Ok, anyone make a New Years resolution?

Posted by: sulbig 03-Jan-2004, 06:55 AM
I don't make new year's resolutions. However, I do take the time to think about where I am, and what I hope to accomplish during the upcoming year. But the fastest way for me to not get something accomplished is to make it a requirement to get it done. tongue.gif

I'm just rebellious like that...even with my own rules. rolleyes.gif

Nope. Never. Actually, for me, it is a futile excercise, as I will always end up breaking it through sheer lack of willpower. wink.gif

As I have said before, I have enough guilt from my daily life as a Catholic, that I don't need to add the guilt of breaking a new year's resolution too. laugh.gif

Just my tuppence.

I made one to loose weight, but most likely I will end up breaking it before long.

I used to make them, but I would always break them. So I quit. Don't need any extra guilt. Already have enough. smile.gif

Even though I do not like making any New Years Risolutions. I decided to make one this year and that is to go fishing more than I did last year. Like and Old Doctor who was a Friend of mine who has since passed told me "For everyday you fish, you live another day."

I made a resolution to get back on the exercise bike. I was doing good for a while, but then our old one broke and we had to get a new one. The old one just happened to break right around the holidays, and with all those sinful little goodies we had, I can tell I've put some weight back on.

BTW, just to add something to this discussion, what was the last New Years resolution you made that you followed through on?

Myself, it was three years ago when I told myself that it was gonna be the year to quit smoking. Three years later, I am tobacco-free. I used the nicotine patch to wean myself off of the tobacco, and chewed a lot of sugarless gum to take care of the oral satisfaction (had to choose my words carefully there naughty.gif ).

I'm proud of ya, Mike. thumbs_up.gif thumbs_up.gif thumbs_up.gif Tobacco is a very unhealthy habit and expensive. I had a friend who was a smoker. She got cancer and was on oxygen. Poor woman had the habit so bad she took her oxygen off to smoke. I miss her dearly. Need I say more! sad.gif

Unlike most people, I didn't quit for health reasons. I quit because it was getting too expensive, even in Indiana (which is where I bought my smokes-it was cheaper there than in Illinois). If my memory serves me correctly, the last I paid for a carton of cigarettes was about $30 ohmy.gif .

Never do 'em.. simply because I don't see the point. Why start in the new year? Why not at any time of the year?

Posted by: Elspeth 05-Jan-2004, 11:45 AM
I've made three this year. It just seemed like a good time to regroup and start out again fresh.

1 - I am going to try and get at least seven hours of sleep a night
2 - I am going to eat more vegetables, drink more water and excercise more
3 - 2004 is the year I will be published.

Check back with me in a year to see how I did...........

What's the point of new years resolutions? I know what I want to do. that's enough. I want to:

Finish my story
study
visit the isles
learn
LFS my router
write
get off the help desk
learn, learn, learn
speak more languages better
study, study, study
get decent w/ a pennywhistle
write, write, write

Brighid, bean sidhe na anam
Durch die dunkelheit, Ich höre Sie
Bringing the light of the word, to my life

Live, learn, preserve, discover.

How is everyone doing with their resolutions? I didn't make any and I've lost 5 pounds.

My resolution 20 years ago to never make resolutions is going great!!!

My New Years Resolution was to slow down time.
I'd like to enjoy life. Not work myself to death. Instead of wishing for tomorrow, enjoy today.
Also my other resolution was to always be sweet, loving and courteous to everyone even when they don't deserve it. Already blew this one, go figure!

2 months in the year now, and there are many things i wished i had decided would have been my resolution so that i would have some thing to help me stick to it rather than just thinking about getting around to it...still, I don't get depressed when i fail at accomplishing something that needed a special day just for it rather than an average days responsibility if you take my meaning.

Well it's almost tax day and I think I've broken every new years resolution I made before the first of the year....my bad!

That's not true. You said you were going to get in shape for the wedding and you have been working out and dieting.

Everyone will be checking you out, instead of your new daughter-in-law.
