DUD YOU FEEL THE EARTH QUAKE?

At 5:30 this morning I was setting up in bed when I felt my bed move ,then 3 more times. At frist I thoughtsomeone had put something in the washer and it was spinning out but when it did it again I just said earth quake LOL.It wouldn't of been that funny but I live in Michigan. Well the news said yes it was,so I was woundering if anyone eles felt it and what did you think?

There is a major fault line running along the East Indiana State line and extends into Michigan. I think it goes south into Louisiana. The last major quake on this fault changed the course of the Mississippi river. It created what we call a "honeycomb" soil pattern where I live in Ohio It consists of cells of sand separated on all sides by narrow walls of clay soil. The quake caused the sand to liquify and pile on the surface like "bee-hives" They have long ago washed away but the soil pattern remains. In a wet year, the sand develops the consistency of quicksand. I am probably one of the few here who carries earth-quake insurance. (Home owners does not cover earth-quakes unless you have the policy rider)

This is the second one I've felt.The last one was sometime in the 80's.It turned my TV screen a real pretty green.My daughter who was about 13 years old really didn't care for that it moved her bed while she was on it. She wanted to move somewhere else.

Oh my! So feel for you all in the midwest. I grew up with earthquakes most my life being born and raised and living in CA. Hope it didn't scare you all too much. I know it always did me when one occured. Hope all is okay!

I knew nothing about it. My mom said she felt it this morning. Also said some people had it rattling stuff on the walls and such too. Apparently it woke my sister up. I was fast asleep and fairly isolated from the floor, so I didn't feel it or know anything about it until my folks were talking about feeling it just a bit ago.

Doesn't freak me out, but hey! We don't tend to get quakes around here! Although they say we're due for one a bit closer to home.

Some folks in Georgia felt the quake. But I didn't. How about the other Georgia girls?

Didn't get anything in the U.P. of Michigan. Although I may have slept through it or perhaps I thought it was the dogs trying to get back up into the bed.

I saw pics. yesterday of taller buildings in Kentucky and Southern Illinois that received extensive damage. We have no tall buildings here and I slept through it.

I have a collection of replica antique fire equipment on a wall shelf behind my sofa. Yesterday evening I noticed that all but one were gone. They were on the floor behind the couch. It had to be the Earth Quake as this never happened before.

I read more the other day. It happened within a group of intersecting faults known as the New Madrid Faults. It explains the distance between areas of damage. The biggest quake in the US happened within these faults in late 1811 with after shocks into early 1812.
