Firefox, whats the bennies?

can one of you techies out there give me the lowdown on firefox web browser?

what are the benifits over IE if any....

Firefox gives you a lot of options that are not in IE. It has the ability to block pop-up and cookies without buying anything. It also allows for easy extension to add features. And its free.

I use it on all of my systems (Linux and Windows).




Did I mention that Uncle Bill does not get one red cent from this product.

It's infinitely more stable, and tab browsing!!!!!

Based on Netscape, but so much better.

don't know all taht much about computers but i do know that i use both modzilla and firefox.....the guy i use says not many people know about them so there is not big problems with too many user......other than that,who knows

Customize it to the gills, and if it doesn't do what you want, well just write a piece for it that does for fomd where someone else has:

Browser hijacking? What's that?
(doesn't use the holes that hijackers exploit, and runs on several systems completely immune to malware)

the pop-up blocking isn't perfect, but it cuts out I'd say 98%
(You can't bribe a company into letting your pop-up through)

Runs on just about anything you might want to run it on. I run it on Linux, XP, and 2000. It runs on Mac, and I used to run it on Solaris (I no longer have that machine operating). I keep aiming to put it on my 486, but I have yet to get the patience to configure X on it.
(if you can boot it, it'll run it, maybe I should run it on my iPod after I get a new one)

It's rock solid, Micro$oft doesn't have their grimy paws on it and Crudpuppy doesn't like it.
(so it'll probably keep all the cool features, get more, remain solid, and remain open source)

Then there's the customizable search window built into it, which rules too.

Also, a somewhat handy download manager (although I have a patch to display all that in a status bar... gets it out of the way)
(keeps it all together, instead of those messy little clueless dialogs)

It's Open Source, so you can custom build it for *YOUR* computer to run the way *YOU* want it to (provided you have the required tools)

It doesn't try to get away with violating the HTTP RFC, and thereby causing slow performance when talking to a real web server
(I found out when debugging this site that IE does try to cut corners, which causes stuff to break, Firefox plays nice though and so runs faster)
