Guys out now! We see ya peeking in here! Out wit ya!

Caution: THIS ROOM IS FOR FEMALES ONLY! and may included subjects that may embarass the men folk...such as Who colors their hair. The names of individuals has been changed to protect the innocents! biggrin.gif

We girls use to have a thread that was for us girls only and we could discuss anything and everything in there. Somewhere along the way we lost that thread and the guy only thread reminded me of our room being gone.

So here we are again. Go Girls!

Posted by: Shadows 16-Sep-2004, 08:07 PM
Both those rooms are still there if you go back through the pages at the bottom of the topics... OH BOO! I bet I scared you haha! LOL!

I am not supposed to be here LOL!

Posted by: Ceciliastar1 16-Sep-2004, 11:16 PM
Haha! Cool! So someone start a topic!

Posted by: scotelass 16-Sep-2004, 11:46 PM
Ok....If you could have your dream job, what would it be?

Posted by: Tassiecelt 16-Sep-2004, 11:55 PM
Oops....caught out!

Well, you all did it to me with my 'men only' post!
Guess we just can't help ourselves...

I'll leave you ladies in peace, you too Shadow, off you go lad! wink.gif angel_not.gif biggrin.gif

On the other thread we talked about hormones! Some of you young uns' don't have to worry about that now. biggrin.gif You know the old hot flashes, and mood swings. We always had the guys to come in and state their opinions, for what they were worth! rolleyes.gif

BTW Girls, have any of you seen the music video by Terri Clark, Girls Lie Too? Fantasy! wink.gif Johnny Dep or Wayne Newton!

Everyone have a good day!

Hmmm....my dream job! Astronomy, definately. I could look at the stars for the rest of my life!

And I would have to go for Johnny Depp, maggiemahone, but I haven't seen Teri's video. My daughter is into country music, but not me.

Wandering off topic here (since my mind only functions in 'wander' mode anyway! ) I have always wanted to start a topic for us single moms out here - kind of a support network or what have you. What do ya'll think?

Posted by: Danann 17-Sep-2004, 09:23 AM
My dream job? To be a full time writer. I dabble now, but I have so many ideas for books that I'd like to explore, but with a full time job, one that requires overtime at that, there's not so much time for all that creativity to pour out. As it is now, I try to take at least a few hours to write at night, but sometimes I am just too tired!

As for the single mom's thread. I'd say post it and see where you get. The only thing I am a parent of is an Australian Shepherd, so my helpful hints would be more geared to "bap them on the nose."

Posted by: susieq76 17-Sep-2004, 09:46 AM
That sometimes works for kids, too, Danann wink.gif And being a parent of a dog is still being a parent biggrin.gif

I may try that. How do I go about posting a forum? Or would this be more of a thread??

Posted by: Ceciliastar1 17-Sep-2004, 10:50 AM
Dream job huh? Wow! I want to make it to Hollywood and direct and produce some very good movies. I love fantasy movies, we need more of them. A movie I would have loved to work on is Peter Pan. It looks like it was fun. Red carpet here I come!
I'm going to have to say Johnny Depp. Drink up me 'earties yo ho!
I'm not a mother of anything but your idea sounds great!

Yes, I do miss that thread and I am glad you brought it back, Annebelle.

As for my dream job, hmmm... It would have to do something with art history. Traveling perhaps.... if you could fit that into one job that would be my dream job. biggrin.gif I also would love to collect art and books, have my own personal library... sigh...

Johnny Depp, no question... I think I've talked about him before... angel_not.gif

I think it's a great idea to start a thread about Single Moms! Everyone would benefit from the support and sharing of different approaches, and insights.

As to my Dream job....that's just it, I do a lot of daydreaming. There are times when I wonder if it's too late to become a Garden Designer. I'm always making notes to myself while browsing through my favorite catalogs, imagining which plants will go well together and where to put them. Of course, our budget doesn't allow for the thick plantings that I dream up! But I enjoy trying out different plant combinations in my mind, all the same. Now, if I could put those dreams and ramblings into a real garden........!! When I'm not dreaming about gardening, I think that someday I'd like to learn to be a potter. My Grandfather had his own Wheel, made his own slip, and did very well with it as a second business. He used to let us kids have a go on his wheel, and I enjoyed it very much. It was hard to make the clay do what I wanted it to do, but I think it would just take practise and patience, like everything else. I'd set up my studio at the edge of the woods (which is where my garden would gradually end, of course!), and let design ideas come from Nature. How's that for Dreaming!? rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

It seems to me that if you have any celtic blood in you at all then you love to dream! My dream job would have to be a Bridal consultant and Event planner, about 6 months ago, I just decided to start advertising my talents with a business card and now I'm working on a website. When I get it launched I'll let you guys see it and if anyone is getting married, I am more than willing to travel!!!! smile.gif ....about the post, it sounds like a fantastic Idea, I think it would give a forum for all parents to converse not just single parents and it would teach us who are pet parents how to prepare for child parenting! thumbs_up.gif

DEFINITELY JOHNNY DEPP!!!!! OOOO BABY! wub.gif heart.gif inlove.gif kiss1.gif kiss2.gif kisss.gif love.gif

biggrin.gif Hey sis, it was a good idea to start this thread again...

Now as for a dream job...well, actually there really is a DREAM or better said two of them.
One is to be a writer with enough time to do so...and wee bit success might be very appreciated, too!
Another dream is working in the field of a nonmedical practitioner which is a very dear dream to me...though I'm already of "matured" age tongue.gif I don't think it was too late at all to work on this dream. Now, as my sons are growing up (15 and 19) I will have more time to work on my own life again. So we will see...

Nothing bad at all with a single Mom's thread...I hear you, susieq... smile.gif

And last but not least....Johnny Depp...no question!! rolleyes.gif

OR! you color your hair? No way! I'll never tell anyone!

Posted by: ImmortalAvalon 18-Sep-2004, 03:01 PM
Mmmmmmmmm, my dream job, huh? Well, I am a confessed history nerd, and I love to read. I would love to get paid to just sit in a library or museum and read historical texts, whether by modern authors or my the people themselves.

And, umm, of course, angel_not.gif , I wouldn't turn down a job as a chocolate taster, either.

Posted by: Elspeth 18-Sep-2004, 03:03 PM
OOooooo Johnny Depp!!!! But I think it's a look-a-like in the video. Anyone know for sure?

Dream job? To not have to work. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Color my hair! Sister A!! How could you even suggest such a thing!!! My roots naturally lighten every month until I get around to putting that 'conditioner' on it. laugh.gif

Parenting? Duct tape. What I hate is in all those childbirth classes and books they never tell you what you really need is a black and white striped shirt and a whistle. I spend my life being a referee.

Why don't we plan a girls night out? We all bring blenders and fixing for our favorite drinks and sleeping bags. And if any of us snore, we politely pretend we didn't notice. rolleyes.gif

Ok Annabelle, I wont peek anymore

Sorry to disappoint you gals, that was the video producer that portrayed JD on Terri Clark's music video. Shucks, I just burst my own bubble! biggrin.gif JD is certainly a hunk! I don't watch a lot of country music videos, I was flipping thru the channels one day and it was playing and caught my eye. I got a laugh out of it, especially at the end of the video! wink.gif

I have to confess, Johnny Depp is really not that big a deal to me. Sorry girls, you can have him.

Color my hair? No, but I've been accused more than once.

Hugh Jackman does it for me.....and sadly, I am totally crushing on someone who doesn't even exist - Legolas. I don't fancy Orlando - just Legolas. My best friend says that's because I prefer my men long-distance, hee hee! That way I don't have to let them get too close to me.....ahem. We won't comment on that little nugget of wisdom, now will we? Honestly? Any man who has a pulse and shows the least bit of interest gets me excited. I'm very picky, but fall easily in love with the thought of being in love.

Elspeth, I agree about that girls night out thing! And Dreamer1, I love gardening - it's never too late to do what you love. My mom says I ought to be a landscaper or gardener for a living (but you can't make a living off of that, right?).

Maybe I will start a thread for single parents. I know I could use the advice!!

Posted by: Ceciliastar1 20-Sep-2004, 11:10 AM
Color my hair? no. I like my nice brunette hair with very suttle blonde highlights. Ahhh.... Mel Gibson, i like him too. To bad he's old enough to be my father! haha! He's a great actor though.

What are all ya'lls hobbies?
I love to paint watercolors. I haven't done it in a while and I hope to pick it up again. I love playing music on the piano and tin whistle. Oh yeah! Eating is a very big hobby of mine!!!!!

Posted by: susieq76 20-Sep-2004, 12:02 PM
I have been told I would have made a great hobbit, as my hobbies are eating, talking, gardening, sitting around watching the world go by and reading. I also like to crochet and knit, and do jigsaw puzzles.

We actually call mum a hobbit for these reasons, as well as the leathery feet she got from being a farm girl her entire life. tongue.gif

For me it is Johhnny Depp, but I also like Russel Crowe. wub.gif

I love to paint and draw, read, visit this site biggrin.gif and hang with friends.

As to hair color, whatever I am in the mood for. It happens to be black at the moment, but naturally a light brown (almost dark blonde color) I think unsure.gif

Hello everyone, just checked this forum out and have to say that my taste lies with guys more in the direction Colin Firth and Alan Rickman but also Johnny Depp is a hunk to look at especially since he got older. smile.gif

But I think everyones taste tends to vary which I think is a good thing, otherwise we all would like to the same guys and that would be boring. gossip.gif

Posted by: Cailiosa 20-Sep-2004, 05:41 PM
Colin Firthis very nice, though I'll always see him as Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice. That's ok, though, it's a nice image. tongue.gif
Liam Neeson and Mel Gibson are both nice as well (Seriously, what is it with me and guys that are old enough to be my father?).

Posted by: Monarch's Own 21-Sep-2004, 05:43 AM
Hey I know what you mean and you are right - Liam Neeson and Mel Gibson are a sight to look at and also Christopher Lambert and Adrian Paul.

Is he the guy who plays Duncan McLeod in the tv version of Highlander? If so, I totally agree with you. Must be the accent. tongue.gif

Posted by: susieq76 21-Sep-2004, 09:00 AM
I think it is the accents. I too love Colin Firth! The dude who plays Captain Picard on Star Trek is a hottie, too. And Christian Bale (since I wanted to be fair to men our age!), too.

Sorry, oldraven, I'm not your mum. I have an 8 year old (9 tomorrow!) going on 30!

Posted by: Monarch's Own 21-Sep-2004, 09:28 AM
Yes Adrian Paul is playing Duncan MacCloud in the TV Series Highlander - and Christopher Lambert is the one from the original Highlander Movies but I have to admit that Sean Connery is also still a good looking man. Must be the Scots-Blood that makes my head turn. LOL king.gif thumbs_up.gif thumbs_up.gif thumbs_up.gif

I also have a 9 year old son and he will be 10 in February.

Doesn't time just fly? I have been a bit misty-eyed today. I can't believe my tiny little girl is going to be 9. Just too much for me to take in. I'm feeling overly moody today.....must be those hormones tongue.gif (as she hears all the boys go scurrying!)....

I think I need some cheese to go with my whine... cry.gif

Well, I do have to agree that Colin Firth is a great actor, and that I used to be big on him. But he played in one movie that really turned me off. Don't know what it was called but it was about this girl who went to live with her father in
England and he was trying to act her age. The leather pants were really weird.
But he was great in P&P and The Importance of Being Earnest. That was funny and straight from the book.

As to my particular choice, I'd have to say that anyone with dark wavy hair (like C. Firth or O. Bloom) is of high rating. But that's not to say that blonde guys are out. Particularly, Cary Elwes and Jeremy Sumpter (if he were much older).

Just my opinion.

I just finished reading that book, but have yet to see the movie. It is rather dull until the fourth chapter when they actually introduce Nicholas. But after that, I found it completely engrossing. Definite recommendation. thumbs_up.gif

BTW, I thought of a favorite American actor.
Matt Damon. Whoa. I mean, whoa.

My sister sent this to me. Some make me laugh, others give us something to remember.

Amen!

OH- LA-LA George Clooney is one hunk of a man. I loved watching him on ER. When he left the show, it just wasn't the same.
Someone mentioned Tom Selleck, I think he is one fine specimen of a MAN! He has that rugged masculine look. The kind that makes your heart speed up and you get all hot and flushed! Must be those hormones, again! angel_not.gif

I've seen him in so many movies (not to mention "Magnum P.I."), and he always gets my heart thumpin'! I can't decide if it's his eyes, his voice, his dimples, the way he twitches his eyebrows, his ruggedness, all of the above..........???????? It doesn't matter!! **sigh** wub.gif

I'm afraid it's been a Looooonnnggg winter, I've spent part of it as a forced couch potato, and now I've got to pay the piper (as it were) for too many extra pounds. HELP!!!! I have been there once, on a free visit....... I felt very out of place there. It might have been the atmosphere, which was a little bit too quiet for me.

My husband and I have a gym in our garage and that's where we work out, can have the music as loud as we want and work as fast or slow as we like.

...now it's time to grab a couple of cold ones and do the honors, if cooking over a charcoal fire, be sure that the coals are heaped very close to the grill and start the steaks out in the hottest part of the fire. Watch for flare ups and just gently pick up the steak and move it a minute to keep from scorching. If you did a five minute soak in dry white wine and garlic, really the only flare up danger is from the bacon wrapped around...

Depends on the wedding. If you're going for the BIG church wedding, catered reception, etc. then you're probably talking $20,000 range as a minimum. If you go for a scaled back version, no sit down dinner etc. then you could get by for $5,000. And if they drive to the Justice of the Peace, then $20.00 should do it.

As I had two sons, I got to pay for rehearsal dinners. One son (married in '99) had everybody and his brother at the rehearsal dinner; cost $2,000. The other son (married in '03) had a small rehearsal dinner with just wedding participants and parents; cost $1,300.

Man I knew years ago had three daughters. He planned to nail a ladder to the side of the house. rolleyes.gif

Wedding

My wedding didn't cost much - about 20 dollar for the cake, 10 dollar for the cake topper and about 50 bucks for the the cold cuts and other things.

Well I have to admit I only had 2 extra people at my wedding. My friend and coworker at the time and her daughter. My son played Best"Man" for my husband.

That was about it. I bought me a white dress and shoes and a few accessoires so I ended up paying about 100 bucks for my clothes and for my husband we spend approx. 10 bucks on a nice shirt. He had pants and shoes. And an extra 10 bucks for a nice shirt with tie for my son.

So we left pretty cheap.

After the guests left husband, son and me went to the movies and had a nice time.

That was a quick and easy wedding and we had a good time.

We wanted a bigger wedding with friends and family but since we had to get married in a jiffy because of the Army. My husband signed a few days after our wedding the papers for the Army to rejoin and we wanted to have that issue behind us so we wouldn't run into any problems changing the orders after we got married - always a hassle to change things in the Army.

So big expensive Weddings are not my thing I guess. biggrin.gif

I think we paid $16 dollars for the marriage license and another $12 for the Justice of the Peace. I got married in jeans and a sweater. There was no honeymoon and family was NOT invited! biggrin.gif

I've never been to the one by us, however, I haven't heard anything positive about it. Apparently, no one going there has been very successful. From what I've heard, there's more chit-chatting among the women during the sessions, than working out. I stick by Weight Watchers. If you're willing to stick with their plan, then it is effective! I just can't seem to keep my motivation going!

For me I have bought the Windsor Pilates tapes and they work really well. When I first started using them within a week I had lost 4 pounds!! I didn't see any results anywhere but I did on the scale. I'm the type that doesn't like to go to the gym alone unless I have someone else there to motivate me but with the tapes I do them in the privacy of my own home and I like that. They are a bit expensive but worth it!! Just a thought for ya!

As for the wedding...when I was married before it cost us around $5000 but we did everything ourselves. My dress was about $700, my maid of honor and bridesmaids just rented their dress since they basically were only going to use them once. We rented his tux and the same with the groomsmen and best man. For the food we just had it like a buffet. We had some much food left over that we could feed everyone three times over.
The most expensive things were the hall and the dj's. Our church was free since his cousin went there and we had a basic service.
My father rented us two white wedding cars for the wedding party so that saved us money there and the bar was a cash bar that the hall took care of.
Our photographer was someone I knew so we saved money there but if I was to do it again I would have spent money on a professional photographer. The only pictures we liked were the close ups that she did!
After the wedding we didn't go on a honeymoon since all of our money went into the wedding. Next time I'm going on a honeymoon and having a simple small wedding!!

What kind of foods would you serve at a lunch time reception girls?

Hi Dreamer1, I know exactally how you feel. I finally got motivated one day right before Christmas when I went to put on an outfit and it didn't fit! In fact nothing fit me well anymore. So I decided, that was it, I would join a gym for New Years. I had never belonged to a gym before, I only ever excercised in my home, alone. I saw a sign for $10 for the first month in my local Slim and Tone, (very similar to Curves, but has more classes), so I bit the bullet and walked in. The owner, Christine, showed me around and explained the circuit (the different machines, called stations). She made me feel very welcome and at ease. It is a circuit where you are on a machine (exercising arms, legs or abs), for 1 minute, then there's this guy on a tape loop that tells you that you have 30 seconds left, then 15 seconds, then when it is time to change stations. Between each machine you jog, jump rope, junping jacks, use dumbells etc., the object being that you keep moving and your heart rate up. They also have treadmills, gliders, pilates balls, even the bun and thigh machine (as seen on TV). If you are really motivated, you don't bother chatting, just concentrate on keeping those abs tight. But it is nice to chat once in awhile, knowing that you are all there for the same purpose, to lose weight and get in shape. I can't tell you how much more energy I have now. I even took a Tai Chi class and will start a Yoga class and an aerobics class soon. I try to work out 5 times a week. I know it sounds like a lot but I really, really hate my flab!! I am noticing that my after 3 months I feel great, my clothes are fitting better, and I have so much more pep! I say, give it a try and see if it's for you, most curves and such let you try it free for a week...but, remember you are the one who can make you stick to it! Good luck!

We have a Curves near us too. Have heard a lot about it.......good and not so good. Depends on who you talk to. For me? I don't have the guts to walk in those places so I buy exercise videos off Collage Video and have a recumbant bike at home. I am also doing a basic diabetic diet, even though I am not diabetic. My doctor says it is the best. so far I have lost 22 pounds since Christmas.

Annabelle, what your friend could do for her flowers if she doesn't mind plastic is do her bouquets herself. My maid of honor and I did all the bouquets and it cost me around $100-$150. We just went to different craft stores and bought flowers. If she wants real you might want to check out a greenhouse, I imagine they might have fresh flowers cheap. Something to try!!!

With her luncheon she could try salads, meat platters and maybe even little sandwiches and even little desserts maybe. I'm not really sure what else to suggest since all the wedding receptions I have been to have been at night.
Hope this helps ya!! happy.gif

Moon child thanks for the tips about the flowers. We have a whole sale house in Macon where I can get the flowers. Denise the grooms mom use to do flowers at Calaway Gardens so I put her in charge of the flowers. All I have to do is sit back and write the check and work on the food stuff while she does the flowers.

But good ideas you have!

Posted by: Moon Child 28-Mar-2005, 04:21 AM
Thanks Annabelle, anything to help out!! biggrin.gif I know that by me doing the flowers it saved us a lot of money and it only took me an afternoon to get all of them done!!! I did all the bouquets and boutonnieres for my family and his to save money and they also got to keep them as well.

I really didn't care that the bouquets were fake since they'd last a lot longer. Another thing that I did was I made up a little throw away bouquet since I wanted to give my bouquet to my cousin. Might be an idea if your friend wants to either keep her bouquet or give it away! happy.gif

Hope you don't mind me butting in on the conv.

Fake flowers are great for weddings, because they can be used again!
There are some silk flowers that look incredibly fake. rolleyes.gif but there are others that make you take a second look.

I think the ones that look better are usually more expensive, but worth the money.
Still cheaper than fresh that you have to keep cold, and then they don't last forever.

oh, and you HAVE to have butter mints at the reception. It's a wedding must.
Mmmmm those things are so good.

Shouldn't be thinking about that though, I need to go on a diet as well. sad.gif

Hi Moon Child.....What a good idea to bring this back to the attention of us ladies smile.gif How are you doing?

I imagine Annabelle is at the point of absolute craziness. I do remember my daughter's special day. Sure hope Annabelle can enjoy the day when it arrives....next Saturday, if I remember right.

Next Saturday I plan on being at the Kentucky Scottish Weekend. It will be my first scottish festival and I am so looking forward to it. I hope the weather stays nice for it.

Years ago I belonged to a exercise club. I used to take the kids to school and head over every morning. Believe me, there were all shapes and sizes of women there. At first it was intimidating, but it wasn't long before it was easy and I enjoyed the fellowship. Now, however, I live way out in the country, my kids are both grown and I have an exercise room downstairs. Sometimes my daughters (one by birth and one by marriage) will come over and we excersie together, otherwise I do it alone. wink.gif

Good morning BluegrassLady! I'm doing good just got off of work and have some time off now till I work next Friday night.

I hope you enjoy the festival next weekend!! I wish they had them up here but the closest thing I have is the Highland Games in September. It's my first one that I'm going to and looking forward to it but I wish there was more!! wink.gif

I don't either work out in a gym. I have the Windsor plates set on VHS that I do but I haven't done them in awhile since I don't have a VCR right now...just a DVD player but when I was doing them before I was seeing results!! I should really start doing them again!! tongue.gif

How is everyone? Thanks Moon Child for bringing this back!

Have fun at the festival next weekend, BluegrassLady!

blink.gif So I have been asked to be the Maid of Honor in a wedding this December! And then the wedding I already am in next summer... so within the next 14 months I have to help plan two weddings, buy two Maid of Honor dresses, buy two wedding gifts, throw two showers and bachelorette parties... bangin.gif

It's going to be crazy, but worth it in the end. biggrin.gif

Posted by: BluegrassLady 09-May-2005, 06:50 AM

You certainly will be busy, Em, the next several months. It will be a lot of fun tho. smile.gif It's nice for friends to be part of other friends special events.

Moon Child, what kind of job do you have that you are off until Friday?
Once I have let days go by without exercising, I have a hard time getting back into the swing of it. I am determined to stick with it this time!! I just keep thinking that it's almost time to get the boat into the water, which means swinsuit weather is close. I always say that I exercise just to stay healthy, which is surely part of it, but swimsuit weather is quite a factor in the frequency of excersing!! rolleyes.gif

I have been watching the weather forecast for the games next week. 40% chance of rain! sad.gif But.......that means a 68% chance of nice weather! biggrin.gif I see the cup half full, not have empty. I will take a rain poncho, tho, just in case. tongue.gif

Your welcome ladies for bringing this back. I myself don't usually post much since I have I don't have much to say but there are a few forums I can!! tongue.gif

Emerald you will definitely have your hands full the next coming months but both days you will feel it was all worth it!! Well maybe... laugh.gif

Bluegrass I hope the weather is good for your festival I'm sure you'll enjoy it either way!! As for your question as what I do for work I am a switchboard operator for the Calgary Health Region. I work the grave shift and answer phones for the 4 hospitals we have here in the city. Three are adult hospitals and one is a children's hospital. I work a point 4 grave which is 4 grave shifts in a two week period and then I pick up extra shifts in between and even get called in sometimes to work various shifts if I'm not working that day. It's good work and pays good but presently I'm looking for full-time work since my position is only part-time and it's really hard to get full-time work unless someone leaves. It's very hard though because most of the people there have been working there for quite a lot of years and have no intention of quitting unless the retire!!

I'm actually waiting to hear back about a full-time reception job that I applied to last week. The interview went really good but the boss is really busy so I have to do the waiting game!! One thing I don't like doing is waiting to hear back from an interview!! dry.gif

Posted by: BluegrassLady 09-May-2005, 05:37 PM
Hope you hear some positive news on the job soon, Moon Child. It's a shame that your present job couldn't become fulltime.....it sounds like you enjoy it. smile.gif

Hey ladies! Good to hear from y'all!

Moonchild, the workouts are not. I have been lazy and not been doing them. I managed to lose 25 pounds but now am stuck. so I guess I had better get on the old recumbent bike and start doing my strength training again. rolleyes.gif You were actually seeing results by doing the Windsor Pilates? I always wonder if you really can. I have a Pilates machine and I do sometimes use it on an exercise ball, but I don't think I see results. Good luck on your job. I hate waiting too on a job interview rusults. Keep us posted!

Bluegrass! Your very first Scottish festival? Which one are you going to? I know they are having one in Glasgow, kentucky the first weekend of June. I hear that is a good one. I hope you have good weather. That always happens to me. It hardly ever rains here in Arizona, but let me want to go somewhere special and that's when it decides to rain! sad.gif So aggravating!

CR....Yep, my very first one. I am really looking forward to it. I'm not sure what to expect, so not sure what I need to take. Any suggestions? It's called the Kentucky Scottish Weekend in Carrollton. It is about 129 miles from home and since we want to go both Saturday and Sunday, we will be staying overnight so we can go both days! I am really looking forward to it. It was last year while looking online for info on the one in Warsaw that I was directed to CelticRadio. I wasn't able to make it to that one (my grandson's birthday party was that Saturday) but I did discover this wonderful site, so it was a win situation for me! smile.gif I'm hoping that if I take rain gear I won't need it! tongue.gif

Thanks BluegrassLady and CelticRose! I hope I do hear something back about the job! I do enjoy my job right now but I need full-time work!!

CelticRose...I was seeing results with the Windsor Pilates. At first I wasn't seeing results physically but I was on the scale and that motivated me to do more!! The first three weeks I was doing the tapes I saw a weight loss of about 4 pounds every week!!! I've also been lazy a bit and now haven't been doing them but with summer coming it's sparked me to get into doing them again!! Congrats on loosing the weight you have so far and keep going!! Keep us up to date on how your doing and if you need motivation we are all here to help you through!!! hug.gif

Hey ladies!

Bluegrass! Check the weather forecast first and foremost because I know that it usually seems to rain during those events.........for some odd reason! Take sunscreen and wear a hat whether it be cloudy or sunny. Take your camera cause you will be taking photos! Bring lots of spending money too! Other than that, have a great time and I want to hear all about it. Will there be any musical artists performing that weekend? Check out the clan booths too and take any surnames of your family on both sides. That is always fun. I always try to eat some Scottish food too while I am there.

Moonchild. I am glad you like your job cause either way if you get the other job or not, at least you like where you are at. but understand when you need to go full time.

wow! You actually saw those kinds of results with the Windsor pilates? I thought you would just tone up, but not actually lose any pounds! That is encouraging. Do you work up a sweat with those tapes at all?

Hope you all are doing well!

Thanks everyone, once I get through it I know it will all be worth it smile.gif

Posted by: Moon Child 11-May-2005, 07:19 AM
CelticRose, yes it was nice to see the pounds dropping. You can definitely feel the results in different parts of your body. When I first started I felt the results in my stomach and shoulders and arms. The main part of pilates that they work is your abs!!

Hi galpals...

Well, I've had a change in plans for this weekend. No Scottish festival for me. Last night I got a call from a very dear friend to tell me that her mother had just died. It was very sudden. So, we will be heading up to Michigan in the next day or so, as soon as we hear when the arrangments have been made. We were going up next weekend because that is where my father's ashes are going to be buried and we will be having a memorial service then. We had just a small family service here in Kentucky when he died. Since most of the extended family and friends live in Michigan and Ontario, we asked them to wait for the service in Michigan intead of trying to travel to Kentucky. Because my dad was in a Scottish regiment from Nova Scotia during WW2, we will be having a Canadian military honor guard there with a piper. I know my dad would be glad to have the bagpipes played in his memory.

CR...thanks for your advice, I will keep it in mind when I do get to go to a Scottish weekend. Hope you are feeling better today.

Moon Child...you have got me interested in trying pilates. I am not even sure what it is.
rolleyes.gif

Hope everyone is having a good day. smile.gif

BluegrassLady, sorry to hear about your loss and not being able to go to the festival!! Take it easy on the weekend and have a safe trip!!

If you want to check out more about windsor pilates here's there web site for you!! http://windsorpilates.com. The tapes or even the dvd's are well worth the money!!!

Take care and keep us posted!!! hug.gif

Posted by: Irish Stepper 11-May-2005, 02:17 PM
Moon Child...do you have the whole Windsor Pilates program? Or just certain tapes? I wouldn't need the aerobic part, because I can usually dance instead. Although right now I can't because I think I have a stress fracture in my foot. I go for a bone scan tomorrow to find out. But, it looks like a lot of the exercises can be done without standing. I need to do something, because right now I'm just sitting around...getting bored...eating... and gaining weight. sad.gif Definitely not a good idea since we're in competition season for Irish Dance. unsure.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 12-May-2005, 12:40 AM
Oh Bluegrass! I am so sorry for the loss of your friend's mother. Losing parents are very difficult and I am sure she will appreciate you being there for her. Have a safe trip and maybe you can drive up to Glasgow, Kentucky for that Scottish festival, June 2-6. That is a wonderful one, I hear. Would that be far from you?

Moonchild! I will definitely have to check out the Windsor Pilates. I have the Pilates tapes by Anna Caban and I have seen no results. I even have a reformer machine and tapes to go with that and saw no results. But I probably didn't do it long enough and I have since put the reformer away as it takes up a lot of room. However, it really did help my back pain a lot as like you say, it works your core. My chiropractor strongly recommended that I do Pilates. So you are encouraging me to get back into it.

Irish Stepper I am sorry to hear about your foot. I hope it isn't a fracture. I would think the dancing would keep you skinny. I tried to learn Irish dancing but it was too much bouncing around for my back.

How is everyone else doing otherwise? I am feeling better today with the back pain, but then there is always that menopause I am going through and the mood swings and irritability and temperment that blows up once and awhile at the slightest things where people wonder and even ask "what the heck is wrong with you?" rolleyes.gif angel_not.gif

Irish Stepper, the set that I have is the three step program that they first came out with. It has the step-by-step basics, the 20 minute workout and the accelerated body sculpting. When I was doing them before I was only doing the basics and the 20 minute workout. I started doing the basics just to get use to doing the exercises and the were really helping. A couple of times I even did the basics and then the 20 minute workout and boy did I feel it after!!! The box set that I have also comes with the Win in 10 program which is suppose to help your diet and it actually looks pretty good. It's all healthy food that mostly has you eating a lot of vegetables but it has a lot of meats and other foods that we eat now a days. It's a 10 day diet meal planned out for you. It even has portions for males as well and has your three meals a day, your three snacks and how to prepare them. The set also has a workout journal that you can keep track of your results and the Winsor Dozen which is a 12 step program you can do if you don't have time to watch the tapes as well.

One thing I like about the tapes is that they have modified moves for the different exercises in case you have neck or back problems. CelticRose...that might be good for you!! I also have lower back problems and it's help my back by doing the modified moves!! In the basics tape Mari Windsor talks about not extending yourself too much and only stretch to the point you can handle!! So to me it's definitely worth the money!!! My cousin has even told me that she's tried different pilates and they haven't worked for her either so I told her to try this set!

Posted by: Irish Stepper 12-May-2005, 05:15 PM
Celtic Rose, Irish Dancing will keep you skinny if you practice at it more than once a week. My 2nd year into it I was starting to get shin splints because I had gained 15 pounds. I had to lose them to lose the shin splints. I hadn't gotten competitive at it and was only doing that once a week practice. I can see where all that bouncing can be bad for your back! Heck it's bad for everything! laugh.gif

Moon Child, I might look into that Pilates program. I'd really like to do some toning. I was thinking of joining "Curves" but I heard that the sessions end up being more like BS sessions...rather than a serious work out.

Well, I had my bone scan today. Nothing like getting injected with Radioactive stuff to make you glow for the machine. laugh.gif It didn't show any injuries to my foot. So, I guess that makes it some kind of muscle injury. Some doctors say muscle injuries can be worse than fractures. My foot seems to be feeling a bit better, since I'm wearing a surgical shoe, but far from being well enough to dance on. unsure.gif I guess I just have to give it time, but it drives me nuts to not be able to dance. rolleyes.gif Hey, at least it wasn't a total waste of time today...the medical tech guy was a cutie! angel_not.gif wink.gif

Posted by: Moon Child 12-May-2005, 07:34 PM
Well take it easy Irish Stepper before you know it your foot will be healed and you'll be up dancing!!! But in the mean time try and not drive yourself too crazy!! wacko.gif LOL Keep us posted on your foot!!!

I also haven't hear anything about Curves...but the pilates it worth checking out for toning!!

Posted by: CelticRose 13-May-2005, 06:01 PM
Irish Stepper. glad you don't have a bone fracture, but muscles can be just as painful. Take care! I know about Curves and I have heard the same thing. Plus, I have not seen that much results from the women I know who participate in it. They must work their mouths more so in there. laugh.gif

Moonchild! I am going to look into the Windsor Pilates, seriously. I looked over the site and just trying to decide which one to get. I would like the fat burning one. But wonder if I am starting off too quick with that one. Thanks for going into the details of the overall program. I have ordered a lot of exercise videos from Collagevideo. I really like them.

Hope everyone is doing well and happy weekend!

Posted by: Moon Child 14-May-2005, 12:23 AM
CelticRose, the fat burning program Winsor Pilates has looks pretty good. From what I can tell from the web site it has the basics video. It will teach the different moves step by step until you feel more comfortable to move onto the more advanced ones. I really want to buy the set as well but I have to get going with the set I have first!! wink.gif Today I saw an infomercial on her fat burning system and noticed that they have other videos for specific areas like abs and buns, etc. so you don't get bored of just one system!! Let us know how it goes!!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Well ladies, I found out about that job yesterday that I have been waiting for. I didn't get it! I found out from my boyfriend that an older lady who was retired got the position and had to agree to stay for 5 yrs. I wasn't upset that I didn't get it but by the fact that the company didn't even have the balls to call me themselves and tell me!! My boyfriend was the one who ended up telling me not them!!! furious.gif I thought this to be very unprofessional on their part and they could have called!!

Part of the reason why I think I didn't get it was because I had mentioned that I wanted a career and also one day wanted to start a family. I know that the human resource lady had mentioned to the staff there that she was getting sick and tired of hiring someone every year. That is why I think they made this lady promise to stay for so long!

So anyways I look at it like this, it just wasn't meant to be and there is a better position out there waiting for me to find!! So it's back to looking again... dry.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 17-May-2005, 06:02 PM
Moonchild! I am very sorry you didn't get the job you wanted. I know that is very disappointing, but something better will come up for you. It always does. Most companies don't call their interviewees and tell them whether they got the job or not. It is getting worse and worse out there with employers and how they treat their employees, let along prospective ones........sad to say. That is why we own our own company! We try to be very good to our employees so they will stay and they have done just that. I wish you the best in your job search. Keep us posted.

wonder how Bluegrass is doing on her trip and Irish Stepper with her foot?

All is well here. I never did get those Pilates tapes. I am going to try this one Pilates tape I have that you use on a ball as that is the one my chiropractor recommended. I will let you know how that goes.

What else is going on with you?

Posted by: Moon Child 18-May-2005, 04:43 PM
CelticRose, I just can't believe how it's getting out with potential companies. It seems as time goes on that bigger companies just don't care about their employees any more which in turn employees are starting not to care about their job!! I know that there is a lot of that at my work. People are there just for the money and not the job but the employers are almost making it that way!! If employers would care more about their employees they would find that the employees in return would care more as well...but that's only my opinion!! sleep.gif

I know that previous jobs I have been at I enjoyed the job just because of the staff and my immediate manager. It was the main reason why I stayed with the company as long as I did until I couldn't handle it anymore. I just want to find a company that actually cares about their employees but will have a hard time finding it with all the big corporations out there!!! This is also why I want to start my own business one day!

I as well am wondering how Bluegrass and Irish Stepper are doing!! I bet Irish Stepper is about to go wacko.gif with not being able to dance! LOL but I hope she's resting her foot!

Other than that not much is going on just going to send out some more resumes today. How are you doing with the pilates???

How are the rest of the ladies doing??? They've been pretty quiet or maybe busy?!? unsure.gif

Posted by: Irish Stepper 18-May-2005, 05:48 PM
Hey ladies! I know I've been scarce lately. Sometimes I just have to take a break from the computer! biggrin.gif

Moon Child, that sucks about your job interview. But from a company's perspective, they're trying to cover their butts as well. Something to keep in mind though...it's against the law for them to ask you if you're single/married/divorced, or to even ask about plans for a future family. Anything that's not job related is none of their business and you shouldn't volunteer the information in an interview. They trick you into thinking it's just a nice little "get to know you" conversation, but they DO use it against you. Problem is you can't prove it. HR's job is strictly to cover the company's butt from hiring non-productive employees, and preventing any lawsuits in the process. They are NOT about helping you out...especially when looking for the best person to hire. Any job interview you go to, let them believe that you're looking at is as LONG term and be very vague in your answers if they actually DO ask about personal things. Then mention that you weren't aware that those topics were to be discussed in an interview. wink.gif

Celtic Rose, I haven't gotten those tapes either. I don't have much motivation to do anything. I think I've just decided to wait until my foot gets better then dance my big butt back off again! laugh.gif

The doctor finally decided that it's just a bad sprain of the ligaments on the 4th toe. He actually offered to give me some "stong" pain killers so that I could dance at the May 29th competition. I said, "But that still means the area is injured and that I'd make it worse. I'm sorry...I'm not that dedicated to dance that I need to ignore my body's indications that it needs healing time." I'm starting to wonder where this guy got his license! unsure.gif Anyway, he said that I need to stay in the surgical shoe for another 2 weeks, then come back to follow up again.

I don't even take Advil for when I have pain, because as soon as it feels better, I know I'm going to push it and start dancing. So I'd rather know for sure that when the pain stops, then it's finally healed. I'd rather listen to my body, then go tampering with it... biggrin.gif I figure it knows what's best! king.gif

Posted by: Moon Child 18-May-2005, 06:01 PM
That's interesting you told me that Irish Stepper because the job interview I went on before this last one the guy who was interviewing me wanted to know if I was single/married and even told me that he likes to know the type of people he's interviewing and going to potently hire!! I had no idea that they they can't ask questions like that!!! Thanks for the tip though I will definitely keep it in mind for my next interview!! hug.gif

It's good to hear that you finally know what's going on with your foot!! I know that a lot of doctors now a days really try to push pills on people to make them feel better about the situation!!! I am the same with taking pills though I'd rather suffer through the pain until I can't handle it anymore but the only thing I will take is Advil when I really need it!!

Posted by: Irish Stepper 18-May-2005, 10:06 PM
Moon Child, I tried to PM this to you, but it wouldn't let me because of the internet address I guess. Oh well, it'll be useful to everyone. Some of the articles are redundant, but they might give you different ways of approaching the questions being asked. Actually, better ways of side-stepping it. cool.gif

Thank you Irish Stepper for those articles you posted!! hug.gif They were very informative and I learnt a lot from them. Now I can better be prepared when I go to my interviews. It was an interesting read since I never knew that they could not ask you personal questions like that before. I now know that the reason why I didn't get the positions of the two interviews I went on was due to the personal questions they asked and my responses to them.

Posted by: Irish Stepper 19-May-2005, 05:29 PM
Well, good luck on the next ones you go to! hug.gif
Like the articles said, most of the time the interviewer isn't even aware that they're crossing the line. But using that kind of information is basically discriminating against you for that job because you want to have a family soon. They don't want to have to pay you for your 6 weeks of time off that you'd need. unsure.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 19-May-2005, 05:48 PM
Very informative information ladies about the job interviews. I had always heard too that companies were not allowed to ask personal questions either. I am going to copy those links Irish Stepper to give to my hubby so he knows the dos and don'ts of interviewing employees. But I still agree with Moonchild that employers don't care about the employee anymore and that is why their employees are no longer productive or stick around! Then if you stick around too long for retirement, they have a way of getting rid of you before then. It is plain awful out there!

Well, I have been lazy about my exericse. rolleyes.gif However, after a month of losing no weight, I finally lost another pound! yay! I was really getting worried cause I was so afraid that I had hit a plateau and wasn't going to be able to lose anymore. but it is funny. Some days I will put back on 1 or 2 pounds, only to lose them in the next day or two. I can't figure that one out. I guess that is why they tell you to stay off the scale, eh?

Irish Stepper, take care of that foot of yours. Sometimes 10 days of Advil will really actually help the inflammation, but you probably already know that.

Well, I thought Bluegrass would be back by now, but maybe she decided to stay on her trip longer. Hope she is ok.

You gals take care!

Posted by: Moon Child 20-May-2005, 09:10 AM
CelticRose, don't give up on your exercises if you need a push of motivation just remember were here for you!! Before you know it you'll be all buff!! LOL flex.gif I know it's hard once when you get to that plateau in not being able to loose weigh since you feel like all your doing isn't helping at all but just keep at it!!

I wonder how Bluegrass is doing as well, I hope she's alright and will be back soon!

How are the other ladies doing??? They've been pretty quiet... unsure.gif

Well ladies have a great weekend!! bye1.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 20-May-2005, 05:39 PM
Hey Moonchild! Hope you have had a good day.

As far as weight goes. What I can't figure out is these people who have had their stomach's stapled and lose 100's of pounds only because they're eating much smaller portions! I am probably eating as little as they are and I should have lost the amount I want by now. Yeah, I know. Lazy me needs to exercise. angel_not.gif

Y'all have a good weekend!

Posted by: Irish Stepper 20-May-2005, 10:02 PM
Celtic Rose, I think that having their stomach stapled also makes the food process through the body faster, and as a result, it doesn't get absorbed. That's why they have to take all these fast absorbing vitamin supplements (sp?) so that their bodies don't deteriorate as well. Pretty radical stuff though. unsure.gif

Oh really, Irish Stepper! I did not know that. yeah, it is a pretty radical step isn't it? I know a whole family who had that done. I notice that Carnie Wilson is starting to pick up the weight again after she had the procedure done. Thankfully, I only have about 12-15 more pounds to go before I get to the weight I would feel confortable with. I can't imagine having to lose 100s of pounds.

How is your foot, btw?

Posted by: Irish Stepper 21-May-2005, 11:30 PM
Still the same. I'm still wearing a post-op shoe. I have to wear that at least until my next check up on May 31st. It feels a lot better than that 1st day of course. However, I haven't felt much improvement over the past week. I guess it's just going to take time. I just don't like it taking SO MUCH time! rolleyes.gif

Posted by: Moon Child 21-May-2005, 11:47 PM
Are you loosing your mind yet with the waiting IrishStepper?? wacko.gif LOL

I know with my boyfriend when he injured his foot back in December it took about 2 months to really heal. He was even doing physio every two days for about a month. It even still hurts him every so often but it took a long time and he was so impatient he started walking on it without crutches before he was suppose. Men... rolleyes.gif

Poor you, Irish Stepper! I feel for you. A couple years ago I fell stupidly off a curb on the street and sprained my ankle so bad I busted an artery! But here is where I get more stupid, I never went to the doctor. It swelled up real bad and we left for vacation a few days later. It bled all through my skin and hurt like heck for weeks. I kept treating it myself and finally months later I went to the doctor and had it x-rayed. That's when I found out I had busted the artery. It took me a good year before I could properly walk on that foot again. The sad thing is that I was an avid exerciser before that happened and ever since then, I just kind of lost interest in it. sad.gif

Take care. I am sure you must be going nuts.

Hi Moonchild! Hope you are doing well.

Hope you are on the mend. Hi...Rose and MoonChild. Where is everyone else? Hope to chat with you all soon!! biggrin.gif

Hey ladies!

BGL! It is so good to see you back. Bet you are tired from your trip.

Moonchild, I know the feeling about stress with the vehicle. Mine broke down last week too and I had to get it fixed. Cost me a whopping $298.00! But it has been a good truck, so I can't complain. And it does have 130,000 miles on it so it is time for things to be replaced now.

Hope you both and others have a great holiday weekend! All is well here.

Hello, it's been a while since I posted here.

And since we are here in the Ladies Only Forum I thought I bring up the subject of another hunk actor.

Since I saw the Phantom of the Opera movie - I am a big fan of Gerard Butler - a hunk of a Scotsman.

Anyone agrees here with me.

And just to make it even more interesting I will post a pic of him in a kilt.

Now let's see what you ladies have to say about this hunk!!!

Hello ladies!! Just wanted to stop in and say hi since I haven't been on in a couple of days!! I've been busy trying to get over this cold I have and also mending a broken heart!! My boyfriend and I just broke up yesterday so it's been hard. crybaby.gif I was really looking forward to finally starting our family and buying a house within a couple of months together but once again my heart gets broken again!! cry.gif I don't even know why I took him back again a couple of months ago but I guess I was hopeful that he was finally ready for what I wanted!! So anyways I told my cousin "I'm done with my ex's" and the next guy I date is going to be somebody new! My mom has now been on the outlook trying to find me a man and I told her I'm not ready for that yet it's just too soon!! I was with my ex for over 4 1/2 yrs and you can't get over that so quickly!!

On the other hand of all this happening my cousin and I have decided to go on a trip down east!! I told her last night when she came over that I need a vacation and want to go somewhere close to get away!!! So were either going to PEI (Prince Edward Island) or Nova Scotia. We haven't decided yet but want to go to the Highland Games down there and are in the works of figuring everything out!! We'll either be going in July or August and I can't wait. I now have something to at least look towards in my life right now!!!

BluegrassLady, it's nice to see you and hope your trip went well!! We all missed ya! hug.gif

Irish Stepper, how did you appointment go yesterday with your foot???

Monarchs Own, VERY NICE pic!!! dribble.gif toot.gif I'll have to show that to my cousin since she has a huge thing for guys in kilts!!! tongue.gif

Celtic Rose, how's the work outs going???

Hope everyone's doing well otherwise!! Talk to you all soon and take care!!

MoonChild....I am so sorry about your heartache. It's hard when that special someone does not want what you want. My daughter went through the same thing. While in high school she thought she had met her special someone. They went together for a year and had plans to be married right after graduation. The weekend she was crowned home coming queen she got pregnant. He broke it off with her when she was 6 months pregnant. It was an on again off again relationship for almost 2 years until she found someone else. Then he decided that he did want to get married, so 5 weeks later they became man and wife. They were divorced within 15 months. It seemed that he didn't want her but didn't want her to have anyone else. Once they were divorced, he decided he had made a mistake and wanted her back. Thank goodness she came to her senses and said "no more!". She had finally gotten him out of her heart. A few months later she met a fine young man and they just celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary. They have two sons besides her firstborn, a daughter. She will be 11 next month and although her birth father is still in the picture, she considers her stepdad her "daddy" smile.gif
I guess what I am trying to say to you, MoonChild, is your true someone special is out there waiting for you. So, in the meantime, take some time out and enjoy yourself. Life is an adventure. Embrace it!!

Moon Child so sorry to hear - but you are right to not get attached for a while. When the right one comes along everything will work out.

BGL - I know how it is when the real father is still in the picture but the child considers the stepfather the real Daddy. It's the same with my son. He loves his stepfather more than his real one. And the only thing I can say is that it's my exhusbands own fault. He doesn't keep the contact going.

I hope you are all doing fine here.

Thank you BluegrassLady and Monarchs Own! hug.gif I know that I will one day I will find the right one. Somethimes you have to be with the wrong ones to find the right one.

It's just that it's hard to get over my ex since we've been together for over 4 1/2 yrs and that's the longest realtionship I've been in. My ex-husband and I were only together for about 4 yrs. Which makes me kind of scared to get into another relationship but I need to take a chance and put myself out there again it just won't be anytime soon!! That's also why I'm so happy that my cousin and I are planning this trip since it will do me a world of good to get away and get out of the city even for a short time. Who knows what awaits me out east but I can't wait!!! Tomorrow night were going out for supper to discuss our plans futher so I'll let you guys know from there!!!

Thanks again for the support it's nice to know I have people who care!!! cry.gif

Hey Ladies! sorry it has been so long, but I have had a crazy week!

Monarch! So glad to see you in here with us! And I am a BIG fan of Gerald Butler. I snitched that pic of him in the kilt! Hee hee. Did you ever see him in the Atila or something like that? I haven't but seen photos of him and he looks GOOD! Thanks for the eye candy!

Moonchild! I am so very sorry to hear about your heartache. I could not say anything better than what Monarch and BGL has already said to you. You seem like a very strong person and so I would say hold onto that strength and hope for better. There is always hope. Are you by chance considering going to the Fergus Highland Games?! Cause if you are, Diana Gabaldon will be there doing a book signing and she is having dinner with her fans, but you have to sign up for the dinner! ! Oh, you must go! It is in August sometime. I believe it is posted in Keltic's forum where festivals and gatherings are posted. If you can't find it, I will get the dates and place for you, ok?

I am not exercising, but I managed to lose 2 more pounds. That makes 29 total. I am so happy and my doctor was thrilled when he saw me last week. However, it will all be ruined when I leave for vacation on Sunday. We are going to Oregon for a week. Can't wait!

BGL, I hope you are doing well and will see Clann An Drumma and 7 Nations at the Glasgow games tomorrow. Anxious to hear all about it.

All is well here, but it has been really crazy with me lately. My van broke down AGAIN! They think it is an electrical problem but they're still working on it.

Well hope Irish Stepper's foot is better. Hope you all will have a good week. Talk to you later.

I've never noticed this thread before. What a good idea.

I've got my heartache too, well, actually, it's a long ongoing story, and all I can say is that there are no easy recipes.

The right one? Most definitely is he out there. Two problems are in our way: the first: define the right one! What means that to you? The second chances to meet the perfect soulmate are much slimmer than you think. Why? Well, you are unique. How often have you met a true soulmate (no matter your gender)? I think its a chance of one in a million, and how many people do you meet and how many people you met had a chance to get to know you?

It is a dilemma.

Ha, plus the fact that being a mom in search of the right one doesn't make it easier at all.

*big sigh*

Posted by: Moon Child 04-Jun-2005, 07:51 AM
Welcome Maddie!! hug.gif I totally agree with ya but I just have to have hope that my not so perfect man is out there waiting for me!! My only problem is dating people who already have children but then don't want anymore!!! But all the guys around my age are either bachelors who don't want to commit or guys who've been married or have children already!!!

CelticRose, I'm soooo happy for you on loosing the weight you have!! Great job!!! toot.gif Have fun on you vacation and let us know how it was and I want to see photo.gif since I've never been to Oregon before!!

I won't be able to make it to Fergus Highland Games since I need to save up for the trip to Prince Edward Island (PEI) and the Fergus games are in Ontario. I wish I could though!! wink.gif We were just planning our trip last night over dinner and we finally have a better idea of where we want to go. I was also checking out the different websites for renting a car last night and I couldn't believe that Travelocity was cheaper to rent from than renting from the car rental places themselves!!! I've been doing ok though, this trip has really put my mind on something else for now which has been nice!!

Hope everyone is doing well though and having a good weekend!!

Posted by: CelticRose 04-Jun-2005, 12:48 PM
Hey Maddie! Glad you joined us! How are you? Sorry for your heartache story too. I would imagine that it makes it all the more difficult in finding a relationship when there are children involved. But it does happen and I know of many happy mixed families.

Moonchild, I was so hoping you were going to the Fergus games. Boo hoo. Oh well, I bet you will have a great time on PEI. I hear it is soooooo beautiful there. Take pictures so we can see too. I have never been to Canada and always wanted to visit. Oh! And more good news! I got on the scale this morning and I lost another pound! Yippee! I hit my 30 pound mark. That was my losing goal for this trip to see family. biggrin.gif I just hope I don't put 5 lbs of it back on while I am on vacation. sad.gif

You all take care of yourselves and your hearts!

Hugs!

CR you are most welcome. Gerard is a hunk of a Scotsman. So far I have seen Dracula 2000 (a vampire with a scottish accent - yum), Timeline (a professor who travels back in time) and Phantom of the Opera (well what a hunky Phantom) with him. I got me Reign of Fire but had not the chance to watch it yet and I ordered Attila. Should be coming in the mail any day now. Can't wait.

So far I only have seen Attila pictures and have to say I am curios how the movie is. I let you know how the movie is. Had to order it since they didn't sell it here in Fayetteville at all. But now it's on the way.

The next movie I am waiting for with Gerard is Dear Frankie. July 5th should be the date. I am waiting anxiously.

Moon Child, I think I have a nice pic of him in a kilt besides the one I posted a while back.

If it's there to download you can look at it, otherwise I have to resize it first.

Finally got the movie Attila today. It was such a great movie. Gerard Butler is a great Attila. He even did most of the riding himself. The showed a lot in the Special Features about that. It was great. Only can recommand the movie.

A lot of great actors in that one.

Hi MoonChild....Wow, sounds like you've really got a great trip planned. I hope you have a wonderful time. One of these days, I would love to get see PEI. One of my dream trips is to take a road trip in the camper and go along the eastern coast of Canada and the U S. My parents lived in Nova Scotia when they were first married and I would love to see it. Mmmm....maybe we'll make it this fall or next. smile.gif

Hi Monarch...good to see you. How have you been?

Seems a bit quiet here lately, doesn't it? Everyone must be busy doing their own thing. Would be good to hear from Annabelle....wonder how she is doing. Haven't seen her for awhile. Hope she is alright. There are others that haven't posted for awhile too. sad.gif

Bluegrass, after my tirp I will make sure to post some pics on here for you!!! We'll be taking LOTS of pictures!!! Our original plan was to go to Nova Scotia but that will have to be next time!!! I'm so excited since I have never been that far east before!! The furthest I've been is Manitoba when I lived their years ago. wink.gif

I've also been wondering how Annebelle's doing!!! I wonder if she done with both weddings yet!! unsure.gif

Hope this posting finds all well.

I've been quiet because I'm on a business trip which I could extend to a full vacation. Kids are on their way to meet me in one of Punta Cana's resorts.

Yes! Dominican Republic, viva dominicana... hehe. Not very Celtic but fun nonetheless. I'm on a dial up and count it as good luck because "onlinabilty" is a rare to find.

Have fun and don't let the love and heartache bugs bother you!

Here's a topic a lot of you ladies deal with, I'm sure:

How do you maintain time for yourself yet give to your family and/or job what they need? Sometimes I find it so hard to find a balance, I end up giving so much time and attention to everyone else that I end up empty on the energy-o-meter...

Good topic Siobhan Blues!!

With myself just recenty being single I have finally found more time for myself and my family. With my work it's pretty easy since I only work a 4 day rotation every two weeks and also pick up extra shifts here and there when I'm not working. But working the grave shift at work is hard as well.

Since I've become recently single it has given me some time off for myself and I'm really starting to enjoy it!! No more worrying about the other person and I find myself spending more time with my family. My cousin and are in the midst of planning our trip out east in September and have been spending more time together since we are both single. I don't have any children yet but hope one day in the future to get married and start my family.

Where is Irish Stepper? Haven't seen her in awhile. I hope she is ok.

Wanted to let you all know that I started a new thread in Discussion for us to post our vacation/holiday pics. I posted my Oregon pics in there. Hope to see others posting their travels too.

Hope everyone is healthy and happy.

I wish I knew the answer to that question, SB. I never worked full time after the kids were born, so that was one isure I didn't face. But looking back, it seems as if I had more time to myself then than now. When my kids were is school, my husband at work and my folks traveling fulltime, I had the day to myself and I was able to make up my own schedule.
My husband retired in 1994, my kids married in 1994 and 1995. Both kids moved back on the farm in 2000 and 2001 with their families, my folks have lived on the farm part time since 1992 (when they spent the winters in Florida) but they have lived here full time the last couple of years. With all the family living here on the farm together (each in their own homes), it seems as if I am always surrounded by family, from little ones to older ones. Although I really wouldn't have it any other way, it does seem as if there is always one or another that needs me for something. Seems like I am always fluctuating between the "daughter' "wife""mother" or "gramma".
I guess we just do the best we can and try not to be too hard on ourselves. Life changes day by day.....good times and hard times. smile.gif

CR....I will be checking out your vacation pics in the new forum. Good idea!!!

Hi Celtic Rose, it's alright about the Fergus Festival. We all do it at some time!! tongue.gif Thanks for the comment on my pic! My mom took it with the web cam since I haven't had time to go in and get professional pics taken!!

I've been doing good. Work is going to be keeping me busy for the next three weeks with one of the ladies at work going on holidays and I've picked up some extra shifts. Other than that just keep on slugging along with the plans to PEI and actually starting to enjoy being single!!! It's given me more time to myself!!!

Hope everyone else is doing good.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone! Hope you all are doing well. I have had a hard time catching up on the forums in here. I can't imagine how you all with kids do it and have any time to yourself at all! I have had a crazy month with everything seeming to happen, but doing well.

Moonchild, you will appreciate this. LOL I told you that I had gained 7 lbs over my vacation and my doctor was NOT happy. Well this week I lost 6 of those 7 lbs, so I am a happy camper! Also, ever get caught up in the infomercials? Well I did this week. rolleyes.gif There was this exercise program by Gunnar Peterson who works with the celebrities. It involves the exercises on a ball which is supposed to be good on the core muscles and back. It includes using some weights too. It looked so good to me that I ordered it! Now I am starting physical therapy on my back on Monday and I will have to find out for sure if I can indeed use this work out. Pretty stupid of me to have bought the exercise program before going to PT, eh? Oh, but I thought for sure it would be good. Time will tell and you have 30 days to return it if you don't like it. Oh well.

Hope you all are doing well.

Posted by: Moon Child 19-Jun-2005, 12:26 AM
Celtic Rose, that's awesome to hear that you've lost the weight again!! I knew you would!! When you get your new exercise program and try it out let me know it is since I also have bad back problems. Some days I can't even do housework without my back flairing up and at times I'm not evening bending over that much!!

I know what you mean about getting caught up in informericals!! I do sometimes too!! tongue.gif Here in a couple of the malls they actually have a store that has stuff from informericals that you can buy and most times I try to walk past it but the temptation over takes me some times!! laugh.gif

Hope ever one is doing well otherwise!!!

Posted by: CelticRose 19-Jun-2005, 01:49 AM
Moonchild! That is why I do a little housework each morning. If I was to clean the whole house in one day, I would be flat on my back, locked up in no time. Take care of yourself and don't overdo. I will certainly let you know about my new exercise program. I forget the name of it right now but will let you know. Hope your having a good weekend!

Posted by: BluegrassLady 20-Jun-2005, 05:56 AM
Hi gal pals, tongue.gif

Let us know what your PT says about the new exercise program, CR. So many of us have some back pain, it would be nice to find a routine that helps us get in shape without hurting ourselves. After my last bout with the back pain, the doctor said I had over exercised!!! sad.gif Now he says to just walk for exercise.
BTW...I bought some exercise equipment from an infomercial. Hope you use yours more than I used mine.

SB....I know where you are coming from. Even tho I too enjoy a wonderful marriage and have a great family, I don't have much "me" time. I have been trying to read "Outlander" for over a week and am only on page 28!!! sad.gif

Moonchild.....I stay away from those stores. Everything on TV looks interesting, but the shipping/handling charges usually keep me fr om buying. However, the stores can be so tempting!! wink.gif

Have a great day, ladies!!!
biggrin.gif

Posted by: Moon Child 20-Jun-2005, 09:39 AM
Bluegrass, I know what you mean about the stores being tempting that's why I try to stay away from them!! laugh.gif But the last time I was in a store like that was when I bought my Windsor Pilates tapes so I saved some money that way!!!

Gal Pals! BGL! That is so funny you should call us that. My church is starting a ministry this summer called "Gal Pals" and it is for 9 and 10 year olds. I am to be involved in it with a few things they are doing.

Went to PT this morning and mostly it was for assessment. He thinks the arthritis has taken on some changes so it is the e-stim heat treatment..........which feels so good and he is starting me on an exercise to do 4 x a day! ohmy.gif Anyway, I will be going for 3 x a week for 4-5 weeks. That's all my insurance will pay. I asked him about my exercise program that I bought via infomercial and he said, well he thought it sounded good, but that we will work on exercises for me and get to that as we go on.

Hope your back is feeling better, BGL!

Hello to Moonchild, SB and everyone else! smile.gif

Posted by: Moon Child 21-Jun-2005, 10:31 AM
CelticRose, it's good to hear that you'll be going to physio 3 x a week. It will help you a lot!! Plus just think of the exercising now that you'll be doing you'll loose even more weight!! keep us update on how things are going!!! I know when I had physio years ago for my back it felt really good. He had me bending like I was a pretzel but I always felt better after I left!!! biggrin.gif

BGL, hope your taking care of your bad as well and taking it easy on the exercising!!!

I wonder how Irish Stepper is doing with her foot and if she's back dancing again?? unsure.gif

Hi SB and everyone else, hope all you ladies are taking it easy too!!!

Posted by: CelticRose 21-Jun-2005, 11:24 PM
hey Moonchild! Hope you are doing well. What's new with you?

I have been wondering about Irish Stepper and where she has been.

I have to do these exercises 4x a day! They're mostly stretching right now.

Been keeping up with my favorite actor, Jason Patric. He is in SC filming a movie right now and I have been chatting with some of the extras that have been on the film set. I heard his new girlfriend isn't that great looking or thin at all. Not to be catty, but that means I can date him instead! laugh.gif don't think hubby would like the idea though. unsure.gif

Speaking of favorite actors, I spotted one of my faves in the ads for the new Batman movie: Liam Neeson! I haven't kept up with movie news lately and had no idea he was in the film, but boy howdy NOW I have some incentive to dish out that $8 to see it!

I think we all have our favorites that we wish we could be with!! tongue.gif

Gerard is an excellent actor! First time I ever saw him he was an extremely sexy Dracula. Didn't like the end of that movie, the "plot twist" sucked, but as long as I was looking at him I was happy!!
These two are my current favorites.

My husband surprised me last night by suggesting dinner and a movie, after he got home from work! Who am I to dash his hopes so I said "Sure!"
We went to see the new Batman movie and wow, is it ever a change of pace from the other Batman films! This one is not as cartoony, as 'campy' as the others were. Christian Bale is a good Batman (he looks like a young Tim Matheson from 'Animal Hous' or '1941', if any of you remember that movie) and Liam Neeson is... well, Liam Neeson! rolleyes.gif I tried not to carry on too much. But I swear I could listen to him read the telephone directory, he's got the most amazing voice...

ANYway, the movie is a more realistic tale of how Batman gets his gadgets & that tool belt, especially. The story is slow at the beginning but once it gets going its really good. I'd recommend it!

BTW...I agree with you about Liam Neeson. I just love to listen to a man with a sexy voice. Can go a long way from taking a man from average to WOW yes.gif

Moonchild...my back seems to be on the mend, thanks for asking. Still not exercising tho. Haven't even started walking. sad.gif

CR...hope the PT helps your back. A good idea that you asked the therapist about the new informercial exercises. Wouldn't do to overdo.

Hello Ladies,

haven't been around for a few days. So much going on.

Moon Child - Gerard Butler played in Sin City? Gee I need to check on that!
Gerard Butlers new movie - Dear Frankie is coming out on July 5th on DVD. Can't wait to get it.

I hope everyone is doing great.

Here in "Camouflage City" everything is going okay. Husband is getting sick and tired of Iraq - too much sand for his taste. We waiting here for his return for 2 weeks leave in August. But then again - the Army likes to change things around. We are also still waiting on the big bonus my husband is supposed to get. It takes to darn long.

Hey girls ,maybe some of you will laugh about this.In 2005 we try to be more equal to men but some are just too blind or too ....I have ask my father a few month ago to show me how to change a tire in case I have a flat and not wait an hour until I receive help.He told me I don't need to know it because it will not happend. You know my idea was to know only strict min about my car , how to change a tire , windshield washer , changing the oil.Do you think my father will show me that?I could never do anything. You don't need to know this and after that men said women are never interest by this kind of thing ,see what happend when we show some interest.

This is when you take a Saturday afternoon, find your owners manual and teach yourself how to do all of those things. It's very satisfying to learn how on your own. My step-father passed away a few years ago and my mother has had to learn how to take care of a lot of things on her own since then. It's amazing what you can do when you have to and when you put your mind to it. cool.gif

Speaking of favorite actors, I spotted one of my faves in the ads for the new Batman movie: Liam Neeson!  I haven't kept up with movie news lately and had no idea he was in the film, but boy howdy NOW I have some incentive to dish out that $8 to see it!
He's just gorgeous... gorgeous, tall and Irish as well! What more could you ask for?!?

SB

SB, maybe you should see Liam in Kinsey! angel_not.gif

maggiemahone1

But that HAIR-do he has in that film, sticking straight up like that! laugh.gif laugh.gif
What a hoot. I don't think I'll see that movie just because of the subject matter, too... I am a bit familiar with Kinsey...

Hi,
Listen - forgive me for not knowing, but where are you? Do you live on a base?

A guy at our church just returned from what is his last tour in Iraq - we are so relieved he's back stateside now for good. He got tired of all that sand too! biggrin.gif

Hey ladies! Good to see y'all! Life has been very busy with me so sorry I am so behind. PT is going ok. They are really working me over and such but it really hurts. Have a family illness going on right now.

Hello to Aili. I don't think we have met! Nice to have you here and some other folks I have not seen in here before.

Monarch, I really hope your hubby comes home soon. I seen a lot of these guys at the airport a few weeks ago and on the road and made sure I spoke to everyone of them. They're all so young. sad.gif

All you ladies have great taste in men! I love them all you have mentioned, but my Jason Patric is MORE special! tongue.gif I have been talking to some extras who have been working on his current film. They all said what a really nice guy he is too and SO focused on his work.

Anybody into skin care? I am trying this new microdermobrasion kit by L'Oreal. It is exfoliate cream and then there is a moisturizing cream with SPF in it. You use it about twice a week and your skin just glows!

BGL.. I hope your back feels much better soon. Poor you. Maybe you need some PT too.

Take care y'all. Hubby is due home now.

Hello my fellow galpals,

Monarch, sorry I made a mistake it's not Gerard Butler in Sin City, it's Clive Owen!! bangin.gif Their both so gorgeous I got them mixed up!!! tongue.gif I haven't heard of Gerard's new movie coming out but I will be definitely checking it out for sure!!

SB, I can't wait to see the new Batman movie. My cousin loves Liam neeson. So we'll be going soon!! He is though a very good looking man and I love his voice!!

Nancy Raven , I have to agree with you on Orlando Bloom looking really good in Kingdom of Heaven. Very grown looking compared to him in Troy!

As with wanting to learn to do more with your vehicle it helps if you know someone who will show you. I take care of filling up my fluids myself and have even learnt a lot over the years by standing around with my ex-boyfriends or my mechanics while they work on my vehicle. I love getting right in there and getting my hands dirty!! Over the years I've done drive shafts on my old car with help of course, I know how to do brakes, I've changed a water pump with my mechanic on my ex's truck when we were together. I can even do oil changes!! I wish I could learn more but their really isn't a class I can take. There is a program in the city that is for students or unemployed people to learn trades but I can't do it since it's government funded and I can only work less than 20 hrs a week in able to get into it. Plus with being on my own I can't afford to not work that much! So I just watch and help whenever I can!!

Bluegrass, take it easy with you back and hope your feeling a lot better soon!!

cr, glad to hear the PT is going ok for you! I hope your back is feeling a bit better!! Sorry to hear that the family's getting sick. It's the worst when you get a summer cold!! It seems to last longer than during the winter!!

How is the L'Oreal kit working out for you?? The problem with my skin is depending on what I use on it, it gets really dry then if I use a moisturizing cream on it then it flips the other way and gets oily!!

Welcome Aili, it's nice to meet you!!

Hi Maggie how everything's going well for you!!!

Has anyone heard from Maddie?? I haven't really seen her posting except when she said that she was getting the blues in the what are you doing right now post. I hope she's doing ok!!

SB I am living in Fayetteville, North Carolina which is Home of Fort Bragg (Home of the Airborne). I am not living on base but close enough. 5 min by car and I am standing at the front gate. Not that I got ther often.

My husband was before once in Kuwait, was over in Kosovo during the big bombing in 1999 and is now in Iraq. But I guess this will not be his last tour. When he comes back in November I got the gutt-feeling that he will leave either 6 months or 12 months later for another year.

Moon Child - how can you mix up Clive Owen and Gerard Butler LOL. tongue.gif

Other than that everything over here is going great.

Hope you all doing fine as me. And for all the ones which are not feeling good I wish my best for all of you to get back on track.

When I was first married, my hubby thought I should learn how to maintain my car. So I enrolled in a ladies only mechanics class at the high school. Believe it or not...I was supposed to be the star pupil (according to the teacher tongue.gif ). Well, I changed the oil...learned to change a tire...etc...all the important things to make me independant. Right after the class was over I was so proud of myself....for about 10 minutes!!!! Then the car started acting up and we never could get it working right again. Had to sell the thing!!!!

Then a few years later, since I was a stay at home mom, I decided to mow the lawn. Well, that darn riding mover ran right over a tree and got stuck. I had to wait til my high school age son came home to get the mover off the tree. Needless to say, I never mowed the lawn again.

Not long afterwards, I bought a wooden seat for the commode and put it on. I decided to fix the commode since it wasn't working properly while I was at it. Changed the inside workings and decided to give it just a last little tightening. Well, wouldn't you know it....broke off the handle. Called my dear ol' dad (who was a plumber) and asked him to come over and fix it before hubby got home. He fixed it and then flushed the commode to make sure it was working right and water started leaking everywhere. Apparently, when I tightened the screws on the seat I must have hit the bowl and cracked it. So, now a whole new commode had to be put in. As you can imagine, my hubby wasn't too happy. But, at least he didn't have to replace it.....my dad did!!! biggrin.gif

Fortunately, hubby had better luck with our daughter. She can maintain her car, mow the lawn and do just about anything she sets her mind too. Guess she takes after her dad!!

Hey, ya'll are Southerners like me then! biggrin.gif North Carolina is right next door... My family knows that if I ever run away, they can find me in Asheville. I swear that's my favorite place in the whole country. Either I'll be at Thomas Wolfe's house causing trouble (I got yelled at by a tour guide once because I kept lingering behind the tour group, looking at daddy Wolfe's carving tools and mama's big ol' shoes!) or sitting up in the mountains sketching some beautiful scene.

Seriously, though, your husband is a brave guy, sweetie, a very brave guy. May I say that personally I appreciate the way he is serving our country? He is my hero every time he puts himself in those situations on behalf of our nation.

Hi gal pals,

Maddie, it's good to know your still around!! How have you and the kids been doing??

I just thought I drop a quick line to say hi and let you guys know that my cousin and I went and saw Batman Begins. Boy was it good, I enjoyed it more than the other Batman movies!! It was nice also to see Christian Bale half naked!! drool.gif There was even a scene in the movie were they showed his butt in his costume and my cousin missed it!! She's a huge fan of Christian Bale's and I had fun teasing her about missing it!! tongue.gif Even Liam Neeson looked really good in this movie too!!! I was glad to see that he had a bigger part in the movie than in Star Wars II:Attack of The Clones!!

BGL, some of don't have the best of luck with most things. At least you gave it your all and tried!! biggrin.gif

Hope everyone had a great day and is doing well!!

BGL! You are way too funny! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif I had a boss tell me once, "you have no mechanical ability, do you?" The rude thing. but it is true. I don't! laugh.gif Anyway, your stories were hilarious!

SB, bet you hated it when I left Asheville, didn't ya? It was the most beautiful place I had ever lived. I still dream of there.

Moonchild! I am really impressed that you can do all that mechanical work on your car! Wow! I don't know how to do anything but put fuel into it. I don't even know how to put air in my tires. I have the guys do that when I go have my oil changed at Wally World! You liked Batman, eh? I have never heard of Christian Bale before now.

Hey Maddie! You have been blue? I am sorry to hear that. I hope you feel better soon.

Monarch! A month and a half to go and our Spell of the Highlander comes out! Yay! Sounds like your hubby has been in the military a long time. Does he plan to retire military?

Oh, here is a pic of my man, actor Jason Patric! Check out the blue eyes! SB did a portrait of him for me too that I proudly have hanging in my home. I should photograph that and show you all. In the meantime, this is one of my favorite pics of him. wub.gif drool.gif

SB - thanks for the appreciation.

Spell of the Highlander will be out - great. Can't wait. Have to read that one. Still waiting for the Immortal Highlander to come out in Paperback. I have read it. Borrowed it from the library.

Well, I hope everyone is fine. Take care!

Hey, Ladies!! Hope you are having a good weekend!!!

My husband has taught me to do things car wise, too. I can change the oil, change a tire (just please don't let it be one on the Ford, lol, they're HUGE) and once I repaired the tail pipe that fell down on our other truck....in the rain...at a gas station!!!! I can do just about anything I set my mind to doing and he is the one who taught me that, too. He has way more confidence in me than I have in myself sometimes.
I will tackle just about anything now and if I don't know how to do it when I start, I will by the time it's done, lol. In a way it is fun to do all these things that a lot of people men or women, can't do!
I may have to use a lot of that knowledge sooner than I ever thought. My hubby is checking out going into the National Guard.........

Hey ladies!

Monarch! that is very commendable of your hubby wanting to go another 20 years. I would think after one war, any man would want to be out of there! But if he is retired military one day, he will be set pretty well. Do you know exactly what he is doing in Iraq? Is he allowed to tell you? Is he on the frontlines?

Hey Lil! How are you? wow! Another mechanically inclined woman! Good for you! You say your hubby may be going in the National Guard? Wow! Another brave man!

Well you all take care! speak to you soon!

Does that mean you're anti-social?

Or are you fighting your age?

Or you just don't like Red and purple together?

Or do you just hate the fashion's of old ladies?

Or do you have ADD and can't remember where you put your red hat?

CR - I guess I didn't clear my thoughts the other day. No husband is not staying in another 20. Just 10. Then he had his 20 years in the Army. He wants to get out and retiere when he is about 41. lol.

I mean if he gets promoted right before he wants to get out - he might consider doing a total of 25 years. But I guess that would be the most he is willing to do.

Hope everyone is doing fine.

Still waiting for the big bonus from the Army. It's been now close to 20 weeks since husband reenlisted and still not a dime in the bank. Well hopefully our congressman will do something for us. I want to pay off my last few credit cards and be done with it.

Hi gal pals,

Monarch, I hope that money come for guys soon!!! I know how frustrating it can be waiting for money in the mail. I wish you the best of luck!!!

Lil, my mechanical sister!! laugh.gif It's good to hear I'm not the only one!! I just love the fact that I can accomplish something new that I haven't before!!

Annabelle, what is the red hat society?? I've never heard of it before!! It's good to see you around again though we've missed ya!! How were the weddings??

Latest news for me is I went to my self defence class yesterday and I was the only one that showed up other than my cousin and there was suppose to be 5 of us in the class. My cousin couldn't participate since she dislocated her shoulder on Friday but she was able to watch. So I was all alone with two instructors that were great. One was a female and the other was a male, so I got one on one attention!!! When they were teaching me the techniques the woman instructor demonstrated the grip of a woman and then I had the guy instructor demonstrate his grip and boy was there ever a difference!!! The class lasted about 2 hrs and I learnt a lot of how to get out of being attacked and where the sensitive spots are on someone's body to attack to get away. I have to say that I have so much more confidence now that I took that class and I don't feel so helpless anymore!! flex.gif I'm sore though in my shoulders, back and even my arms but it was worth it!!! I'm even going to look into taking more classes since the defence techniques are derived from Ju-Jitsu!!

Hope everyone is doing well!!!

Ok now it's mine turn to cry!! crybaby.gif

Last night my mom and I went over to my grandparents place to see them because my grandfather is going into a home today and grandma wanted support from the family!! My cousin Annette (the one I talk about so much) and her mom showed up as well but one of my other aunts (that lives here in Calgary) didn't show up which made us mad since it showed that she wasn't showing her support to grandma. We all support her decision to do this since it's gotten to a point where she can't handle taking care of him full-time anymore!! Plus it was really hard last night being all alone and not having anyone to hold me to tell me it's going to ok...I miss that!! cry.gif I nearly called my ex last night just to talk to someone other than family but I didn't!!! It'll get better I know but it's still hard but now as I've told mom we'll just have to make sure to go see him as much as we can!!

Thanks for listening!!

Hi everyone! Hugs to all! Sounds like a few of you are going through some difficult times.

Moonchild, so sad when we have to put our relatives in a home. I am glad you were there to be with your grandparents and other family members to show your support, even though I am sure it was very hard on you and others. As far as you aunt goes. I don't know her of course, but everyone handles difficult situations differently. I hope you are feeling better.

My SIL is still in the hospital and even though she is now improving, it has been a real strain on her and family members as well.

I have been doing my physical therapy and told the PT guy all about my new exercise program that I bought by Gunnar Peterson. He knew exactly what it was to a T and told me NOT to use that program for my back. Now I gotta return it! sad.gif The PT helps but when they make me do all these exercises it is so painful, but after they massage my back and make me do stretches, it helps ease it a bit.

well those are my complaints..LOL

Hello to all!

Thanks Maddie and CR!!! It's been sort of a rough week for me but hey it's almost over!!! Besides I have the Stampede to look forward to next weekend!!!

Cr, I'm sorry that you have to return your exercise program but at least your PT warned you not to use it and do any further damage to your back!!! Take it easy with the PT, if he hurt's you just smack him!! Your back might not feel but but you might!!! laugh.gif

I hope your SIL is doing well!! I know it can be a real strain on the family but this is when family comes together the most!!!

Take care everyone!!!

Oh man, that is a tough decision to make - nobody wants to see their loved one go to a nursing home, but sometimes its the only answer. Both of my grandmas had to live in a nursing home for a few years, towards the end of their lives when their health had gotten really bad plus they had Alzheimer's/dementia respectively.

For your grandma's sake, MC, I am so glad she made that decision though - she is wise to realize her limitations.

SB

Posted by: Moon Child 04-Jul-2005, 02:20 AM
I agree with you SB, she did do the right thing. It's hard yes to see him go into a home but we all know that it's the best for him! Grandma was just getting to a point where she couldn't take care of him anymore and even had to have in care givers that came into the house. They didn't really work out either since it seemed as soon as they go there they were rushing to leave!! So at least now he'll have ongoing care 24hrs a day!! I'm hopefully going to go up and see him on either Tuesday or Friday after I'm done this long rotation at work!!

Posted by: Monarchs Own 04-Jul-2005, 06:41 AM
Moon Child - I have to agree that it is sometimes better to have people in homes to have the care they need. Sometimes it is hard on one person espcially when they are older so they can't take care of their partner anymore and if the care givers which come to help aren't doing the work it's just a waste of money. No I think as hard as it must have been for you all to make that decision it's probably for the best.

Well, my husband is right now in a big heap of trouble with his company down there in Iraq. Since we still didn't get his bonus we wrote to our congressman. Now they are jumping on him. 'How could he do this' and 'What was he thinking' and 'This is something a low Private would do but not an NCO of the United States Army' etc. Just to point out that my husband signed a 6 year contract with them and was promised money over 20 weeks ago and hasn't seen a dime as of yet and after giving the run-around he decided it was time for some higher force to intervene. I mean we pay taxes so we can pay our congressmen. So we should have the right to call on them. And so far still no money. unsure.gif

Oh my, Monarch! That sounds terrible. I hope this situation gets worked out for your hubby. Military can be so unpredictable at times. Keep us posted.

Sorry SB! I wish you would come here to vist me though. I could show you different sites! smile.gif

Hey Moonchild! How is it going? My vehicle is in the shop now...........for three days! Hubby wanted a trailer hitch put on and they can't seem to figure out how to do it! rolleyes.gif

Hope all is well. HOtter than Hades here but we are doing well. Just have been very busy.

Monarch, I can't believe your husband is in trouble with his company. If it was any of them that was happening to I know they'd be doing the same thing to help out their family!!!

Cr, things are going as best as they can be. I'm working on getting the car fixed and should hopefully have it all done with the two weeks or so. My mechanic has been really busy working out of town so he's trying to find time to work on my car. Been a bit depressed and confused since I saw my ex on Saturday. He told me that his boss is moving into the corporate office at work from the shop and Terry will be going for his boss' position of shop manager. He told me that it's way more money and it'd be nice to share it with someone. All I could say to him is yes it would. Then he asked me to come over and watch a movie with him but I didn't since I had to work that night and he also told me that he nearly had tickets for us to go Def Leppard that are coming out here in later August. So I'm all around confused and don't know what to think!!! huh.gif But I'm not trying to think anything into it since I WON'T put my heart through pain again!!!

So other than things are going alright. I'm on my last night of 8 nights straight at work then I have one day off then on for two but then have the weekend off!! I'm going to the Stampede this Sunday and I can't wait!!!! I'm going to see Jason McCoy's new band called The Road Hammers in concert.

Well gal pals I hope your all doing well otherwise!!!

Posted by: Monarchs Own 05-Jul-2005, 02:21 PM
Yes well, I guess it starts working out with the military. We will see. At least we finally have a settled amount. So now we are just waiting to have this money send to our account. Let's hope this time it comes here. I want to pay off the debt.

I got me the new Gerard Butler movie today.

It's a wonderful story and I had to keep the handkerchiefs ready. cry.gif

The actors were great. All of them. If you get the chance to watch it - I can only recommand this movie and not only because it is with Gerard Butler. tongue.gif

Moonchild! I LOVE your new avatar! Where the heck did you get that? It is so perfect for you! Ooh, heard from the ex, eh? That always makes it difficult. Just follow your heart is all I can say.

Monarch! Which Gerald Butler movie did you get again? I forgot the name of it.

I saw Troy the other night and probably one of the few people in this world who didn't like it. I am not a Brad Pitt fan, didn't like Sean Bean's hair style. I hated it when Eric Bana got killed as I like him. The best part is when Orlando became Legolas and shot Pitt in the ankle! laugh.gif

Well my van is in the shop again too. Hubby is having a trailer hitch put on and the mechanics can't seem to figure out how to do it. They have had my vehicle for four days now! ohmy.gif

Hope everyone is fine.

Hello gal pals,

Monarch, I will have to go searching for that movie and hope they have it up here!!!

CR, thanks about my avatar!! I love it too!! I just stumble across it on a web site that I found when I was looking for pics for the moon. It's exactly what I was looking for!! When I joined up for the founder's account and got to change my title I went searching for a pic of a lady looking up at the moon but didn't find anything. Then I was reading the avatars forum and decided to look for a new one myself and voila I found it. I knew I'd find one eventually and will definitely be keeping this one for awhile! biggrin.gif

With the ex I'm not trying to read anything into but I just don't know what to do. I love him so much but I know what I want out of life and he just doesn't seem to want the same things as me but he did before I guess that's why it hurts so much. I'm strong though and doing my own thing right now and not even looking for any one new yet but he will come in time when I'm ready!!

I can't believe they've had your van for 4 days now!! huh.gif You'd think they'd be done with it soon!!

Hope everyone's doing well!!

Good mid-week, everyone!

We're getting some much needed rain today, my little geraniums are practically dancing they enjoy the shower so much. I don't think there is anything more cheerful than a pot of red geraniums! My favorite flower, I suppose.

This belongs in the Book Corner I guess, but has anyone read Anne Morrow Lindbergh's "Gift from The Sea"? I just finished it, and it is really wonderful... I was surprised how relevent it was to me at this stage in life. One kid just got married (Chris, he's 22) and the other is 17 & due to finish high school soon. Then she'll be off to college and as Mrs. Lindbergh points out I will be facing a change in my home that I hadn't really considered. As the mother of 5 and wife to Charles, she says:
"I mean to lead a simple life, to choose a simple shell I can carry easily - like a hermit crab. But I do not. I find that my frame of life does not foster simplicity...The life I have chosen as wife and mother estrains a whole caravan of complications."
She goes on to discuss our we as women need to be centered, to be strong at our core, and that as changes come along (when children leave) we can approach a new chapter in our lives.

Anyone else read this little gem?

I can't stand it but I'm getting depressed again. One reason is that I lost the love for my husband a while ago and it's just not coming back.

The reasons are many and of course it's my fault as well.

bleh, but what's the future for a woman not 20 anymore, with two kids? None.
Do I need a man in my life? No. Still. Who wants to stay alone? grrr.

Anyway I signed up for counselling, gonna be an interesting experience.

Interesting discussions girls!

I'm not sure a Private is going to get promoted if he continually spits in the upper commands face if he goes over their heads....that just isn't done. It's a sure thing to the end of a possible career if you want it.

The military isn't unpredictable, it's the government and their wheels turn at a different speed than private industry.

Anytime you involve the government (or military) it takes time to get funds from them whether it's a pay raise, promotions, re-enlistment bonus, moving allowance or retirement accounts established.

If he plans on making the military a career It's not advisable to tick off the command.

Hey I agree that if you do that constantly in the Army you have problems.

But so far my husband took care of his own problems in the Army and never had such a run-around as now with his money. After 10 years in the Army you know how the systems works.

I guess after over 3000 cases are being reviewed because bonuses were promised and not paid - he wanted to make sure he gets his very first and also his very last bonus in the Army. After 10 years in his job - you are not elgible for a bonus anymore. We always got paid in time - never had a problem at all, not with moving expenses or anything.

But when you come to find out that the reenlistment officer doesn't take care of his job and leaves paperwork laying around and don't turn it in so you don't get paid - you are starting to wonder. Especially if others are getting their bonus. So after much back and forth my husband said - it's time to take action. He didn't like it but I understand his way of thinking.

We informed the congressman, that the matter is now being taken care off and the company will now check weekly what's going on with his bonus and the ones of several other soldiers which are also still waiting at least as long as my husband.

Hi all! I just wanted to check in and say hi. I've been playing hookie. wink.gif No particular reason...just needed a break I guess! rolleyes.gif

My foot is sorta healed. I went to practice yesterday and it was a bit painful. I put in some gel insoles, and also wore some "ouch pouches", which are gel pads for dancers. Even with all that there was some pain, but I'll deal with it 'cause I have a competition in 3 weeks.

I haven't had time to really read everyone's posts, so I hope everyone is doing ok. My husband's sister has stage 3 liver disease and they're treating it like cancer. And my brother-in-law's wife has 2 blood clots in her arms, so she's back on blood thinners. Things have been a bit hectic! unsure.gif Everyone in my husband's family is seeming to have bad luck. I just hope my foot was the worst of any bad luck coming our way! rolleyes.gif Heck, that's SOOO minor in comparison to the other health problems going around.

I've gotta run. I'll check in with you guys later! cool.gif

Hello all, It's been a while since I've checked in, some very interesting reading here! biggrin.gif It seems like the days go by so fast I can't keep up with everything I need to. A friend of hubby's and mine is coming for a visit the last week-end of this month. I need to do some serious housecleaning, I just can't get in the groove. I have a 3 day week-end which starts tomorrow, I hope the mood will strike and I can get something done. Of course it would probably help if I stayed off of the motorcycle with hubby. Can't get housework done when you stay gone for hours.
Last Saturday hubby and I went to my brother's daughter's wedding in Tenn. We rode the motorcycle there and it took us about 4 hours including the stops to rest and eat. My sister and her husband from Indiana rode with us. You'll never guess were the wedding was at, on a 150 acre farm in a barn! Of course the barn had been cleaned out. No cow or horse poop around! biggrin.gif There was plenty of food and drinks. The first wedding that I've wore my Levi jeans to! biggrin.gif Later on in the evening my brother and his wife, my sister and her husband and hubby and me rode on into Gatlinburg, Dollywood and Seiverville. We stopped in Gatlinburg and walked around to ease our tired butts! Got back to the motel around 11:30 that night and called it a night. Woke up to fireworks being let off at a dirt track that was close by. Got up the next morning and took off for home. We took the scenic route home, stopped in Abingdon Va. at two big flea markets that are in what used to be tobacco barns. It was a fun time and that's why I can't get any housework done. We're getting lots of rain so maybe I won't be able to go out this week-end.
Today, Friday I go for my yearly woman's check-up! As a reminder to all you ladies...don't forget the pap smear and if your over the age of 40 the mammogram.

Take care all and I hope everyone has a good week-end!

Hello ladies,

I wish first of all good health and speedy recovery to all of you and your loved ones.

And now some good news - we got our bonus yesterday and are now officially debt free! (excluding the cars - but that's something you more and likely have always).

It feels so nice to not worry about creditcard payments anymore. I am so excitied.

clap.gif clap.gif clap.gif clap.gif clap.gif

And when husband comes home in August we plan on shredding all the credit cards with the exception of one. thumbup.gif

Hi gal pals,

Monarch, all I have to say to you girl is.... toot.gif Now you'll have to have a party and we'll all come!! band.gif pizza.gif pepsi.gif

Maddie, I hope the counselling goes well for you. I know what it feels like to be lonely but have faith that you will find a man when you least expect it!! hug.gif to you

Irish Stepper, it's good to hear that your back up and practicing again with your foot. Are you still going to compete even if your foots still a bit sore??
Sorry to hear your husband's family's not doing well, it good to hear though that their really serious about your sister in-law liver disease. I wish her well.

Maggie, that's awesome to hear you had a good time at the wedding. I've never heard of people being able to wear jeans to wedding. I've heard of country weddings but not that country. laugh.gif When you talk about you and your hubby going for trips on your bike, it brings back memories of my childhood when my parents had two motorcycles and they use to take my brother and I on them all the time. Then when we got older we each got a dirt bike and boy were they fun!! I've never driven a motorcycle before but definitely want to learn and then save up for one... happy.gif
As for the yearly check up I have mine next Tuesday. But I'm happy since after this one I get one done in a year instead of 6 months!! clap.gif I've been getting them done every 6 months for the past two years!! The reason is that I had abnormal cells and had day surgery done. They tested to see if the cells would go back to normal or turn cancerous. Well they turned cancerous so that's why I have to check-ups every 6 months but this one is my last!!

CR, how's the van doing?? Is it still in the shop??? Car's still not fixed but going to the mechanics this weekend for sure!!! Did you get your new bank card already?? I haven't had any problems with my account which I'm happy about!!

As for me things are going well. I just got off work this morning from my 8 night in a row rotation and don't have to work till Tuesday night but then it's another long haul of work with 4 on, 1 off then 5 on again. My friend from Saskatchewan might be coming in this weekend, I don't know yet. Other than that things are going good for me!!

Hope everyone has a good weekend!!! cheers.gif

Hey Moon Child...yeah, I plan to compete on it, if I'm able to. I've already missed the past 2 competitions that I was signed up for. Plus, starting in August or September, I'll be on a 6 month suspension from competing. I've had it with my current dance teacher and am going to switch schools. However, doing so, will result in a forced 6 months off from the Feis circuit. It prevents schools from recruiting a high caliber dancer just to win an upcoming competition, so I understand it. My current teacher really neglects her adult dancers, since we have no chance of hitting the big time and winning world championships, she doesn't invest the time and effort into us that we'd like to see. Because of my foot problems, I asked her what dance shoe she'd recommend to keep from injuring it further. All she did was give me the 4 main brand names and told me to check into it and get what's right for me. If that wasn't a blow off! Just 4 weeks prior, she gave a specific recommendation to one of her "pets" in our adult class. That other girl helps her teach one of the kids classes. So needless to say, I was ticked. That was only the latest of things that have made me mad...the last straw I guess. So anyway...yes I'm going to compete with it! laugh.gif

My problem right now isn't even with my foot. It doesn't hurt at all after wednesday's practice. Right now, it's my calf muscles that are screaming at me for abusing them after 2 straight months off! rolleyes.gif

Hey ladies!

Irish stepper! So good to see you! I have been wondering where you went off to! So glad you came back. Sorry your foot is still acting up and now your calf too. Hope you can get all healed up and back to dancing and competition. I would imagine that Irish dancing is very hard on your body. I bought a video of it and tried to teach myself to do it.......no way! laugh.gif Too hard on my back anyway, but it sure looks like fun.

Maddie, I am so sorry to hear of what you are going through right now. I hope you and your counselor will get along well and help solve some issues and make the important decisions you may need to make in the future.

Monarch! Very very happy to hear that you and hubby got your bonus! Whew! It is a shame how our government treats our military who is out there doing all the dirty work for them and us civilians.

Moonchild! I finally got my van out of the shop Thursday afternoon! Arrgh! I had so much to do yesterday and I went to the ATM to get some cash and blanked out on my debit card number. Ever do that? so stupid! rolleyes.gif Anyway, after the third time it ate my card and I have to wait 10 days before I get a new one! ohmy.gif

Hey Maggie! So good to see you! Glad to know things are going well. That wedding you went to sounds like a real hoot! Bet that was a wonderful time had by all. Hope you had fun at the "lady doctor." Did all that a few months ago myself. rolleyes.gif

Well hello to everyone else. Hope all is well and happy.

Hi galpals,

Whew....so much going on! Hard to keep up with everything, but it sure it good to see you all here!!! biggrin.gif

IS...Missed ya, gal! Glad to see you back. Hope your foot continues to heal as you start putting it through the steps! wink.gif After 2 months, I imagine you are going to be sore for awhile.

Maddie...so sorry that you are going through such a rough time. Hopefully, you will find a compassionate therapist that can help you through this. They can certainly be of help. And we are here for you if you want to talk::hug

Monarch...what good news! Always feels good to be debt free. I remember being that way once!! rolleyes.gif

Moonchild...did you enjoy the stampede? I would love to get to one sometime. As far as your ex is concerned, I agree with CR....go with your head (but think with your head while you are at it) smile.gif

Maggie...Sounds like you had a great trip. Go as often as you can....house work can wait!! wink.gif

SB...I agree that there's nothing like pot of happy flowers. I love pots of flowers on the deck, all kinds. I will be looking for the book you recommended, "Gifts from the Sea". It sounds like a good book to read.

CR...Glad you finally got your van back. Isn't it maddening when the machine takes your card!! Happened to me while on a trip. Thank goodness the bank was able to retrieve it for me the next morning when they did the daily maintence. Now I ise my bank card as a visa, it requires a signature, but I don't have to remember any numbers.

Hi to everyone else.

Hope that everyone's sick family members are on the mend.

Have a great day!! smile.gif

Hi gals, just stoping in to say hi!!

Irish Stepper, it's good to hear that your foot is doing better and your going to compete!! I'm sorry to hear that you have to switch schools but if I was in your situation I totally would too. I hate how people have favorites with whatever you do being work or doing interests you have. Like sure if you have favorites fine but don't flaunt it to everyone else and make people feel bad!!!

CR, that's good to hear you finally got your van back!!! With my card when I first got it I forget my telephone banking pin# and had to go in and get a new one. Then last week I lost my new card and had to go again into the bank and get a new card. I changed my new pin as well since I wasn't too sure of the pin#.

BluegrassLady, I haven't gone to the stampede yet but I'm going later on tonight when it cools down a bit!!

Well things with me have been busy the past couple of days. My girlfriend from Saskatchewan came into town this morning at about 7am. When I saw her we both hugged tight and both started to cry!! She's in town till next Saturday so between working all this week I'm going to try and spend as much time as I can with her!! She gave me two presents when she got in town. She gave me a really nice necklace and an amethyst stone to put on my silver chain I wear now. I'll have to take a new pic so you guys can see the cool design in the necklace that she gave me!!!

Things with the ex are ok. It's getting a bit easier every time I talk to him but when I see him that's when I get a bit down. He called me the other morning and told me that he had some bad news from the doctor. He told me that he's found out that he has bone disease and it's progressed in the last six months. The doctor told him that he has gaps between his knees and is surprised he's still walking. He also said that it's going to progress into the rest of his joints and he might end up in a wheelchair! I told Terry (my ex) that all this time over the past two years that he's been seeing other doctors all they were doing was giving him pain killers and setting him up to get knee surgery done and now it won't even help!!! I told him though that he doesn't have to deal with this on his own that I will be there for him but only as a friend. I can barely handle that sometimes! wink.gif

Hope everyone is doing well otherwise!!!

Posted by: CelticRose 10-Jul-2005, 08:14 PM
Wow Moonchild! You ex is having to deal with a lot! I am sorry to hear that about him. Um........being cautious here. Hope he doesn't use that to try to get you back more than a friend. unsure.gif

Sounds like you have had your share of debit card problems too. Well my bank is an hour from here, so I had to use the ATM here in my town. That will be the last time I do something stupid like that. It will take me 10 days to get a new one! I usually use mine as a credit card too, but I was at the post office getting a postal money order and they required a debit card or cash. Harumph!

I bought a new exercise DVD yesterday at Wal-mart. Anybody heard of Leslie Sansone? She does the Walk Away the Pounds series and they are really very good. I have them all on video but they are for 2, 3 and 4 miles and my back can't tolerate that anymore. So I found one for just 1 mile and I figured that would be better than nothing, eh? My doctor keeps saying the best thing I could do is walk, but it is so painful after awhile. So I think I can handle 1 mile a day.......I hope. I will let you know. I am still at 30 lbs loss. haven't gained and haven't lost so I gotta do something to jump start my system to losing weight again.

I go to our Highland games this coming weekend to see Diana Gabaldon. We are trying to work out having dinner with her too! yay! I bought a couple new books at Wal-mart too..............Highland romance of course! rolleyes.gif

Posted by: Annabelle 10-Jul-2005, 08:37 PM
Monarch I'm surprised they Army or any branch would drag it's heals right now but then that is the military.

My hubby was in for 20+years so I know how frustrating it can be. But if he wants to stay in he for his protection needs to follow the chain of command as much as possible.

My son is in the Army at the 32nd Airbourne Division at Ft Bragg NC. (yea, those crazy guys who like to jump out of perfectly good airplanes, I still don't understand that one)

Why It's still working?

Did everyone know "Geronimo" is buried behind the Officer's Club in Oklahoma, the training base for the Army? Guess it would be too much to have the jump training school and basic over around the District of Columbia. It would take longer to yell " John Quincy Adams" than "Geronimo"! Go figure!

Hang in there everyone! Tomorrow's another Day! Thank God!!!

Posted by: BluegrassLady 11-Jul-2005, 06:50 AM
Hi gals...

Annabelle.....good to see you. How are you? Did you make it to the Grandfather Mtn Games this past weekend? I would have loved to go....hopefully next year. wink.gif

Moonchild....I was rereading my previous post and saw that I said to "follow your head and think with your head". Meant to say, follow your heart but think with your head. Sorry about that... guess I had better start proofreading a bit more. rolleyes.gif I am sorry to hear about your ex's health problems.
Did you make it to the stampede?

CelticRose...Yes, I have the walking tapes from Leslie Sansone. Haven't used them recently tho. Guess I had better get back to them...my doctor told me to walk too. It's a shame we are so far from each other. Always more fun to walk with a friend. smile.gif

Irish Stepper...have you found a new dance teacher yet? How's your muscles feeling?????

Hi to everyone else.....

Good afternoon, everyone!

We're enjoying a few minutes of sunshine, after the fringe of hurricane Dennis' wrath caused a fair bit o' trouble in the last day or so... I can hear the chainsaws next door, cutting up a very tall black locust tree that fell in my elderly neighbor's yard blocking her driveway. I chatted with her earlier and she has a leak in a bedroom too, right over the bed! Poor lady. How relieved I am that we re-roofed our house only a few months ago, otherwise I'd be putting buckets in every room! laugh.gif

Annabelle - I am wondering about those too. Even my husband (he doesn't jump) says - why the heck would I want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

My husband is stationed here with the 175th Engineer Company here in Fort Bragg.

Well, whatever did Army did - they did it quick this time with our bonus. And just for that my husband had to get under the knife this morning over there. Heat related injury due to constant wear of flak-west and all the other gear. But he is doing fine. Nothing major. He called me a few hours after and he was really fine. And since only a medic did the cutting - I guess it wasn't that important in the first place.

Hope everyone is doing great.

Since this is the Ladies Only spot, I guess I'd best introduce myself and "set a spell." Pretentious Wombat be my full name but y'all can call me Wombat.

Although not Celtic by birth, one of my daughters brought me around to the Celtic way of things when she segued from ballet and jazz into a bit of Irish dance, learning from a former Riverdance coach. From there on, I was hooked into all things Celtic. Although my daughter doesn't dance anymore, she and I religiously attend the Georgia Renaissance Festival and have friends in a couple of the singing groups there.

Another of my daughters is attending college with a Theatre Major and has actually done lighting design for Emerald Rose, so we have more Celtic connections there, too. (Proud Wombat Mom) clap.gif

As for me, I enjoy knitting and reading, mostly...often at the same time. My significant other is a writer, so I especially enjoy reading his stuff but I don't knit while reading it or he would pout (men, you know). I live in N.E. Georgia, where currently we are getting some of the remnants of Hurricane Dennis. And I need to turn off the computer because here comes the lightning!

Best to everyone - I'm glad to be on board.

"Celtic" Wombat

Welcome , Wombat.... so nice to have you here. I live north of you in south central Kentucky. I'm hoping to get to the Stone Mtn Games in October. Clann an drumma is going to be there. I saw them at the Glasgow Games last month and instantly became a fan.
Sounds like you have a couple of very talented daughters. You have reason to be proud! smile.gif

Monarch...hope your husband is alright. Sure sounds uncomfortable to me.

Hi to the rest of the ladies here. Hope everyone is having a nice evening.

Hi gal pals,

Glad to hear everyone is doing alright!

Welcome Wombat, glad to see you already feel at home with all of us! hug.gif

CR, with the ex I think he's been hinting towards us maybe getting back together but it's not going to happen!!! I will be his friend but nothing more than that!! He's hurt me too much and doesn't want I want in life so I'm happy to move on with my life!!

I haven't heard of Leslie Sansone before but I hope the tapes work for you!! Take it easy with the walking and don't exert yourself too much!! Your not going to believe this but yesterday I got a call from Revive Women's Health Club saying that I won a package there!!! I couldn't believe my ears!!! So I'm going to try to get there tomorrow to check it out. I know I need to start exercising again since I went for a physical today at the doctor's and I was told I'm overweight. wink.gif On the plus side though my girlfriend from out of town told me about this natural herbal pill that goes for the fat cells in your body. Her friend is taking it and she said that it targets the stomach area (most women's problem area for loosing weight!) and then it targets your hips and butt and thighs next. She's already lost about 30lbs in 3 months!!! The supplier for it is here in Calgary!!! As soon as I get the name again and check out their web site I'll let you all know!!!

BG, I went to the stampede on Sunday and it was great!! I had so much fun!! I saw The Roadhammers (Jason McCoy's new band) in concert and ended up getting drunk. I totally wasn't planning on it and haven't drank in about a year!!!Had a major hangover the next morning but nothing that Advil couldn't take care of!!! laugh.gif We took some pics of The Roadhammers and of us that I will post as soon as we get them developed!!!

SB, glad to hear your family and neighbors didn't have too much damage from the hurricane. They can be pretty freaky!!

MO, it's good to hear that your husband's doing alright besides the heat!!

Things with me have been crazy busy this week with my girlfriend being in town!! We've been doing lots of shopping and spending every day together!! She bought me an early birthday gift yesterday since she won't be here next week, it's exactly what I wanted!!! I got a kit containing on how to connect with your guardian angels. angel.gif I've read through the books in the kit but haven't done anything with it yet!!

I'm also getting the car running this weekend!! clap.gif I can't wait!!! I should have it at least running then later on I will be doing a tune up on it!! Freedom at last!!! It's been nice using my mom's car but it's not the same as my own!!

Well talk to you all soon!! I'll be posting from work mostly since we have a Trojan virus on the computer at home!!!

Take care all!!!

Posted by: Siobhan Blues 13-Jul-2005, 02:19 PM
Hey, another Georgia member!! Outstanding! Wombat, some of us regulars are talking about meeting at the October Stone Mt. Highland Games just to say hello to each other. Maybe you can join us.
I missed the Renaissance Festival this year, but my son and his new bride went & said they had a great time. I believe she bought a costume, don't remember which one but I think she said it had a corset or something. Chris sure grinned watching her describe it to me; he must have liked the way she looked in it. wink.gif She says she hopes to work there next year.

I'm in middle Ga myself, just west of Atlanta. But I'm familiar with northeast Georgia - my husband's beloved aunt lived in Clayton for many years and we enjoyed such wonderful visits with her. And an art gallery that carries my originals & prints is the Tallulah Gallery, on the old overlook road right before you get to the Gorge.

Glad to have you here,
Siobhan Blues

Posted by: pretentiouswombat 14-Jul-2005, 08:09 PM
Hi Siobhan - Thanks for the warm welcome! The Highland Games sounds like a real possibility. I have yet to go but I've been wanting to attend forever. The big shame is that I can actually see Stone Mountain from my street. It's that close. What's really funny is that I don't think of anything west of Atlanta as middle Georgia - boy, I'm thinking middle Georgia is about Macon or so. biggrin.gif Silly me! I'm over in Snellville.

My 18-year old daughter went to the RenFest this year about 8 or 9 times, I think. I went on the opening and closing days. We know all the guys with The Lost Boys and the three singers with Three-Quarter Ale, so we enjoy going to see them all.

Are you going to the North Georgia Celtic Festival? It's on the 23 and 24 of July up in Gainesville. The Lost Boys are performing there, so we will definitely be there on Sunday.

I've never heard of it, honestly, but I do know where Gainesville is... might just try to go! Thanks for letting us know about it.

Hi gal pals,

Sorry I haven't been on much but life has just been very hectic for me that past week!! I finally got my car going last Friday!! biggrin.gif I helped Mike (one of mechanics) fix the car and he even took pictures of me working on it!! I'll post them as soon as I can get them scanned and into the computer as well as the pictures from the Stampede. The car has been running awesome but this weekend I'm going out to Brooks, which is about 2 hrs from me, to see Mike so we can change the back struts on the car. My visit with my girlfriend, Michelle, went good. I was sad to see her go though, but we've made plans for me to go out to Saskatchewan to see her at the beginning of August for about 5 days or so. I can't wait to go back there since I haven't been back home since 1992 when we came out here to Calgary!! Plus I'll be taking the car!!! So with this trip to Brooks on Saturday will be a mini highway trip for the car to make sure it's going to make it and there's no problems.

I had a good birthday yesterday. One of my other best friends took me out for breakfast after I got off work and then we went and got our nails done. By the time I got home I was so tired that I crashed!! Then I had to come to work for 10:45, wink.gif but it's money for the PEI trip and my trip in a couple of weeks! Other than that there's not really much that's new with me! Well I should get back to work...only two more nights than the weekend off. Boy I can't wait!! happy.gif

I hope everyone's doing well!!

Moon Child - the best wishes - even though belated. I hope you had a wonderful day.

Well, husband got now an approx. date for coming for leave. Seems around the middle of August will be the time he makes it home. Two weeks with him. It will be a trying time (lol) to get used to him again.

Hope everyone is doing fine and best wishes to those who don't feel well or have loved ones which need best wishes for recovering.

Thanks Monarch!! That's awesome to hear that you get see your husband soon!! It'll probally take a couple of days getting use to him being there!!! But by the time he has to go you just might want him to stay or maybe even leave!! laugh.gif After August will he come home again for Thanksgiving or Christmas?

Monarch, I am not a therapist, but I have therapists friends and they all tell me it is very normal to have to go through a re-aquaintance period after a long absence. I am sure you will do fine. anxious to hear how all goes. I bet you are SO excited to have your hubby back home. Two weeks seems hardly enough, doesn't it? sad.gif give him our greetings and support when he arrives!

Thanks CR and SB, don't feel bad about missing my birthday!! A lot of family members of mine forgot to even call me!! ie my brother and step-dad. I got pretty much what I wanted. My mom paid for me to get my nails done, my one girlfriend bought me Miss Congeniality 2 since I'm just starting to build up my DVD collection again. wink.gif My dad bought me the back struts for my car since I need them before I go out of town in a week in a half. I also received some calls and was wished a happy birthday!!

So how is everyone doing otherwise?? Car is still acting up...grrr...but taking it to Jack (my other mechanic) tomorrow to do a pressure test on the cooling system and then were going to flush it out!! I also have to change the thermostat again but hopefully with both of these it will make it quit leaking anti-freeze!!!

Well gotta go for now! Take care all!!

I'm having some car - well, truck actually - troubles meself! My little red Sonoma Pickup is having battery issues & currently refuses to start. But hubby promises to get it resolved soon, and in the meantime I can drive my daughter's car if I buy gas now and then.

Posted by: Moon Child 23-Jul-2005, 03:15 PM
SB, you gotta hate when vehicles done run the way you want them too! laugh.gif I'm a truck girl myself. In the past 5 yrs all I've ever own is a truck but I had to settle for the car when I got it. As soon as I have a chance though I'm buying another truck!! My dream is a '72 Chevy half ton. drool.gif

Posted by: Siobhan Blues 23-Jul-2005, 03:45 PM
Okay, a bit of a confession then...

I'm a closet Muscle Car devotee!! If I could have any car in the world, I'd want a 1973 Chevelle all hopped up and ready to go!

laugh.gif laugh.gif

I had a 1976 Camaro in college, 350 V-8 so I know how wonderful a Camaro is... but I've always wished that I could get behind the wheel of a Chevelle! Red, please, with black stripes on the hood... and as big an engine as you can fit under that big ole hood.

SB

Posted by: Moon Child 23-Jul-2005, 04:22 PM
I love the old muscle cars too but my heart will always be with a '72 Chevy!! laugh.gif The thing that sucks is that I actually had one before I got the car, but we ended up trading it for the car I have now!!! cry.gif We were just having to many problems with it. It was a 3 speed on the floor but the linkage for it was so crappy and it keep on getting stuck in gear!! Plus it was also at a time where Terry and I had broken up and he was keeping the other truck we had and he wanted to have the car since it was more reliable!!

So now I'm on the hunt for my dream truck. When I get it I want to soop it up with a 454 under the hood or even bigger!! Then get a good paint job on it and puts fatties on it!! What I mean by fatties are 50 and 60 series tires on the front and back to jack the ass end up. We had them on the old truck and boy did it look sweet!!! tongue.gif I remember taking my girlfriend for a ride in my old truck and I literally scared her in it so I doubt that she'll drive with me in the next one I get!! laugh.gif

Hey ladies,

yes CR I think it will be nice to have my husband home. And I know the feeling on getting re-aquainted with my husband again. But I have no doubt that we will do fine.

Moon Child - my husband should be home before Thanksgiving. So after he leaves here by the end of August he will only be spending about 2 months back overseas. Then he will be home for good - at least for a while I hope.

And today I received bad news from Germany. I just found out today that my father passed away about 7 weeks ago. He passed away in Russia and no one seemed it neccessary to call any relatives - not even me. I am upset about all this. Now I even have to fight for my inheritance. Not that I am hoping for much but my childhood pictures and things would be nice to have.

I am not sure if I am crying more because my father is gone or the way I was told. By a total stranger on the phone. I am still getting used to the idea that my father is no more with us.

Posted by: Dreamer1 24-Jul-2005, 11:10 AM
Monarch,
I am so sorry. My heart is with you, and my prayers. I know that your hubby would also want to be there with you right now.

I can't understand how anyone could've waited this long to call you, or allowed a complete stranger to tell you something so important.

Surely they can't deny you your own things, and pictures. How could they?!? Fight for all that you deserve!

Posted by: Moon Child 24-Jul-2005, 07:42 PM
Monarch, hug.gif sorry to hear about your dad passing away!! I can't believe either that they didn't have the decency to call you or any of your other family, then it being a complete stranger!! Then on top of that you have to fight for your inheritance! Fight for it you deserve to have it and your father would probally want you to have them too! Be strong girl, we're all here for you!!

I'm so happy to hear that your hubby's coming soon to help you get through this rough time!! Just remember your not alone!!

Take care of you!!! hug.gif

Thanks Dreamer, thanks Moon Child.

Yes it's hard - I have to act now very fast. Someone tried to alreayd clear out my fathers account. Lucky for me - they didn't have the right PIN.

So I can only hope that by tomorrow we got a Restraining Order to freeze all accounts and everything else.

It's hard when you find out things that seems to only happen to people in movies.

It seems I don't get time to grieve - I have to make sure that my fathers posessions aren't taken away.

sad.gif Its sad enough to find out your dad passed away - to not have been told right away is awful! I'm so sorry, MO.

Oh my, Monarch! I am so very sorry to just now learn of this about your father. And then for you to have to learn it 7 weeks after and from a complete stranger at that! That is horrific! I am so sending hugs your way and hope your hubby can be with you soon. You have my prayers and condolences. Take care and thanks for letting us know.

I just have to say I love trucks too. Hubby won't buy me one though. He says their gas hogs and he wants a passenger vehicle. I would like to get a Honda CRV though. I really like those.

Hope everyone else is doing fine. I am still in physical therapy and they are working my butt off!

Glad you had a great birthday Moonchild.

Hi all you gal pals out there...
Looks like we have all been busy since no one has posted for a few days. Hope you are all doing okay. Another weekend is here. What are you all doing?
School will be starting on Thursday, August 4th here in Kentucky. The grandkids are all excited. The two middle ones (age 9, two months apart) will be in the same class for the first time. Can't believe that their summer vacation is over.
My mom and I will be heading to Michigan on Monday to pick up my sister and her dog and bring them here to Kentucky for a visit. My sister had a heart attack a couple of years ago and no longer feels comfortable driving long distances by herself. Since her son and family live here now, we're hoping that she will decide to move here too.
Our heat wave has gone, thank goodness. Today was in the 80's. Much nicer. I am looking forward to fall. I love the colors and "sweater" weather.
Thanks all for now, my friends. Have a great weekend, whatever you do!

Hey gal pals! I have no plans for this weekend but who knows what hubby has in mind! I never know and until football season comes back, he will be bored and bugging me! rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

All is well here. Just trying to keep cool. Been doing a lot of genealogy search and garb re-enactment search for my re-enactments I am getting into.

Hope you all are doing well.

Hi gals,

BluegrassLady, enjoy your visit with your sister! How long is she planning on visiting for???

I can't believe that school is already starting next week down there!! huh.gif School up here doesn't start until the beginning of September!!

CR, how's your back and physio doing??? With these re-enactments what exactly are you doing?? It sounds interesting!!

Well with me, it's been pretty hectic the past little while with working on the car, working lots and getting ready for my trip this week to Saskatchewan. Last week Jack and I changed the rad in the car, the sending unit (in my car it reads how hot or cold the temperature of the car is), and the leaks that were happening. I went to take the car home but it over heated again so i babied it back to Jack's and it's going to sit there until I get back from my trip and then were going to both find time to do it together. So Jack and I figured out that we have to change the head gaskets in the car, which has been leaking causing the car to overheat. It's a long job though!!

So I'm back to driving mom's car mad.gif but at least I get to take it out to Saskatchewan this Wednesday!!! I can't wait to leave!! My girlfriend Michelle says that this Saturday I get to work in the bar she bartends and manages in. They are getting in a DJ that night and I get to be the "beer tub girl". I've never worked in a bar so this should be interesting!!! laugh.gif She also has a friend that she wants me to meet as well when I get out there!!! His name is Andrew. He's 6'6 huh.gif which will be funny to see since I'm only about 5'2!!! We've been talking on the phone, sending e-mails and talking on MSN messenger for the 3 weeks. We have a lot of things in common and he evens writes poetry!!! I was shocked when he told me that!! He's 27, which is a year younger than me!! All the guys I've dated have been at least 4 yrs older than me but it's always good to do something different!!! laugh.gif So it'll be interesting to meet him!! I'm leaving this Wednesday morning after work and will be staying for a week. I will have lots of pictures to post when I get back, no doubts about that!! biggrin.gif Well anyways I should get back to work!!

Take care everyone and have a great week!! hug.gif

Age is just a number, Moon Child, especially the older you get... let us know if this guy is as interesting as he appears to be.

Our schools in GA used to start Sept. 1 too, but for a couple of years the start date has moved further back into August. This year its Aug. 10, a Wednesday for some reason, and altho I feel sorry for the kids I am quite tired of my daughter's moodiness & look forward to a quiet house to myself soon. TEENagers, grrrr! argue.gif

Moon Child - don't worry about age. My husband is over 2 years younger. But so far it worked out for the best.

I was not to keen on dating a younger man but since the day I met him - it really didn't matter to me. I can say - age is only a number on paper. It's important how you feel inside and inside I still feel a lot younger than I am.

BTW - Husband is coming home next week for leave. Yeah. He leaves Baghdad on Saturday if everything goes well and then will leave from Kuwait anytime after Sunday. So keep your fingers crossed for me - that everything goes well and makes it home safe!

School here in NC starts Aug 25. I can't wait for school to start. It's time. After 3 months I think I deserve a break.

Hello ladies! I feel for you that have kids. I don't know how you do it.

All is well here, just been very busy and keep putting off that I will catch up on here on the weekends, but until sports season comes back around, hubby finds more things to do on the weekends and out of the house and it is TOO hot to be out of the house! but he is bored and wants to do something.

I am still going for physical therapy and my back does feel better, but it doesn't take much to get it flared up again so I just do what I can and what I can't and go from there. I have been doing a lot of exasperating research on the the garb I need to wear for the re-enactments at the Highland games. I will be part of the 1745 Jacobite Society and my persona will be one of the work ladies who traveled with the Jacobite army. So far all the outfits look really doury and old ladyish, but then I don't want to portray a visiting wife in a fancy day dress either. I have the heat here to consider as well as comfort and expense. These outfits are not cheap so I am looking into possibly making it myself. Ugh. I am a very good seamstress but just hate to do it anymore.

Moonchild, I too am of the opinion to not let age get in your way. Other factors play a much more important role. One of my nieces is getting married in November to a guy who is 2 years younger than her. She had an issue with it also, but she got over it. I hope all is well with you and hope you have a really terrific time on your trip and take lots of photos.

Monarch! So thrilled for you concerning your hubby returning home. I bet you can hardly wait. How long will he be home? How old are your kids? I bet they are excited too.

hey, SB! Hope you are doing well. So Lauren has a "tude" eh? LOL Will write you soon.

Hello to everyone else.

Hello ladies,

well husband called about 2 hours ago to let me know that he is waiting to be picked up to leave for the Airport. John is anxious to come home. He will be here for 2 weeks which is nice.

My son Gerald can't wait for Daddy to come home. He is cleaning his room and hopes to have a lot of fun with Dad. He can't wait to drag his Daddy to football practice. CR My son is 10 1/2.

Otherwise I am just waiting here and start counting the hours now. LOL

My best wishes for good health to all of you. So if you don't hear from me in the near future - I am busy enjoying my husband. tongue.gif biggrin.gif

But I am trying to sneak a few minutes to let you know how everything went when he came home.

Posted by: Monarchs Own 06-Aug-2005, 06:49 PM
Okay ladies,

it's official - my husband is on his way home. If nothing goes wrong he will be here in North Carolina on Monday. Don't know the exact time yet.

He called me 12:30 am here on Saturday - gee and here I was in dreamland already - tongue.gif and told me almost under tears, that he lost his wedding ring. He lost now almost 30 lbs over there that his ring was so loose on his finger that he lost it.

Poor guy. He is more upset about this than me. I told him - that I rather have him home in good health and in one piece without ring than dead with ring.

I guess he calmed down - he called me in the early afternoon to let me know that he finally is in Kuwait now. So tomorrow he will leave there and be on his way home for two whole weeks. Can't wait to have him back.

Hope everyone is doing fine. Right now I am feeling great! biggrin.gif

Short update!

Husband is on his way home! I will leave here in about an hour and a half to drive up to Raleigh. We dont' know exactly when John will fly in but I rather wait then be late.

It's been now 265 days since I last saw my husband (not that I am counting tongue.gif ) and when he leaves here in 2 weeks again - he will have about two and half months left to serve over there for this tour.

Well, I better get ready and wake up my son, so he can eat breakfast and get ready.

Take care all of you!

Monarch, thanks for the update. Take care and we will be thinking of you all! I bet you are SO excited!

Well ladies,

I have a few minutes to sneek up here - I had to renew my subscription etc. and so I thought I stop by to give you all an update.

I picked up my hubby John in Raleigh - I was so lucky that he got the early flight he was on stand by for. I hardly recognized him. He lost at least 30 lbs.

But otherwise he is in good spirits and loves being home. So far we have gone to the movies - seen Batman Begins, went out eating several times and plan on going to Carowinds in a few days - depending on the weather.

Today we will go see another movies - maybe even two. It's so wonderful to have John home for so long. He spoiled me rotten. Now he got me a new desk for my new computer. A really big one with two workstations so John and me can sit next to each other when we are doing work. I love it. biggrin.gif

I hope you are all doing allright and I give you an update in between.

Posted by: CelticRose 12-Aug-2005, 04:18 PM
Monarch! So great to hear from you! Glad hubby is safe and sound and doing well. I bet he is so glad to be home as well, eh? Wow! He bought you a new computer desk? gosh! How so very nice! Sounds like you both are having lots of fun and makeup time together. You're really not supposed to be on here as you are supposed to be with him, remember? tongue.gif Tell him hello from all us and that he is in our support and prayers!

Take care and have fun. I bet your son is ecstatic having daddy home! wink.gif

Oh that is so incredibly sweet you're together again! My goodness, how you must have missed him. Sounds like he's lost a good deal of weight, but considering the situation its understandable isn't it... you be sure and tell him he's my (our?) hero, okay?! I mean it. I appreciate every single person in the armed services who is over there representing our country.

Hello Ladies,

short update (yeah yeah, I know I am not supposed to be online - but if he is doing things on his computer I might as well do some on mine tongue.gif ).

Well, we have been to several movies and several restaurants and been here at the Paramount Amusement Park (Carowinds).

Otherwise we just spend time together which is really nice. My son is really happy that his Daddy is here. Just so sad that on next week Wednesday (24th) he is leaving again - going back to Iraq. But at least he will be back between end of October and middle of November. So not much time before he is home for a while - before he might have to get over there again.

Take care all of you!

Hello my gal pals!!! How I've missed you all!! hug.gif

Monarch, I'm so happy to hear that your hubby is home safe and I hope your enjoying your time together!!!!

My trip was great and was definitely not long enough!!! The night working in the bar was good, I wasn't really that busy but the waitresses were!! They had a ball tournament that weekend I was there so the bar was steady!!

Things with Andrew went great!!! We hit it off right away and have so much in common but he's really shy. But that's ok since I seem to balance him out!! tongue.gif He's really tall too!!! The first time we hugged I had to step up on my tippie toes and he still had to bend down to give me a hug!! laugh.gif We're still talking nearly every day and can't wait to see each other again. He even sent me a poem he wrote for me after I got back, it was so sweet. He even told me he has another one he's in the process of writing right now!! How could I be so lucky to find him!?!

I enjoyed it so much out there that I have decided to move there!!! Not only for the fact of Andrew and my friends and family but I looked into going back to school and taking mechanics!! I'm bet your all not that surprised I want to get into mechanics but they have a really great program out there. I would either have to go to Saskatoon or Moose Jaw for the course since they don't have it in Prince Albert but I would prefer to go to Saskatoon since it's only about a 45 min drive away. The first part of the course is to get my certificate to work in a shop that lasts for 36 weeks and costs about $3300 plus books and supplies on top of that. Then the next course is the diploma course which is more to do with the financial aspects and how to run your own shop. It would also give me my journeyperson's status as well and is also a 36 week course and costs the same. I also looked into doing that type of course out here but they only have a 10 week course that is a introduction to mechanics which costs $3800. wink.gif So I pretty much decided that if I'm going to go for it I'm going to have to do it out there!! My parents and friends are very supportive of me moving out there and are very happy that I'm actually going for my dreams!! I'm planning on moving out there after Christmas. One of the guys that I work with that does graves as well is going to Thailand for 3 months starting in October. So I'm going to wait till he comes back before I leave so I don't leave the rest of the girls here stranded. He gets back on January 10th so I'll be leaving after that.

When I got back Jack and I worked on the car and we finally got it running!! We changed the rad but found that it was still overheating so we had to change the head gaskets and ended up getting the heads planed down as well since they were warped. It took us about 3 days to put the motor all back together and now we found out that the bottom end of the motor is going!!! wallbash.gif So Jack told me that it's not worth the money or time to do that as well and advised me to look for another vehicle. He told me to drive the car though until I can find something else and to even look for one in Saskatchewan since I'll be moving there. Then I don't need to get a vehicle inspection done on it and it'll save me a lot of money as well!!! So I have my step-dad and some friends out there keeping an eye out for my dream truck for me or even just a truck period!! biggrin.gif

So other than that I've been busy working since I got back and I'm getting ready for my trip to PEI in less than 2 weeks!! I can't wait for that trip either!! As soon as I get the pictures from Michelle I will post them for you guys to see. I think she has a couple of me and Andrew.

Well I gotta get back to work again...talk to you all soon!!!

Posted by: CelticRose 20-Aug-2005, 06:34 PM
Hey ladies! About time I got in here, eh? wow! It has been so busy for me lately. I told you all I joined a re-enactment group. We do the Jacobite 45 and RevWar periods. I have had to spend a lot of time in doing research in genealogy, clothing, language, history, manners, etc., etc. I also joined the Daughters of the American Revolution as since the public will be asking me a lot of questions, I think it would be nice to say how I have a great-grandfather who fought in the battle. I also have another great-grandfather who fought in one of the Jacobite Risings as well. So that is where I have been. I am still doing physical therapy and the therapist want to extend my therapy so we need to get doctor and insurance approval on that.

Monarch! How wonderful you and hubby and son are getting to spend quality time together. I will be sad for your next Wednesday, but sounds like he is coming right back soon! How long will he back for next time? Are you allowed to tell us what he is doing in Iraq? I mean is he on the front lines fighting?

Hey MoonChild! Well congrats on your decision! My nephew is a mechanic and he makes very good money, plus it is something he really loves doing. He works on the big diesel trucks and other big rigs. He makes about $20.00 an hour! ohmy.gif So you are moving, eh? How far is that from where you are? Did you say you have friends and family there too? Glad to hear things are going well for you and Andrew. Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Take care everyone!

Sounds like everyone has been super busy this summer! Sorry I haven't made time to chat lately...too much to do and so little time to goof off!

As for those who have family overseas in the military my son is leaving for Iraq so I'll be worrying like all the other mom's.

Hello all,

Annabelle - I will worry with you until your son returns home.

CR - my husband is not really in the frontlines fighting - at least not that I know of. He is mostly in the Dinning Facility (DFAC) and sits on the phone with me. tongue.gif

When he comes back this time - he will stay at least 6 months or longer here with me. It all depends on if they send them out again after 6 months or not.

So far we had a great time. Just the last two days were a bit boring. We had about 100 F here and with the humidity and the heat index - it felt like 105 - 110 F. So we stayed indoors most of the time, relaxing and watching DVD's and TV.

Thanks for Netflix lol! biggrin.gif

Moon Child - I think it's great to go after your dreams and I wish you the best of luck!

CR, that's great to hear about your re-enactments. Sounds like you have been really busy!!! I hope you get approval for the physio therapy. Sounds like you need it and it's really helping your back!!
I have a more definite date for as to when I'm going to be moving. I'm leaving after Michael here at work gets back from Thailand. He's soming back on January 10th so I'll be leaving after that. I'm moving to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan which is about a 7-8 hr drive from here. I'm looking forward to it, plus I grew up in Saskatchewan most of my life so it's not that new to me!! I also can't wait to start school, I really enjoy mechanics and I'm happy that I will finally have a job I truly have a passion for.

Annabelle, you and your family will be in our thoughts till your son gets home safely.

Monarch, thanks for wishing me luck. It's nice to finally be able to go for one of my dreams and actually make it happen!!
It's so exciting to hear that your hubby will be able to stay longer with you and the family the next time he comes back!!!

Well take care everyone!!

Moon Child, you go for it honey! The fella and the mechanic studies both - biggrin.gif
My daughter took Auto Tech in high school last year and wowed the instructor; he told me he wished she'd be in there every semester, and that it was his experience that girls study harder, pay attention more in class, and are more thorough with their assignments than the guys are. So as far as vehicle repairs go, maybe girls DO rule eh?

Annabelle, you keep us informed on how your boy is okay? If there is any way we can email him or his buddies occasionally to give them a little moral support, let us know how... I know the soldiers don't often have internet access, but a friend of mine's son did and that was how she kept in touch with him. I wish I could tell your son and all the others over there how much I personally appreciate them putting their lives on the line for me.

Rose, you are going to have to build another closet in your house for all those Re-enactor costumes!
wink.gif I think its neat that you're getting involved in this.

Hello Ladies,

officially "green widow" again. LOL!

Husband left on Wednesday morning. But he should be home between end of October to middle of November. So this time the waiting is not so long.

Today was my son's first day of school and I took the liberty to take a nap after he left for school. That was quite nice.

Other than that - not much news here - at least for now.

Hope everyone is doing fine.

Take care!

This morning I've noticed a definate drop in the humidity in the air; it doesn't feel quite as oppressive. Can you sense it in the air too, Monarchs? It is a bit of an encouragement to me, like a pat on the back that says "keep your chin up, autumn is on the way."

My hubby and I were talking real estate last night over dinner. Our area has changed a lot in the last 6 or 7 years, with roads widened & way too many shopping centers and housing subdivisions popping up all around us. (Rosemary, you'd be shocked to see how busy Austell Road is now, with the 4-lane East-West Connector up there near Cobb General Hospital. It looks almost like Hwy. 41!)

We wish we had a house with some land where its a bit quieter, so our daughter's horse could be at home with us... right now Glory lives about 20 minutes away, which is really 'do-able' and nothing to complain about since its FREE. (Sister-in-law has a little pasture, round pen, two-stall barn and no horse! Well gollee, we have a horse and no pasture - a match made in heaven then.)

But there probably is no move in sight. Doesn't feel right to actively pursue it right now, but we're keeping our eyes open. I've learned to be patient, but also to pay attention to signs and intuition.

Hey Monarch! Well I am sure you were sad to see hubby go off again. But great news he will be back so soon too. I bet it was hard on your son to see him go too, wasn't it? Well you have lots of books coming out and reading to catch up on now! wink.gif biggrin.gif

SB! Holy cow! so it has really grown a lot around there then? ohmy.gif It was so pretty there too. It is really a shame to see such massive growth everywhere you go cause they take out trees and all the beautiful nature with it. Then I worry about the animals too. Would be nice to be able to find a new location one day, if that is possible for y'all.

We are still very hot here. will be until October at least.

Hello,

CR - no it wasn't so bad to see my husband off. It was harder for him than for me. For me two months is nothing - but for him it seems to be a lifetime. But than again I have the nice quite life here while he is risking his over there.

It took him almost 4 days to get back to Baghdad. But now he is back "home". We talked several times on the phone already. Of course he was bored again. And we talked last night on the computer, and also this morning a little while.

But I am glad that he comes home soon. We can at least celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas this year together.

SB - I feel for you. Over here it's growing also more and more since they are planning to get more soldiers here to Ft Bragg. We got more and more houses growing and also more stores and restaurants. If we know that we are going to stay here for a longer while - we are thinking about buying a house. But so far we are not sure how much longer we will stay here in this area.

Hey Monarch! So very glad to hear from you. I am glad to hear that your DH is back in Iraq safe and sound, but more so he will be home for you during the holidays. I can't wait till all our soldiers come home. I just have to say that I hope they all come home soon and be out of there. I know not many people agree with me, but enough is enough and our part is done as far as I am concerned. I am happy to hear your DH will be coming home soon and for the holidays no less! How wonderful is that? smile.gif

Hello gal pals,

Just stopping in to say hi and to see how you are all doing!!

SB, I can understand how you feel about where you live!! Here in Calgary were nearly up to a million people and about 3 million in the whole province!! Calgary keeps on growing! It's getting to be a bit much for me as well and I look forward to moving to Saskatchewan. In Prince Albert there's only about 41,000 people which is a huge change but it's a lot quieter and I've been wanting that for quite some time now!! Good luck in your search for a new place out in the country!!

As for the girls rule...with mechanics we can definitely get our hands in more tight spots then them!! laugh.gif

Monarch, glad to hear that your hubby made it safely back to Baghdad!! Just think the next couple of months will fly by and then you'll have him back for the holidays!! Is he done his term in October or does he have to go back after the holidays??

CR, hope is all well with your back and physio!!!

I've been kind of busy since I last posted on here. I have finally talked to my boss about when I was planning on moving. My last day here at work will be around January 14th. She was happy that I gave lots of notice so they have time to hire and train someone new and I'm not leaving them stranded either. She was happy to here that I'm going back to school and has even told me that if I ever come back that I will have a job to come back to!! It was nice to hear that but I'm still not sure if I'm going to come back after I'm done school. Some of friends have told me that they think I will probally be coming back but I'm not too sure right now since I'll be out there for at least 2 yrs with school alone!! We'll just have to see I guess!!!

Things with Andrew and I are going good. We talk when ever we can but he's really busy doing harvest right now on the farm that he works on. He's planning on coming out here in November sometime after harvest to see me...I can't wait!!

Today I went to the Calgary Highland Games. It was great, I had such a good time!! My first time ever going to a highland games!! The only thing I was disappointed with was that they didn't have hagis there!! wink.gif I was looking forward to trying it!!! At the closing ceremonies they had a mass band that played together, I was blown away by the music that I nearly started to cry it was so powerful!! I can't wait for next year!!

So other than that I'm working all this next week up until Friday morning than my cousin and I leave Saturday morning for PEI!! We're both pretty excited and can't wait to go!!! Well i should get back to work I will catch up with you all later!
Take care hug.gif

Hey,

sorry I haven't been on the last few days. A bit busy.

MC - No when husband comes home in October/November it will be for good. At least until he has to go on another great tour like this. He will stay here at least for about 6 months. After that anything is possible. We could move or we could stay here and he might get deployed again.

Well, right now I am batteling with a cold - wich really makes me sleepy and just plain lazy. Hope I will be up and running on full speed in a few days.

Hope everyone else is doing better than me!

Take care of you all.

As of the moment it looks like my husband will be home before Halloween. That's good news, since we would like to drive up to Carowinds Amusement Park again and take advantage of the Halloween Party they do up there.
