile.gif I think that Switchfoot has excellent lyrics too! My dad likes them, but we have yet to win my mom over... she is more of the "Shout to the Lord" type biggrin.gif (thats not a bad thing though!)

HEY! I LIKE Shout to the Lord! smile.gif When I got saved two and a half years ago, that was one of the first Christian songs that I heard (other than the hymns you hear in church), and it is what pulled me into Praise and Worship music, and from there into Contemporary Christian!

But don't give up on your mom! My wife is strictly Southern Gospel, and recently I was able to geet her to admit (though grudgingly) that she likes Michael W. Smith's Worship album, which most definitely is NOT Southern Gospel! So there is hope for her yet! smile.gif (And I'm not through working on my wife just yet either! wink.gif )

"Shout to the Lord" is one of my favorites to sing in church. Our church Worship Ministry is learning three new songs from Delirious's new CD "World Service" to be sung in our Sunday Praise and Worship service..."Inside Outside," "Majesty," and "Raindown." I have to admit we will be rockn' for Jesus. Heck, we jam every Sunday already. I love to worship the Lord, and like S.B. I also dance and worship at home...I think my kids think I'm alittle strange---Hopefully in a good way. tongue.gif wink.gif

So many styles of music can all glorify God! A good friend of mine and I tease each other because we both are Christians but do like different kinds of music: she favors gospel and pop, while I love rock and roll and the occasional dose of industrial or techno. But we both know that good messages are at the core of it all.
Now my dad is another story; he doesn't really think any kind of music other than gospel or traditional church hymns is acceptable. But I've told him how dcTalk, Justifide, Seventh Day Slumber and Skillet give such powerful testimonies during their concerts even tho they rock the socks off the audience, and their songs talk about seeking & finding God instead of negative things...

I thank God that my eyes have been opened about music because otherwise I would have missed both a personal blessing and the chance to enjoy some 'unique' concert experiences with my kids and their friends!

Hallo a h-uile duine!
Hello everybody!

I got this in my e-mail today:

CD of psalms aims to take pop charts by Gael force
http://scotlandonsunday.scotsman.com/scotland.cfm?id=463482004
BEN MCCONVILLE. Scotland on Sunday. 25th April, 2004.

JUST as Gregorian chants took the charts by storm in the 1990s, the
producer
of a new CD of Gaelic psalm singing is hoping to touch the public's
heart.

The music of more than 500 Gaelic speakers at Back Free Church on the
Isle
of Lewis was recorded last October and is being released this week by
Runrig
's label, Ridge Records.

The CD, Salm, the Gaelic for psalm - pronounced "salam" - will also
be a
boost for the battle to preserve the language and culture as it
catches a
wave of resurgent interest.

Calum Martin, an elder at Back, organised the event, which was
recorded by
one of Scotland's leading sound engineers, Calum Malcolm, who has
worked
with Capercaillie.

Martin said: "I knew there were a lot of good precentors in the
Hebrides and
I wanted the opportunity to record them.

"When I heard the quality of the CD I realised that it was good
enough to
tap into that market that was captured by the Gregorian chants CD
some years
ago.

"Although it's a totally different form of worship, similar elements
are
there. It's very moving and spiritual music with a universal appeal.
I think
it will do well."

He added: "This is a form of worship that is unfortunately dying out
and I
wanted to capture it for future generations. There have been
recordings made
by the BBC in the past, but this stands out because of the number of
people
involved and the excellent quality.

"It is hoped that as a result of our efforts, Gaelic psalm singing
will now
be given a real platform on the world ethnomusicologist stage and
beyond."

'Precenting the line', the form of praise featured on the CD, was
practised
all over Britain following the Reformation. Today metrical psalms,
sung
slowly, ornamentally and with precenting, are used only in Gaelic
services
in Presbyterian churches, and only in the Western Isles on a regular
basis.

Morag MacLeod, a musicologist from Edinburgh University,
said: "Lowland
Scots took well to ballad metre, which was familiar to them in folk
song,
and 'reading the line' became so much a part of the church's praise
that it
came to be regarded as a venerable Scottish custom.

"Later church music reformers campaigned to abolish it, and it
gradually
became extinct, except in Gaelic-speaking areas."

Hello all,

I just wanted to give an update to an earlier post I made about the band Jason Morant---His new CD is coming out early June 2004 and he has a new Web Site (very cool) where you can listen to his whole new album entitled "Abandon" to get a preview. He just signed last year with Vertical Records in Nashville, so this is his first nationwide release. I hope you enjoy it. Go to www.jasonmorant.com

Your very welcome...A.
Jason Morant CD is wonderful, better than I thought it was going to be. Believe it or not he is 10x better live. Two of my new favorites on his CD "Abandon" are the songs "Fashion" and "Sing Over Me" which are new to me. Most of the other tracks I've heard at his concerts, which are all wonderful.

Yesterday I finally got to listen to the new Delirious album 'Touch' and I really REALLY liked it alot... goodness me but that guitarist is outSTANDing and I do like those vocals too!! I like the rock sound of this album, not hard rock but powerful nonetheless; its got a shimmery sound sometimes that is amazing, lots of atmosphere & strength...

There is a second disc too that has live tracks of 'Deeper' (my all-time favorite song of theirs so far) and 'I Could Sing of Your Love Forever' - this recording of that last song is wonderful, its arranged differently so it sounds brand new.

Oh poo, I can't stand it - I'm going to run out to the truck and get it out of the cd player and listen to it some more!!

Hey Blue and W.Fowls, Delirious's new album is entitled, "World Service." Yes "Rain down" is on this one---it is on the second track. If you guys want to go and give a listen go to www.delirious.co.uk

"Touch" is an old album, but younger than "King of Fools" album which the song "Deeper" debut on. Well, heck I have all their albums and I have so many favorites it's hard to choose---It depends what day of the week it is and what mood I'm in. But I have to say their latest "World Service" is one of their better albums. I love the tracks "Rain Down," "Majesty," and "Inside, Outside". "Rain Down" and "Inside, Outside" rock!!!!

Hello Aragorn,

Rich Mullins is one of my all time favorite Christian Artist. I love his lyrics and melodies. He was a story teller with an unique perspective. I think he was one of the greatest Poets of our time. I too own everyone of his albums, all except the very first entitled Rich Mullins. When he crossed over the Jordon, it hit me like a ton of bricks because I had just lost my brother two months earlier. Sadly I never got to see him in concert, my family did though.

Glad to meet you. Hope to see you around the different forums.

Raven, I think one reason Rich Mullins didn't answer you is because he was just a simple man and never got into the hipe of being famous or enjoyed hearing praises of himself. Now if you would have started talking about the weather or helping children, etc.---you and he would have probably had a real long conversation. People I know met him after one of his concerts and he went their book store to sign autographs for 30 minutes, but when he saw a banner they had put up which read "Our God is Awesome" he totally freaked out and got all excited. He stopped signing autographs and played his hammerd dulcimer and sang for everyone in that tiny book store for two hours. He had just finished performing a two hour concert earlier. I was in college at the time, so I missed it. The lady I know said he was such a humble and down to earth person.

That is one thing I loved about Rich, he's simplicity and down to earth nature. I loved to hear him play the hammer dulcimer, such an incredible instrument. I would definately agree with the fact he was one of the greatest poets of this generation. Each song was thought provoking and struck a cord deep in my soul. In the presence of Rich Mullins I would have babbled on too. biggrin.gif

Besides being an awesome poet, Rich was also a wonderful writer of prose. I have a collection of his columns He wrote between 1991-1996 for Release magazine in his column entitled, "Play It Again." He had great insights and perspectives about faith, life, and human-nature. It is where I get my quotes in my signature.

I like Gospel music. I've always liked the old gospel. I've never cared much for the new christian rocknroll. I've always thought christian music should be different than what I would call worldly music.

Posted by: Roisin-Teagan 21-May-2004, 04:01 AM
Hey, I love the old greats too.

But I want to remind you that a lot of the old hyms were set to the popular music of their day. Meaning they took some popular music sung in pubs and taverns and changed the words to religious verses. So during that time, many (religious) people were shocked at the blazen sacrelige.

But also love what God is doing new within his body in regards to Christian music. God created music, and He is very diverse---just look at nature.

Posted by: wizardofowls 21-May-2004, 08:12 PM
aklassie, I agree that the old gospel songs are great, but I also see nothing wrong with the new music! Many times in the Psalms we are told to "sing a NEW song" unto the Lord! I think the Lord finds joy in our creativity, otherwise why would He inspire so many people to write new songs? It is only natural that we as humans would be inspired by the music that we hear around us. In Jesus' days He would have listened to Jewish hymns. As much as I love Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art, they just weren't around in Jesus' days! And if Christian music didn't change with the times, we would not have such gems today! We would STILL be listening to the same Jewish-inpired music! So why should musical style suddenly stop and sound only like those songs written in the 1700s or 1800s or early 1900s?

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to put you down or your opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect yours. There are types of Christian music out there that I don't like. I'm not crazy about the Christian Rap music or the music that sounds like heavy metal, or even Southern Gospel! But I am so glad that our God is big enough that He has inspired these people to write such music for those that DO like it! Otherwise, rather than seeking the Gospel inspired variety, those who like these types of music would just turn to the worldly variety and forget all about God! Rather than hearing a rap song about the love of God, they could be listeneing to something like "Cop Killer!"

Just MHO.... smile.gif

Chuck

I'm getting in way late in this thread...

I guess I prefer the more traditional hymns like "Amazing Grace" and the Celtic/Celtic-inspired hymns like "Lord of The Dance".

At my parish, it's the same songs every year for May Crowning: "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman", "Immaculate Mary", and "Hail, Holy Queen". "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman" is my favorite of those three, but "Immaculate Mary" sounds nice with a childrens' choir.

I personally do not like rap music even Christian rap music. So I guess we are all different. 'Vive le differance!'

I wish our church would play some of the old hyms once in a while. What was old will become new again to a new generation. Especially "How Great Thou Art!" My belief is don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Just because times are changing we shouldn't throw away the old classic standards---but keep them right along with the new.

"How Great Thou Art" is one of my favorites, and I'm fairly young. I'm told that it was one of my grandpa's favorites also, and that the choir at his funeral did a beautiful rendition of it. If you want to hear a good version, download The Mormon Tabernacle Choir's rendition.

There is a new 'praise band' that has formed at our church and for a few weeks now they've been performing one or two songs in the Sunday morning services. There has been such an outpouring of negative reaction from our older congregation members its going to end soon... I know the loudness of the misic bothers some of the people and my own parents don't like the style of songs (dad still believes unless its gospel music or a traditional hymn, its not praising God) but for the sake of young people in the congregation I wish they'd be more tolerant.

I am happy listening to all kinds of music and totally believe that anything from the Gaithers to Skillet to POD is acceptable in God's eyes!

Our church has two services and a few years back one went from a blended service to a Praise service, loud music and all. It was a very rocky period, but the storm has been weathered. I wish your church could turn down the amps a bit and give it a chance. Unfortunately, the hardest thing for most churches is change. And what is funny, iafter it gets established, the congregation isn't divided old vs young, but by those who perfer one type of more casual service vs. the more traditional. Picnic feel vs. dining out. Many older people come regularily to our New Creation Service and many younger people prefer to attend the traditional.

Posted by: CelticRose 26-May-2004, 03:19 PM
Well, when you figure that the most of the congregation of any church is mostly older, it is very hard for them to accept "our" music and it just plain hurts their ears. However, I love the contemporary sound too. My church has been slowly be surely getting it that way and it has been real blessing and made all the difference in worship...............to me!

Posted by: Roisin-Teagan 26-May-2004, 05:23 PM
I think to get around the older/traditional folks having strokes over the decimal of the amps and the hip styles of the New Praise music is to hold two different services. Maybe a more traditional Sunday morining service and Contemporay/Rock'n Praise worship service on Sunday nights. Those who perfere one over the other will naturally drift toward the desinated worship time.

My church worships only to the lastest praise music (the early 90's to the present). I love the sound of the lead electric guitar and the drums. Our church's vision is to be cutting edge both in appoach and sound. I love it there!!!!! But as I posted earlier it would be nice to hear some of my old favorites.

Cheers,
Roisin angel_not.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 26-May-2004, 05:29 PM
I think you are very right about that Roisin. That is what our church did in Atlanta. Had two services, one traditional and one contemporary and that took care of the problem!

I know one of the churches out here has a special praise night set aside every now an then, once a month I think, specifically for the younger people. My church has about an even mix of older people and younger. Our paster, who also leads music, mixes it up between hymns and newer choruses and gospel songs. Everyone seems to like worship and appreciates it. I've visited churches where all the sing is choruses and I found that I missed the hymns. I also visited churches that only sang hymns and I missed the energy of the newer songs.

celticrose,

As far as I know they have 3 cd's out. "Livin' it up when I die" is the newest one that I have. It is great. The other one is self titled. It is also good. As well as doing new songs they also perform some traditional ones such as "raggle taggle gypsy" "Irish Rover" and some jig sets. One of my favorites is a bonus track on the first cd, I think it is called "Well Dunn" or something close to that. They also have a live album, but I have not listened to that one. They have a new album out called "Reel, Folk N' Rock N' Roll" I havn't heard anuthing on it yet though. Their website is www.theelectrics.com So far though I highly recommend both their self titled and "Livin it up when I die"

Does anyone know who Steve Agrisano is?

My band is opening for him and Ceili Rain on July 10th and I hear he is a major deal.

Just curious. unsure.gif

Don't know the Steve Agrisano! I have two of Ceili Rain's CDs and they are wonderful! Funny too! They do this one song about being in the back of a black cadillac (where we all end up) which I think is hysterical!

Let us know how you like both artists!

I love Southern Gospel music, for the harmony and the "Old Style" air of it. But for daily listening, it's contemporary. Groups? Avalon, FFH, Jaci Velasquez, Point of Grace, Crystal Lewis, and many others in this genre.

There is also a style of Bluegrass Gospel that I truly love and grew up with in my FancyGap Virginia home. One of my absolute favorite songs in this style is called "The Blood" by a group called the McHamey's. So wonderful.
