I saw a Ruana on QVC yesterday and I decided I want to make one of my own, but couldn't catch the exact shape of the garment. Does anyone have one and be able to email me a picture of the garment? Or does anyone know where I can find the pattern in line?

Ruana's are basically a ladies version of a poncho. The main difference is a ruana has a slit down the front so one doesn't have to pull it over their head. Otherwise it is the same shape and size. They are usually wool (very often alpaca). Hope that helps.

Do you know if it is rectangular, square, or what? I am thinking of designing one to crochet.

Looks like a rectangle to me.

My mother's ruana (bought in Colombia, S.A.) is 50inches by 50 inches. That is not counting the fringe on two sides (the front and back) that is two or three inches long. The slit in the middle of the front is 26 inches long. It is a very heavy vicuna wool. Hope this helps. biggrin.gif

I'm not an artist and that's not to scale, but I hope you get the idea. The long dashes would be the front and back and would have the fringe (optional), the slit is in the front. It is worn much like a poncho, except that with the slit it may be "put around you" rather than pulled over your head.

Me neither! I had no idea what a Ruana was until I looked at that site. I learned something today too!
