Long time no see.
Recently I listen to Iain Anderson from BBC Radio Scotland, perhaps Paul can get some good choice, and capture Celtic Zone (it's not easy to cap, because it depends on the stream control, I am unable to cap if the stream goes to BBC 5).
Back to topic, I spend most of the time to shop Celtic and Folk at amazon.com and CDbaby.
J&R (jandr.com) also has a Celtic kiosk, though the selection is not that much.

I'd give these options
1. 128kbps mp3 (for broadband, including EV-DO and HSDPA)
2. 64kbps mp3 (FM quality, for EDGE, 1XRTT, ISDN, UMTS)
3. 32kbps aac+ (for dial-up and GPRS)

who likes their products?
heard "Donal Agus Morag" on Thistle and Shamrock, I was so stunned by that beautiful female voice
check NPR site for the playlist, found it's Altan
then I started to hunt, and play some samples
found "Wind and Rain", I can't help myself, spent money to buy 2CDs without think twice
Local Ground
Harvest Strom

they sound very good, play on my pda (as mp3 player) 2-3 times a week, love the female voice

QUOTE (TandVh @ 28-Jul-2007, 05:54 PM)
I was wondering what the pro's and con's of purchasing music off the internet might be and what our knowledgeable group here has experienced as far as buying music online?
I have been wanting to get the Albannach CD's as the online radio on thier site has some really nice samples of their songs. I deliberated about it for awhile- tried searching Amazon to no avail and then realized I could order from their site and pay via paypal. I also noticed on their site that I could purchase the cd as a digital download for $5 less than the actual CD.
(they also have a cd only option and a cd and download combo.)
Well, I got to thinking- if I buy the CD, I will end up having to rip it to my computer and convert to MP3 in order to put the music on my mp3 player. Why not buy the digital download and already have it avialable as MP3's?
I bought the download version and was quite happy with it. Happy enough to go back and buy their second cd as a download as well. I got them for $5 less than the cd price, didn't have to wait for delivery, and they're in mp3 format already.
Anybody else have an opinion about this? I know I miss the artwork on the CD's, but, I can live with that.

I am kinda traditional/old school
I always prefer CD format, and rip to ogg vorbis format (better fidelity) or mp3 VBR
you'll have total control of ripping quality
I still don't trust buy music file
with CD, you can store the tracks to as many player/computer as you want, no worrying of losing

got the CD today
sound is a lot different than the previous 2 from Sony (Stamping Ground, In Search for Angels), the CD is more pop-rock like
some used to be the regular Runrig music style needs to accept the "new" sound
but it actually sounds good for me

something you need to realize
NPR is also threatened, and the foreign radios may get affected too
if so, they may boycott all American music, then RIAA and US record industry will be a big loser

this is pretty important to "export" music to the world
royalty increase only brings multi-loss, and we (Americans) can only listen webcast from overseas, not US
it is also not good for record industry
we need to learn from Chinese Proverb
Greediness leads to Proverty (in Chinese, Greediness and Poverty looks alike in shape)

this is a shame that US record industry is way too greedy
netradios are not as many as foreign countries
I can listen radio stations (traditional/net only) from UK/Scotland/Ireland/Hong Kong easier than US stations
this is bad to output US information and culture

now, you can listen Highlander Radio on your favorite MS smartphones (T-Mobile US SDA, Cingular 2125, I-Mate SP5/m, Qtek 8300/8310)
here is your requirement
1. unlimited GPRS service (EDGE is preferred)
2. dl'ed Highlander m3u file
3. 2.5mm male to 3.5mm female stereo plug adaptor
4. your phone is properly configured for GPRS service (full internet)
5. TCPMP

before opening the m3u file, you need to open up internet connection (just open any web site with pocket IE)
happily, I have almost no interruption 64k stream with EDGE connection with my T-Mobile SDA
