My Avatar picture is a symbolic gesture to show support for the Flood victims in Ireland and the UK!

A little Trivia:

Candle in the Window

Especially in pioneer days when neighbors were so far apart and people
traveled in desolate country sides some people would put a candle in
the window as a beacon for a weary traveler or, if they were expecting
guests. It was a welcoming gesture and, during heavy storms saved many
a people's lives.
During wars times (not done much at all now) mothers or wives
would point to the candle in the window before their son or husband
went to war and assured them it would be lit every night waiting for
him to come home safe and sound. It was to show him he was much loved
and not forgotten.

Not only was the candle a symbolic reminder about our family members
being away from home buy it was also meant as a way to guide that
person back to their home where they knew there would be a warm welcome
with a healthy meal and a warm bed. In Ireland during the war there was
another tradition that placed a candle in a building where a religious
sermon would be spoken. Even in early America during the colonial times
a window candle in a home meant some special occasion was happening or
about to such as a birthday. Still today local businesses will have
some sort of candle in their windows, particularly at Christmas time.

County Cork has been hit very hard! One of our friends here on Celtic Radio is the Irish musician and producer Skully. His album IRISH MAKEOVER is featured in the August Celtic Radio newsletter!
My thoughts are with Skully and all the flood victims in Ireland and the UK!

May the candle burn until everyone is dry, safe and sound!

What a wonderful idea, McBerry. We have had "burning candles in windows" for special events in our family. My thoughts and prayers going out to all that are dealing with this in Ireland. Hopefully this will pass quickly.

Good Day My CelticRadio.net friends and Skully "Irish Makeover" fans.
I have changed my avatar to candles and an angel waiting on the moon.
I have two candles burning at home in my east-facing windows {towards Ireland} for Skully, his family and all of those folks who have been affected by the devastating flooding in Ireland and UK.

I am waiting vigil in prayer for their safety.

Warm & fuzzy hugs,
Pam
