| FROM HIGHLAND CRAGS, WHERE MIST CLINGS COLD, ALONG THE BANKS OF PEAT DARK LOCHS, ACROSS THE FLOORS OF DEEP GREEN GLENS TO THISTLE,PINE AND HEATHER WILD FROM ISLAND, WHERE THE OCEAN KNAWS, FOREVER HUNGRY AT THE SHORES THE ECHO OF THE PIPES REBOUND FROM GLEN TO GLEN, AND SOUTHWARD DOWN, CROSS FIRTHS AND BURNS AND LOWLAND TOWNS, FOREVER SOUTH CROSS BORDER GROUND THIS SKIRL WAS HEARD, IN DAYS LONG GONE, TO CHILL THE BLOOD, AND WEAKEN BONE, THE CALLING OF THE CLANS IT HEEDS, THE WARRIORS BOLD OF OFT SUNG DEEDS, OF WALLACE,BRUCE,AYE CHARLIE TOO ALL SCOTTISH HEROE BOLD AND TRUE,WHO STOOD AGAINST THE ENGLISH MIGHT, UNTIL THAT DAY WHEN REDCOATS CAME AND MUSKET FOUGHT "GAINST SWORD AND TARGE TO STREW OUR DEAD ON CULLODEN FIELD REBELLION DEAD, THE BLACK WATCH LOOS'D TO KEEP CONTROL IN ENGLISH HANDS, NO KILT NOR PIPES ON PAIN OF DEATH THE CROFTS ARE BURNT, OUR LANGUAGE BANNED BUT THROUGH IT ALL WE SCOTS SURVIVE, TO KEEP OUR CELTIC SOUL ALIVE TWO HUNDRED YEARS,AND SIXTY MORE, IN QUIET ANGER WE HAVE BORE THE WEIGHT OF ENGLANDS' HAND. |

| 31/01/08. chrisnrachal; It is but one of hundreds of poems I have written over the years. 99% of which get filed under "G" for garbage.If you like I can post a few more but I have only kept a 1/2 dozen of them. I write mainly for my own pleasure. Camac. |

| 01/02/08 Rindy; I thank you for your comments,most kind of you. I write mainly for my own pleasure and being an old soldier and a decendent of a long line of warriors my inspration comes partly from that. I have 3 great loves, my daughters, Canada, and Scotland. I am sorry to say that I have only six poems that I have kept and I will post 5 of them. I hesitate to post the 6th as it might be offensive to some. It questions God and religion. the posted below I wrote a few years ago shortly after Canada brought home its Unknow Soldier from the 1st war. On Headstone Grey, The words Do Say "Unknown But to God", But Not So Are These Words Scribe Here For I Am Known Unto Thee Your Father,Son, or Mate Was I Who Answered To My Duty Call And Paid The Price, That Was My fate In Air, On Land, Or Ocean Deep I Was My Countrys' Young And Best The Fight For Freedom Was My Quest And Now I Lay In Foreign Soil An Unnamed Grave My Place Of Rest Look Now Upon This Stone Of Grey Remember Me From Bygone Days For "Known Unto God", Am I Now Known Unto Thee. | himself; Every Sunday morning at 11:00 am on CPAC (Canadian Parliamentary Access Channel) I watch Question Period from the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood and some of the people there speak almost like I wrote that add. I also have gotten the impression that there are a fair amount of Anglophiles in the house. Must be Lowlanders. Camac. |

| himself; Its a guid thin' I've go ma Scots tae English dictionary. For years when ever my folks a had a party and my Mom and her Sisters got to drinking a wee bit the brogue got so thick my Dad and I would leave the room because we couldn't understand a thing that was being said. You know Colin I really miss it sometimes for there is nothing like the lilt of the Scottish language. Camac. |
