The Dublin Irish Festival is something that is local to my area, so of course I tend to be bias, but it is one of the best festivals I have ever attended. The amount and music and traditional dance is overwhelming! Five stages going at the same time all day and into the night for three days. Its a lot of fun and worth checking out! They are currently working on their 2009 website, however, there are links to their myspace and flickr for some pics and info.

They also broke the world jigging record, twice! Fortunately I was there for round two. I'm not sure I've ever laughed so hard!

The city of Dublin itself is actually quite quaint and they have tried to go for that "Irish feeling" in the center of "Old Dublin" There are quite a few nice pubs in the area as well, both Irish and Scottish.

I went there and competed in the Adult Irish Dance competition about 3 years ago. I had a great time, and I liked how they made the adult competition into an event for that Friday evening for anyone to go and see. Unfortunately, I had my father there, and he's not much into partying, so I wasn't able to stick around and enjoy the bands afterwards. angel_not.gif

I've been to the Dublin Irish Festival a couple of times too. Its local for me too, but I can't get the rest of the family to go with me, so I have not been there for a couple of years. But it was a great time!

I had to look for that on the map and your only 3 hours and 54 mins away, and thats about how long it takes me to get to Dublin, Mich. ( the best place to buy jerky) from where I live. I would like to try and be there and hope to run into all of you. biggrin.gif

I'll be there all three days this year and would love to meet up! I look forward to it all year. Just the music itself is great, let alone the rest of the information and events they have. I see they have completed entertainment selection for 2009. I'm itching to find out who it is!

J - Gaelic Storm is in town this week! Also, if you get lonely at the festival you can join our pack anytime!

woohoo JP! Looks like I'm going to have all the time in the world this summer (the economy got me to!) So I'm thinking about volunteering for something as well. I've done it in the past, but always seem to be pressed for rest afterwards.

Well another Dublin Irish Festival has come and gone. I spent most of my time on Saturday doing my volunteer gig. It was busy and very crowded that evening. Bands I did get to see ( a very small bit of) were the Young Dubliners and Dervish. Like I said, it was very crowded with no where to sit in either venue.
But my favorite band I saw & heard the most of were local favorites, the Ladies of Longford. These girls are the true Celtic Women!! They have a myspace page.

I also saw, but did not hear play, the Screaming Orphans. They stopped by to say hello to one of my co-workers. I really wanted to hear them play but my duties prevented it.

Overall the experience was worth it and I'll do it again next year!

I had a truly wonderful time as always! Loved the cultural actives! I even became inspired to do some more digging on Celtic Symbolism. The Irish Comic tunes guy was great - Tom O'Carroll...Hope he's back next year!

The screaming orphans are pretty good, remind me alot of the cranberries or the corrs. Got to her a new celtic rock group I like called Pogey. The Young Dubliners were great as always and I picked up their new CD Saints and Sinners - highly recommend it. Can't wait until next year! I see they have pushed it back a week. Which I think is a great idea! And I CANT BELIEVE how big the crowd was this year! My has it grown!!!

Looking forward to next year already....

I got there about 1PM Sunday as my friend did not wish to sample the cuisine. I walked and "people watched." I did run into two friends from Dublin that I had not seen for over a year. The green centerline on the pavement was a nice touch. Was it paint or something that washes off?

Since a state highway runs through "old town" I will see if I can find out if it was paint.

The 2010 Dublin Irish Festival is this weekend (Aug. 6, 7 & 6). Once again I will be manning my assigned volunteer post. Don't know what it will be yet, but will find out tomorrow.
But I am most excited about Natalie McMasters being there: 10 pm Saturday then at 6 pm Sunday. Hope to make it to one of these shows!
