Hello all. I am looking for suggestions and advice on Celtic music that may fit a waltz dance. My fiance and I are getting married May 3, 2014 at the Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games with many Scottish traditions being used. We are really wanting our first dance to be a slow waltz, but both love Celtic music so much we'd like to find a song or two that will fit the dance. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

You might consider "Come by the Hills" or "Skye Boat Song". Truthfully, most if not all of the ballads are written in the waltz time signature. The first two songs that came to mind were "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" and "Four Green Fields" but I don't really think you'd be happy using them for your first dance. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, by the way!

Natalie MacMaster & Donnell Leahy have a song called "Anniversary Waltz"

James Galway has the song "Lover's Waltz" which is American but it's beautiful.

Thanks for the suggestions! Yes, waltzing Matilda is definitely not among my favorites and the fiance wasn't too keen on it either. I'm going to give Come By the Hills a listen as it is one I haven't heard before. I'm not very good at timings for music, so really had no idea that many of the ballads were written in waltz time signature. Also, thank you for the well wishes on the upcoming nuptials. I'm super excited to have it at the festival, using many Scottish traditions, and having it as public ceremony will also be a lot of fun!

Wow! They are both such beautiful songs. Just made decision making tough. lol
Thanks for the suggestions and the links. These two are definitely in the running. Going to have our dance instructor give them a listen and get her feedback. :-)
