Hi All

Just a quick HI. I might miss this evening chat. We have had thunder storms moving in and out all afternoon and supose to continue at least till midnight so not sure if I will make it or not as don't want to risk loosing the system to lighting strike. IN fact going to get off in a minute as more moving in shortly. So if I don't make it (cry)  just a quick HI!  :)

Posted by: Macfive 31-Mar-2002, 08:29 PM
Well, I should have posted something about this, so whack me!  :O

I was at my brothers house for Easter dinner and we had such a good time that I didn't make it home until now.

Hope everyone had a good Easter!  (d)

The chat room wouldn't open for me tonight.

Posted by: Macfive 31-Mar-2002, 10:00 PM
Our chat room is a little sensitive and sometimes the third party public relay servers don't work for certain people at certain times depending where you are located.

This is unacceptable to us, so we plan on creating our own chat server for the software to interact with. This in no way changes the look or feel of the chat room, it really is the background chat services that our chat software uses.

This is on our list for April, so hopefully we will have a more reliable connection shortly! In the meantime, try changing the server from the main chat screen with the pull down menu. There are 4 servers spread across the world to choose from. Thanks for your patience!

Posted by: kylassie 01-Apr-2002, 06:53 AM
It was just us girls in the chatroom last night!  :D

You guys missed a real "hen party" - we discussed our favorite topics and swore each other to secrecy!  ;)

We have decided that might make a really interesting new chat - a "Ladies Only" Chat time....  :O

Maggiemahonie, Shortbit and I have not laughed so hard in YEARS!!!!  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

P.S. The only "male" in the room was Mr. CelticDJ who rudely interrupted our conversation every now and again with such comments as "Space Pipers are now playing" etc.

Posted by: scottish2 01-Apr-2002, 07:26 AM
Hey Hey Hey I have to stand up for us men. How do you know the Celtic DJ's MALE? Might just as easily be female with the interuptions.  :O

And good thing I sht down after posting the start post in this thread as we had some strong storms move through would most likely have fried my system had some bolts of lighting just outside over the sound. Was even scary at points as our last home did get struck with lighting did some damage but not a lot, but since then always a little afraid it will happen again.  :O

Posted by: kylassie 01-Apr-2002, 08:17 AM
Aww, Scottish2, you shouldnt take my comments too seriously! Of course, CelticDJ is only a computer program, and if you want to think of it as female a la Majel Barrett in 'Star Trek', go right ahead. I tend to think of puters and puter programs as males, a la "Hal" in 2001: A Space Odessy! My computer talks to me with a male voice whenever I am printing documents.   :p

So glad you were able to weather the storm last night.   :D

Posted by: scottish2 01-Apr-2002, 08:28 AM
Nah just fooling around I know each person has his or her own ideas od what computer persona their takes on. My sometimes takes on the persona of Doctor Jeckyll and Mr Hyde.  :p  Has a mind of it's own sometimes.  :{

Posted by: maggiemahone1 01-Apr-2002, 08:46 AM
Yes, it was quite a "hen par--tie last night! I did get the giggles, and it was VERY enlightening. :O  We did take the oath of secrecy and even if someone should try to make us talk by taking our make-up away our lips are sealed. (cry)   Seriously it was alot of fun.  You guys missed out. :D

Posted by: scottish2 01-Apr-2002, 09:14 AM
OK Paul lets go for their charge cards that will get their mouths to open.  :D  :p

Posted by: ShortBit 01-Apr-2002, 09:54 AM
I laughed until I cried!  Oh yes... a very "enlighting" evening.  Hmmmm... How much will you guys pay for the print out of this session?  After all, I am saving for my trip to Scotland..which by the way is 59 days away.  No fear Girls, I am just kidding, I am sworn to secrecy.

The Chat Room is a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other.  We had fun last night and invite everyone to join in when they can.

Posted by: Macfive 01-Apr-2002, 10:48 AM
You know, I almost think they are enjoying this! :D

I think for the next chat on 4/7 I will send a mass email out to everyone inviting them to the chat. Of course, the last time I did that my hosting provider decided to pretend that I was a spammer and removed my account!

Hey, what do you think of having topics for the chat? Maybe not every week, but perhaps the first Sunday in each month we could have a topic and also send out an invitation?

Any suggestions?

Posted by: scottish2 01-Apr-2002, 10:50 AM
I see a chink in their Armour Paul. They'll sell out to the highest bidder.  :p

Maybe I was close with taking away their charge cards  :p

Posted by: scottish2 01-Apr-2002, 10:52 AM
Hi Paul

Noted you posted during my posting. Maybe you could even set up a new night of the week for a topic chat. I think once folks see how fun the chat room can be they'll all want in on the fun. Also  a thought also with recent discussions but what about an alternate time for those on the other side of the world and also for those who can't make Sunday's chats?

Posted by: maggiemahone1 01-Apr-2002, 01:44 PM
Some people might be a little leary about getting in a chat room, I know I was.  Last night was only my 2nd time in any chatroom. So, if anyone hasn't visited the Sunday nights chats I can vouch that it was a lot of fun and you get to know your fellow celticans a little more.  ;)  ;)

Macfive, I think a topic to be discussed would be great, and Scottish2 probably a time change for the other side of the world would be welcomed.

No chink in the armour either.  Our lips are sealed.  :p  :)
Never!Never! Never! :p  :p  :p  Although we might have to watch Shortbit, since she is headed for Scotland and might just cave in for some extra SHOPPING money.

Only a roundtrip airline ticket to Glasgow will loosen my lips! (Sorry girls, but this is just toooo darn tempting!;)   :D

Posted by: scottish2 01-Apr-2002, 03:18 PM
Ah another chink in this impregnable code of silence  :p

Posted by: kylassie 01-Apr-2002, 03:28 PM
No, I can't divulge our deepest darkest most inner most secrets - after all I promised! However, for a first-class, roundtrip ticket to Glasgow, Edinburgh, or Inverness,  I MIGHT give you some clues about our party!!!  ;)

Posted by: kylassie 01-Apr-2002, 04:26 PM
BTW, Shortbit here is a website your husband might be interested in!  ;)

*By the way KY that sites good have had it on my site for sometime now is really good he has a lot of neat sporrans*

Yes he does Scottish2, but as you know all sporrans are not created equal!  :p   ;)

Don't worry Maggie & Shortbit - I won't tell!

Posted by: Macfive 01-Apr-2002, 08:12 PM
Wow, I turn around for a minute and then there are like all of these message in this topic! I really want to know what was going on last Sunday nite in the Chat room!

For this coming Sunday's chat, I'm suggesting that the topic should be "what happen at last Sunday's chat" :D

Good try. eh?  ;)

How about we talk about Tartan Day 2002, perhaps a few words about the Queen Mother?

And, just to give you a heads up, going to plan on giving away our first CD during the chat. Havn't thought about how we will do it, but will have something fun planned!

Posted by: kylassie 01-Apr-2002, 08:20 PM
Sorry, Paul, but I swore an oath on my Braveheart Video that I would never tell about last Sunday's chat! However, if you and Dave want to put your credit cards together for a round trip ticket.............. :p  :p

Posted by: maggiemahone1 01-Apr-2002, 08:38 PM
I do believe I am going to have to get out the Hush money. Kylassie, BE Strong, Girl.  Remember us girls stick together!!!

You guys will never guess!!!!

There is a site I got on where you could send e-cards with MEN IN KILTS.

I think the Queen Mum would be a good topic or Tartan Day. Maybe both.

Posted by: kylassie 01-Apr-2002, 08:49 PM
I hope that you bookmarked that site Maggie, and you will either post it here on the message board or send it to me in an email!  :D

Gosh I am trying to be strong, but you know how weak I can be when it comes to those airline tickets!  It sure beats the heck out of riding in the luggage compartment! (cry)

Posted by: kylassie 02-Apr-2002, 06:50 PM
While we are waiting for Dave and Paul to decide if our secret is worth a plane ticket or not, here is the (drumroll please.....)  :D

Men in Kilts Ecards!  :p

http://pub49.bravenet.com/postcard/post.php?usernum=4172063724&password=6cb7b2fa5eba

I don't know who looks the best in a kilt - Sean Connery  ;)  or Mel Gibson  ;)

Posted by: ShortBit 02-Apr-2002, 08:05 PM
GOOD GRIEF, I am away for 2 days and you Girls have almost sold the farm!!!!  This is top secret and in no way will the subject of Sunday's chat be divulge......UNLESS.....there are 3..yes THREE ...round trip tickets !!! Since I already have my tickets for June, can we make The Trio Trip in August? We could go to the Edinburgh Tattoo!!!

Topics are great for the chat but I agree with whoever said that perhaps they should be on another night.  I like the free wheeling of Sunday's chat...that we are not contracted into a specific topic.

Posted by: maggiemahone1 02-Apr-2002, 10:09 PM
Thanks kylassie for the direct guide to Men In Kilts.  That was one and the same I was talking about.  I might just send my sister an ecard from that site, she had back surgery a couple of weeks ago, and I am sure she might need cheering up, just what the dr. ordered. :p  :p

Shortbit,

I like your idea - we can be like the three musketteers!  :O

Okay Paul and Dave - make that THREE tickets to Scotland, and I will tell you anything you want to know ~ and probably a few things that you DONT want to hear!  ;)  :o)  I will sing like the stool pidgeon that I am!   (note)  (note)  (note)

Maggie, I am so glad I was able to find that website - I sent the Mel Gibson ecard to my friend Lisa in CA  (rose)

Posted by: scottish2 03-Apr-2002, 07:12 AM
No No No 2 airline tickets are cheaper then 3.  I say you all chip in and buy Paul & I, 2 round trip tickets then you can sing like stool pidgeons  :p

Posted by: Macfive 03-Apr-2002, 09:24 AM
Hey if someone buys me tickets to Scotland, I would throw a Kilt, jump up on a table and dance the Highlander Fling…..well, maybe I wouldn’t jump up on a table!

While I have your attention, the thought just crossed me while finishing off the next edition of our newsletter. Do you think Saturday nights at 10:00 p.m. EST would be a better time for our weekly chats? I’m wondering if we would have a bigger audience since most people are more inclined to stay up on Saturday night as opposed to Sunday night because of work on Monday? If you can let me know today. I have the newsletter readying to go and would like to mention this weekend’s chat for the two free CD giveaways. Also I plan on sending out a message to all subscribers about the chat and free CD’s the day of the chat.

Posted by: Mel 03-Apr-2002, 09:43 AM
anytime is okay for the chat.  I don't know for the others but for me anytime will be the right time

Posted by: scottish2 03-Apr-2002, 09:58 AM
Saturdays OK but 10 is just a wee bit late as I play tennis in the morning on sundays so have to get to bed a little earlier plus nothing much on Saturday night to keep me up for on TV. 9PM might be a little better for me not quite so late.

Posted by: kylassie 03-Apr-2002, 01:01 PM
Forget Satuday Night - just tell me when is Paul going to jump on the table and dance the Highland fling in his kilt!?! That might be worth staying up late for!  :O  ;)

Posted by: maggiemahone1 03-Apr-2002, 04:33 PM
Saturday night seems an ok time to chat.  It doesn't matter what time as long as it's not past midnight for me.  I'm getting old so I don't require alot of sleep.  (cry)  I babysit my granddaughter some, so I can go to bed when I want and get up when I want. :)   I'm a woman of leisure. ;)

I do believe kylassie, that we would probably be more like the 3 stooges instead of the 3 musketeers.  ;) I think Mel Gibson is great also, for a man with all those kids.  Is it 7 or 8 and I think the oldest is 21?  Wow!  I can't imagine having that many kids.  I'm looney enough as it is. :p   Of course, both of my parents came from big families, 11 children in my Mom's family and 12 in my Dad's.

That might be quite entertaing to see Paul doing the Highland fling.  He's still young enough not to throw his back out.

Don't you dare sing little birdie!!!! (note)  (note)

Three stooges is about right Maggie!  I am not sure if Scotland is ready for all three of us ladies at once or not! LOL  :D  :D  :D

Saturday evening will be fine for a chat, just tell me what time it will be and remember we will be going to Daylight Savings Time soon! My time zone is Central.

Okay, if you say I should not sing, I wont  - your secrets are still safe with me!

:O  (note)  (note)  (note)

However I never was very good at keeping secrets you know!  (cry)

Posted by: Macfive 04-Apr-2002, 07:45 PM
:)

Ok, then Saturday nite it is. How about 9:30 EST, that way people in the Midwest and west coast will not interupt their dinner hour!

I have the newsletter all completed so I will get that off on Friday mentioning the chat.

Major blow out with ISP and the site was down alot in the past 24 hours. We have now been moved to a semi-dedicated server so we should see an improvement!

Posted by: scottish2 04-Apr-2002, 08:01 PM
I guess 9:30 will be OK with me.

Posted by: Cabbagehome 05-Apr-2002, 06:55 AM
:p Chat  Saturday and Sunday night at 9 pm EST. Right?  Sounds great.  What about weekday morning?
(b) for Paul when he gets on table to dance in his kilt.  Lot of cameras needed to get all the little tricky movements, at several angles.

Just wanted to post a note that the CD give-away is going to be next weekend. Had some issues with our ISP that prevented me from getting the newsletter out. But will plan on being there tonight!

Sorry I wasn't in on the chat last night - we celbrated Tartan Day with a nice dinner out, listening to bagpipe music, and visiting with our Celtic friends. I just went to the chatboard a moment ago - at first CelticDJ refused to allow me entrance - it disconnected me several times ... something about the server being full... and then when it DID let me in - no one was there! (cry)

Nae worries, I will try again in an hour or so!  :D

Hi Ky!

We had a quick chat last night, about a half hour. Dave and I tried, but failed, to find out about last weeks chat, so we went home disappointed and discouraged. Although we are actively thinking of some means or way to get the information outta you all! :D

I'm going to look at those chat room servers this week!

Posted by: kylassie 07-Apr-2002, 07:16 PM
So I take it that you didn't dance in your kilt last night?  ;)

Posted by: Cabbagehome 08-Apr-2002, 05:29 AM
(cry) I didn't get to go to this weekend. We went to he McDonalds' for Tartan Day, had family supper and a movie.
Sunday, Jolly Green had control of only computer on line.   :O 1/2 hour? Guess I did not miss much.

Posted by: Aon_Daonna 12-Apr-2002, 11:13 AM

Last summer I had the opportunity to go to real scottish wedding in northern ireland :) and I saw my boyfriend dance in his kilt... *sighs*
It looks soooooo marvellous when it swings.....  :D

I have finally talked my husband into wearing a tartan tie - now he is "considering" wearing a kilt.  :O  However the outfit he has decided to wear costs $1000+ !!! Any sugestions for cutting the cost???   (cry)

Posted by: scottish2 13-Apr-2002, 10:36 AM
Do you have a full description of the entire outfit? No way to help if we don't know what type of outfit he's looking for. You could also check my shopping page on the site a lot of possible options there.

Be warned though buy it state side and mark up is usually a lot from what I have seen and buy it direct from Scotland and end up paying a good size customes tax so be aware of both these when shopping.

Posted by: Aon_Daonna 13-Apr-2002, 10:49 AM
complete highland outfits are quite expensive, even in scotland. I've been searching for a sgian dhu for my boyfriend last christmas and I just typed my request into google which came up with a lot of good results.
It depends on what you are searching for.
here are a few sites for online order:
http://www.kilt-shop-scotland.com/
http://www.classickilts.com/
http://www.scotlandgifts.com/index.htm

good luck in your search.

Posted by: scottish2 13-Apr-2002, 11:08 AM
Another possibility is http://www.shopscotland.com Not sure how much he deals with kilts and outfits and such but found him to be fairly good pricing wise awhile back when I was looking for some Tartan Material to use in a Clan Plaque I did for a close Scottish friend of mine. Ended up using two different Tartan Scarves which did the trick perfectly as the regular material was about $60 a yard at a lot of the places I looked. But try the site above you might get lucky.

Posted by: kylassie 13-Apr-2002, 12:14 PM
Thanks Scottish2 and Aon! I think maybe my husband is just pulling my leg?! He knows how "cheap" I am, and if he asks for an expensive outfit, then perhaps I will let him be! He has been quite adamant up untill now about NOT wearing the kilt! :p

Posted by: Falachaidh 15-Apr-2002, 10:19 AM
You can also try the highland dancing supply stores. I got a great deal on my kilt almost 4 years ago.. $22/yard -4 yards-double width. it was on special due to xmas holidays. they had a surplus in my tartan (cunningham-royal). then I had a lady (dance mum) make it for me. I think that total cost was under $200.
my best friend is getting married this year and purchased a kilt, long plaid, and a few other accessories which came to over $500 plus he had to pay $91 in customs tax.
i purchased my material through tartan town -they're on the web somewhere *.com i think- normally their prices are around $45/yard.
i know any sort of jacket like the prince charlie is quite expensive no matter where you look. i'm just glad i'm not a male dancer.
good luck...and if you know what he's "looking" for, let us know. we'll go on a manhunt for the best price!

ps- i've seen those tactics before.. don't let them sway you.. get it for him anyways.. xmas maybe? *teehee*
