Any minute now, I should be sitting down to a dinner of Italian sausages on a bun and Van Camp's Pork & Beans with bits of bacon in it. Barbecue sauce to top off my sausages too . Of course, I gotta wash it down with a beer . Gotta be MGD, though. No Corona in the house . |

Mmmm. Chicken breasts marinated in Italian marinade cooked on the grill, with a side of Jalapeno Jack Pasta (made by Lipton). Maybe some canned veggies, too. |

Tonight was boneless pork chops off of the grill with meduim stuffed mushrooms and parmesan cheese and a salad with basalmic vinnegar and olive oil and a nice cold beer. |

O'siyo, Tonight, supper consisted of Lemon Boy Garden fresh tomatoes cut in halves tpped with fresh Monteray and Colby cheese with onion chives and fresh ground pepper broiled just long enough to melt the cheese...topped off with extra virgin olive oil with fresh garlic. I had Campbell's Bean Soup and a toasted cheese sandwich. Decaff coffee. Trying to watch my calories and fat intake. Yesterday I pigged out and had deep fried shrimp, baked potato and garden salad. Today I have been a good girl! maggiemahone1 |

If I'm lucky tonight we'll have chicken in olive oil with Italian seasoning and fresh steamed veg's. . . . but that depends on if my nephew's wife has her baby today or not...already been to the hospital this morning as he called and asked me to come so I went. She is about 6 wks premature so going to be a small baby but they moved her up to Macon Neo center in case when she does finally have the baby she will be in the right place upon delivery...so not sure I'm going to get to eat this but it will be made early just in case. If not I'll live off of a Diet Coke and Atkins bar instead. Annabelle |

Tonight: Baked tilapia (that's a fish! ) with Parmesan cheese and steamed veggies of some sort. Last night: scrambled egg sandwich with Buffalo wing sauce mixed in the eggs. |

I had dinner and several hours of pleasant conversation with mom. Baked lemon chicken, Yellow squash sauteed with diced tomatoes, eggplant, onions and garlic. Mom made the chicken, I made the squash. I learned a lot about my dad's family tonight. |

One of the local supermarkets has a special on Fridays and Saturdays. $4.99 for a large, one topping pizza, so I think we may do that. It's good pizza too. I've been known to stop in and get a slice for lunch. |

I'm on my own for dinner tonight, so it'll probably be frozen pizza (one of the local chain supermarkets has excellent frozen pizzas ) and a couple of beers, most likely MGD. No Corona or Leinenkugel's in the house . |

One of my fav sandwiches is peanut butter and banana sandwiches on wheat. Yummy! This evening I had a grilled chicken sandwich with tomato and lettuce. I splurged and stopped at Dairy Queen for a vanilla ice cream cone dipped in chocolate. That has been my only treat for this week. maggiemahone1 |

Tonight Shan and I went over to 2 friends hose and had some fried onion then a pesto with fresh basil over pasta and fried and battered eggpant cut like french fries and several glasses of wine then a fun game of cranium (a strange but fun board game) |

Tonight I ate at my in-laws grilled hamburgers my father-in-law made potato salad and baked beans, part of the problem is that the burgers were 90% lean meat and you just cannot make a good burger on the grill unless it is fatty because the juices drip out and the burger doesn't seer as well as a solid piece of meat (learned that from the "Joy of Cooking" perhaps the most all inclusive cookbook of all time.) the other problem is that Terry (F-I-L) is sure he is from the long lost Alabama Cajun settlement he blackens everything (icecream, water, etc...) and over spices it too. I hate to tell him when the food isn't so good because it really hurts his feelings and he really is a good guy. But the beer was cold and the company was good so a very good meal all in all |

I'm thinking about going to a restaurant that is very popular with the locals in my neighborhood. You can get a tasty burger with either grilled or raw onions (I like 'em grilled), crisp fries with a nice golden color, and quite possibly the best chocolate milkshakes/malts you'll ever have. I also like it because A] it's a five minute walk from my house, and B] they toast their hamburger buns. |

You have to do the dishes though! ~kiddin'~ ~~Pssssstttttt: just a little note to ya..you could probably make pasta, suntea and a nice salad for a lot less money than you spent on that pizza Pasta is relatively cheap, and in hard times, it doesn't need a sauce..how about some butter? And tea-bags, I can get over 200 in a box for less than $2..and spinach leaves or the lettuce of your choice? I would gamble to say that you could purchase it for less than $3..and if you have to have sauce, a jar of Ragu you can get for under $2..not to bad eh? Meals can really be made for cheap and taste a heck of a lot better than fast food and are much healthier I can relate to the 'poor-college' student as well for I spent more than my share of years in college ~Sty-U, eat healthy and be happy! |

Thin crust sausage pizza & Miller Lite. (getting up on the nearest soapbox) I really, really, really hate it when the network shows, like The Today Show, Leno, Letterman, etc., come to Chicago. Chicago has some of the finest dining establishments in the world. They make it seem like all we eat is deep dish pizza (I prefer thin crust), cheesecake (I've never seen what people see in that), and roast beef sandwiches from a place called Mr. Beef (If I want a good roast beef sandwich, I'll go to either a local place by my house or one of the hyperlinks in my signature called The Patio). (getting down off of the soapbox now) |

I had a fish dinner from Long John Silver's. I really don't like fish, but if you cover it with enough ketchup (which should be in a food group all its own entitled "staples of life!") its actually quite palatable! I've actually had friends say to me, "Would you like a little fish with your ketchup?" Quite literally, you can't see the fish for the mound of ketchup on my plate! But, hey, that's the way I like it! What can I say? |

I grew up in the southern tip of Illinois. When I tell people I am from Il. they always ask what part of Chicago....*sighs* Anyway, isn't it a shame? Some of the best steakhouses I have ever been to were in Chicago. Can't remember naes, just that there was soooo many good resturants that is was hard to choose. As for me, tonight I dine on baked chicken and corn on the cob........ |

Actually, when I'm out of town and tell people I'm from Chicago, I get either "do you know so-and-so? They live in Chicago" or "what suburb do you live in?" My two stock answers are "no, I don't know that person" (while thinking "there's over a million people living in the Chicago metro area, so the chances of me knowing that person are slim, dumbass") and "no, I actually live within the Chicago city limits". I'm guessing you grew up near either Cairo or Metropolis. |

Decided to get a bit creative tonight myself....Chicken breasts stuffed with Monterey Jack cheese, serrano peppers, lime zest, bacon, and fresh parsley. Add to that stuffed Portubella mushroom caps, and Proscuitto wrapped figs all done over the grill. Going to school for culinary arts sure does widen the pallete to new things. Normally, I'm a hamburger & fries kinda guy but I decided to get the family to eat something different. Gordon |

I had spaghetti with garlic bread.... with a side of mustard greens... yeah, I know, but I just LOVE greens, and my wife hates them and NEVER fixes them for me. Her aunt had some and I have to take them when I can get them! It wasn't as bad as it sounds! Honest! |

Annabelle, Cooking the figs on the grill really didn't change the flavor that much. The sweetness was somewhat lessened by the prosciutto but in a whole, it was very pleasant in flavoring. I normally find figs to be somewhat overpowering in sweetness. I tend to use them exclusively for a part of my iguana's diet but after sampling the wrapped and grilled figs at Central Market in Dallas, I decided to give it a shot. Cooking isn't all that long. Just long enough to cook the prosciutto, about 3-4 minutes. Give it a shot, it's a real treat. Gordon |

It's my friend's b-day today so for dinner tonight we are going to Applebees!!! Yay! I am going to order the two-for-all plate, it will consist of french fries, two peices of chicken, and steak (medium rare of course) and a mucho-mudslide! MMMmmmm....... |

Yum, All that good food makes me very hungry... My daughter is making some tacos for us tonight. I've had a quiet day off... was going to work on my bills and some other paperwork, but have been tooling around here all day... I've enjoyed it though.. There is a good short story in one of the forums (Celtic Hearts? I think)... Better than the Hobbit, etc... that's for sure...(i hope no one is offended on that ) Anyway, if you have a chance go by there and add a line.. It's fun. It was just me and my mom for dinner tonight, so it was fast food for us. She didn't want McDonald's and I didn't want Taco Bell. Luckily, the nearest ones of these franchises are right across the street from each other. She had a Nacho Bell Grande, and I had a Quarter Pounder with Cheese and a medium order of french fries. I remember when McDonald's used to be at the end of my block. The current one on the main street through my neighborhood replaced the old one. Where the old one was is now a parking lot for Borders bookstore. I still miss that smell we'd get when they'd drop the fries into the deep fryer . |

We had, well, I'm not really sure what to call it beyond Mexican Lasagna. Corn tortillas replace the noodles, we use some taco meat instead of Italian sausage and then add diced tomatoes, black beans and whole kernal corn. Layer like a regular lasagna and use plenty of cheese and top with olives. Pop it in the oven until the cheese melts. DE-lish-us. |

We found a new family owned restaurant a few weeks ago and it has become our Sunday dining place. This evening I had fish baked with lemon and pepper, country fries, green beans, cole slaw and a yummy dessert called oreo delight. |

Tonight will be potatoes Anna with fresh dill, roasted shallot/garlic compound butter, roasted red bell pepper, sea salt, fresh thyme, and sauteed shitake mushrooms. Might just have to top that with either a pinta sauce or a fresh horseradish sauce although I haven't quite decided. Gotta love Culinary Arts school. I ended up working too long today so I'll have to make my lasagne tomorrow. Instead I went with a dressed up version of beanie weenies (add a can of diced tomatoes and black beans to the usual ingredients). I'll probably cook some corn or broccoli to go with it. Tonight we had breaded pork cutlets, done in the pan and then put into a casserole, covered with a sauce made of onions, mushrooms, spices and cream; baked in the oven for another 15 - 20 minutes. We had it with Frech Fries and a mixed salad, but it's also very yummy served with rice, tagliatelle or fresh white bred... |

Just returned from a eatery in Harrisburg called the "Elephant and Castle". English style pub... it was good eating. I had a Grand Roast Beef Dip and chips ( english style). My wife had a Portobello mushroom salad. We had lots of good Scottish ale and a good size shot of single malt Scotch. |

2night I am having my Favorite: Three-Cheese Tortellini 1 pkg. (7oz) dried cheese-filled tortellini (I use lots of frozen) 1/4c. butter 1 small green bell pepper, chop 2 shallots, chop 1 clove garlic, chop 1/4c. flour 1/4t. pepper 1 3/4c. milk 1/2c. shredded mozzarella cheese 1/2c. shredded Swiss cheese 1/4c. grated Parmesan cheese Cook tortellini as directed on package. (Can also use frozen) Drain. Heat butter in 3-qt. saucepan over medium-high heat. Cook pepper, shallots and garlic in butter about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in flour and pepper. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mix is bubbly; remove from heat. Stir in milk. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute; remove from heat. Stir in mozzarella and Swiss cheese until melted. Add tortellini; stir until coated. Sprinkle with Parmesan. (I have left out the shallots and it tastes good) |

Gulash (sp?) , really hot with red pepper, and homemade "Semmelknoedel" (dumplings made of a mass of whitebread cubes, milk, salt, pepper, glaced onions , French herbs, one egg and a bit of flour; rolled to dumplings and cooked in boiling water for about 20 - 30 minutes), served with a cucumber salad. Dinner tonight is the last thing on my mind (last night maybe.) I've lost track of time since I just arrived home from starting work Friday afternoon at 2pm and it is now 9:10 pm Saturday. I spent the time cooking for over 50,000 hungry Breeder's Cup attendees and other staff at the Lone Star Race Track in Grand Prairie, Tx. I must admit it was one heck of an experience and, being a student chef, will make the resume that much better once I graduate since I was one of 6 student chef's that were personally chosen by Executive Chef Jake Duplantis to work side by side in the main kitchen with some of his top Sous Chefs. Also, at 200 bucks a day, I can't complain about the money. 1000 dollars after a 5 day work week is nice, especially sinc 3 of those days were only 5 hours each. All other volunteer students were paid 8 an hour for only a 2 day work week of no more than 10 hours a day and they all worked as servers on buffet lines. |

Today we are trying ground buffolo. This is something new for the family. My son is excited. My youngest daughter is willing to try. So it is a go with the meat. I myself have never tried it but having spent part of my life in Alaska I have ate my share of moose, and I've been given by other family members elk, deer, and carabou. My kids wouldn't touch those meat, but I got the buffolo meat from the local Krogers so to them that means it is okay to eat. Along with the meat I'll have green bean, salad, and rice. |

Hi there gwenlee, The only way I can discribe buffalo is it has a twangy taste. Out of all the wild meats I prefer Elk. I do not like antelope, moose and deer is ok. I didn't like Bighorn sheep either. Let me know what you think... |

Buffalo tastes much like beef, only less fat so it must be cooked accordingly. Do not cook it dry or no one in your house will ever eat it again! It also should be medium rare or it becomes tough. Buffalo and venison are 2 of the healthiest meats you can eat due to the low fat content. |

My family liked the buffalo meat. There was no left overs. I season it much like beef and cooked it on my George Foreman grille. There was almost no fat drippings. I was surprised that my kids ate the meat because I have never been able to get them to eat any meats but beef and chicken. I'm going to try to get them to eat lamb. It funny they won't try lamb but my youngest daughter can't wait to try Haggis next month at the Burns dinner we are going to-go figure I told her she can have my portion. I'm going to have the vegetarian haggis, which my son says is not haggis, his comment to vegetarian haggis is mom its not right its just wrong! |

Hi Rindy 1202 There are several good recipes for vegetarian haggis in fact I thought I saw one on this site, anyway some the ingredients are potatoes, oats, nuts, onion, mushrooms, carrots, kidney beans, seasonings and sometimes whiskey.
