Hi Paul,
thanks so much for very kind words !
I've had an interesting weekend taking part in the St Andrews day celebrations in Princes St Gardens in Edinburgh where we performed a mini version of "Clarinda - The Musical".
I was also featured in the very spectacular "Son et Lumiere" show in St Andrews itself where my version of "Ae Fond Kiss" accompanied the section on Robert Burns .. I have to say I was quite proud of that
Best Wishes Kevin |

Hi Paul,
Many thanks for your lovely comments. I've always intended to record a version of "Auld Lang Syne " that I felt did justice to the spirit of deep and lasting friendship expressed in words of the song. I felt the song needed to be powerful and uplifting, a song which helped forge new friendships as well as reinforcing existing ones....... and all over a good drink too . I hope I've managed to capture some of those feelings in my version.
I will of course be very interested to hear what everyone thinks

Hi Lynda,
thank yo so much for your very kind review of "Clarinda's Reply" It's always nice to know what people think of all of my hard work
I thought I'd take this opportunity to update everyone at CR with my latest news, I hope that's ok.
I've been working on a number of projects over the last while, the first being a musical play based on the life of "Clarinda" (Nancy McLehose). It's almost complete now and as Lynda mentioned the songs were showcased at the "Burns an A' That" festival in Ayr at the end of May. We were all really pleased at how well the songs were received, and I now have a webitse up and running at www.clarindathemusical.com if anyone would like to hear some of the songs and see some of the photo's of me in eighteenth century costume .. you must promise not to laugh though
I've also been asked to provide the music for another musical play "Sunday Mornings on Dundee Law" which is set in Dundee at the end of WW2. Quite a departure for me musically as some will need to be Big Band stlye .. ala Glenn Miller .. but I love a challenge ..I also love the coincidence that Glen Miller was born in Clarinda, Iowa .. I was amazed when I read that
I have some live events coming up soon too, firstly as part of the Brechin Arts Festival on 24th September, where I'll be doing a show with some friends. I'll also be appearing during the open mic sessions as part of Dougie MacLean's Perthshire Amber weekend at the end of October.
Last but not least, I'm also working on songs for a new album, which I hope will be out early next year. This will include my versions of some classic scottish songs as well as some new pieces I'm writing now. If Macgive agrees, I'll see if I can provide you all with a taste of how the album will sound in a few weeks.
Best Wishes. Kevin |

I just wanted to thank everyone at CelticRadio and beyond for all of the support and good wishes you've given to me and "Clarinda's Reply" over the last few months. It really has been appreciated.
The community here at CelticRadio is one of the warmest and most welcoming I've ever encountered, and of course has, by far, the best taste in music
Wishing you all a wonderful festive season and joy and happiness in the New Year.

Hi Amy,
The Gael is an original instrumental composed by Dougie for his album "The Search" a far as I know. It's quite a gentle little tune really .. but you can hear all the elements that ended up in the film version.

Hi Amy and all,
thanks for that ... and yes .. I am now thinking about recording a collection of "unplugged" songs. It's on my ever growing list of things to do What I'm thinking of is an album of 10-12 songs, some traditional, some not so traditional, some new and maybe some which are new arrangements of my existing songs. The live version of "The Red Rose of Strathmore" with acoustic guitar is VERY different from the version on "Clarinda's Reply" but I hope just as nice
I'll be sure to keep you posted !
Regards Kevin |

Hi Rindy and Everyone
well I did my short set at Dougie MacLeans Perthshire Amber weekend along with a few others who came along to do an open mic spot and it was really enjoyable.
I did new versions of "The Red Rose of Strathmore" , "Ae Fond Kiss" , "Clarinda's Reply" and a new song Called "Another Time, Another Place". They were all just me and an acoustic guitar .. so totally different from those on the album but they all seemed to be well received.
I'm getting a taste for performing live now ! Must get more gigs !
Regards Kevin |

Hi All,
I just wanted to share something with you all that has given me a lot of pleasure over the past while.
You may know that I have dogs and occasionally, when we're away, put them into a kennels near Dundee.
Adam and Eileen who own the kennel have several dogs too and when one of them had pups asked if they could name one "Clarinda's Reply". I was of course delighted with this
For anyone interested to see there are pictures of the puppy (a golden labrador) on the pictures page of my website at www.clarindasreply.co.uk
Please feel free to have a look
She's called "Molly" for short and has now found a new home and a new best friend .. as you'll see from the pics

Hi Rindy and Everyone !
yes the Dougie MacLean weekend is a week today. As it'll just be me and an acoustic guitar I've been busy re-arraging some of the tracks on "Clarinda's Reply" as "unplugged"versions which has been good fun and a challenge. I've also just finished the music for a short film which was premiered in Dundee on Friday .. so been busy
I'm also hoping to give a new song it's first airing at the Dougie MacLean gig, if I get the chance and more importantly, if I finish writing it !
I've got another piece of news about "Clarinda's Reply" too but will put that in a new post I think
Take Care Kevin |

Thanks Stoirmeil
I'm glad you like it.
It's now exactly the time of year that I wrote about in "Shades of Gold and Crimson". The colours on the hills are very spectacular here in Scotland at the moment.
I tried to capture that in the both the words and the music for the song.

Hi Amy,
the theme from Last of the Mohicans was based on Dougie MacLeans track "The Gael" which is on his album "The Search"
The film version is quite a lot different from the original .. it's much more "epic" but I like both in their way. The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards pipe version is very different again but is pretty spectacular sounding too !

Hi Rindy,
thanks so much .. it's really lovely to know that you're enjoying "Clarinda's Reply".
I'm actually working on songs and tunes for my new album at the moment and hope to have it completed for around the middle of next year.
However, I do hope to have some tracks ready to listen to well before that and will figure out a way to make them available to listen to. They should be done just after Xmas.
I'd certainly value your opinion.
Regards Kevin

Hi Amy,
my favourite ever Dougie MacLean song is "This Love Will Carry" from his "Singing Land" album. So I'd recommend that one for sure. The song "Singing Land" is lovely too.
You can hear extracts from pretty much all of his songs at his online shop at www.dougiemaclean.com but you probably know that already
Hope this helps a little.
Regards Kevin |
