| I'd like to get something started here in the Ireland forum to spice things up. For all who would like to take the time to help with this little project it would be very kindly appreciated. I have been in love with Ireland for a very long time, even as a young girl in jr. high school this place has always held an attraction for me. Sadly to say, I've never been there but I hope to make my dreams come true one day! Now for the big question?! If there was one person from the past or present... an ancestor, the High King of Ireland, Bono or whoever... must be Irish or was a big part of Irish history... and you could sit down and talk to, who would it be? As for myself I'll have to do some researching, I have a few persons that hold a great interest for me. Not only is Ireland beautiful but she has character and the men and women of the past and present makes her what she is today!!! Thanks for reading and I hope that you decide to participate. You may want to let us know why you have chosen this person as your most favorite, it's entirely up to you! Have fun!!! |

| Madadh, I think I would want to talk to my 5th great grandfather, Pryor Sexton. I can't find out exactly who his father was. One of his brothers was in the Revolutionary War and in a letter to get his war pension he stated his father was from Ireland but never gave his father's name. It's like hunting for a needle in a hay stack! |

| Each time that I have been to Shrule, Ireland, I have had the opportunity to have discussions with my relatives. Most of those discussions end the same way. They would all say, the only person who can answer that is Patrick Egan. The man who is to the left of this post. Patrick was a quiet man and went about his business. Even the towns people to this day, can tell stories about him and have great respect for him, though he passed away in 1907. He is truely, the only one who can answer some of my questions about family history. |

| For my family it was my grandfather Rob. He died before the mini-series roots came out. That is when my father got interested in and traced our family tree. My dad talked to all of his aunts and uncles and they would all tell him that Rob new all those things. |

| It would be St Patrick for me too although Michael Collins and Grace O'Malley would be on that list. Meeting Tommy Makem brings back some memories. As for the living I was fortunate enough to have already met President Mary McAleese two years ago so Enya is next. Leprechaun and faeries is what I would met the way my luck runs. Hopefully no grand banshees that change into crows and look like Whoppi Goldberg |

| Whoopi Goldberg played the grand banshee in a Irish movie called the Magical Legend of the Leprechauns. It was originally called the War of the Leprechauns. It also stars Randy Quaid, Colm Meaney(Engineer-Star Trek-Next Gen), Kierran Culkin (Malachy's brother), and Roger Daltry (The Who). A must see faerie movie. |

| Corny and Cheesy-yes but it makes it all the more fun to watch. Haven't had a feel good faerie movie in years so now I'm kind of waiting to see what the Spiderwick cronicles are going to be like. Brian Boru would be another one to meet. |

| Great thread, Maggie! I, too, hope to get over to Ireland one day. I would want to talk to one of my great-grandmothers who came over from Ireland in the 1700s. Sadly, her father died on the ship before they reached the colonies and he had to be thrown over board into the sea. That must have been a horrific experience for a young girl of 10. I would also want to talk to Bono. He seems like an amazing person and one who appears to walk his talk. I am a huge Corrs fan and would love to sit and chat with them about their music and life in Ireland. St Patrick, of course. Good one, Rindy! And Daniel Day Lewis, who I think is an amazing actor and appears to have such care of others and depth to himself. And I LOVE St Patrick's Day! It's one of most favorite holidays too! Especially to watch and listen to the St Patrick's Day special on the QVC channel just to listen to their beautiful brogue, learn about their culture and history. And, of course, I always manage to buy something too.  |

I think I would like to sit down and talk with William Butler Yeats. When I went to Ireland I visited where he is buried in Sligo and was completely taken aback by what was written on his tombstone "Cast a cold eye on life, on death." because that is exactly my kind of thinking as well more than I care to admit sometimes. I would like to get to know that gentleman and really know about his life. LOA. |
