The embrace of the music
Living inside
As a well of comfort
And inner peace

On the footsteps of giants
Treading waters
Long lost in shadows
Far away now

Their drums are beating
Rhythms alive
Time holds no bearing
On the wild wings

Where monoliths and tor
Fall under stars
In the night of music
Lost in afar

To not leave anyone out in the cold, I started this poem as an ode to the beauty that is the experience of listening to and making music! As a musician (vocals and acoustic guitar) I find it hard to fully express everything in one moment...the past couple weeks have been different in that I have been researching many different genres (not to mention, listened to!) and through that have grown as a musician! I was very excited and wanted to share this poem with the hook of getting everyone else's input on the music they listen to, create, record, and herald as their love! If you want, add your own thoughts (as I have) and feel free to write your own "ode" or "embrace" of music in your life!

The french called it an exquisite corpse. An experiment in collective thinking.

Drums resonate in the twilight
Bringing dancers to the campire
to let their shadows temp the flame

Spirits rise as the pace quickens
Souls soar with the nocturnal winds
as ther drumming calls for ancient feelings

now they are primal and uncontrolled
Released in a frenzy of ecstacy
Shadows make love to the flame
pulling forth the old ways and old worlds

and the drums play on
as the dancers feel the embrace of the music

Feet trip lightly o'er the ground
As hearts beat in time to the rythym
Lost in the rapture of losing themselves
To the thumping drums and flickering flames

Without thought to care or strife
The dancers whirl and leap in celebration
Knowing only joy, only peace
Only the love of the music that prods them on

(Not much of a poet... just wanted to give it a try! wink.gif )

These are some great additions...I love the imagery and I can hear the sounds in both! Thank you and excellent work!

Pulses ramble under the moonlit sky
As eagles soar and spirits cry
Never haunted but in their sleep
Inside the rhythm our blood boils deep

Feet in sand and tainted land
Dry from autumn's death abode
Not alone yet suffered still
The fumes of industry sought to kill

But the drums linger
But the shadows falter
And an inner force is born
With the life of song

As the drums fade and the flames flicker
Pipes are rising in the west to summon forth the day

Melodies bounce from leaf to leaf and tree to tree
to invite life from its slumber
to coerse those to embrace the dawn

The piper talks with the birds and whistles with the cricketts
Keeping time with their beats in perfetc syncronisity

The sun hears the invitation and climbs from the nether world
to join in the celebration
the rebirth
the new dawning

The world is born again
embraced by music

Thought I'd resurrect an old post...hope all will join in again in due time!

I draw a line in the sand of light
Twinkling stars aglow with wonder
Many sleepless nights I lie awake
And watch the northern border

Upon the mounting waves I ride
Drawing manna from the gods above
As the moon resides upon the starry throne
All the world embraces the order
Of the sun

She walks about the crystal waters
A queen in robes of fin and gold
The birth of night upon all wonder
Between the stories the fishers told

Into the cold of waking splendor
Drawing power from the moon above
In the cave where wolves stole blood
And all is kindness and wonderful love
Under the sun

The flute and the lire
In the circle 'round the fire
Be it Autumn or the first of Spring
Let the voices rise in the night
In the night

Far away in a emerald-clothed land
Not so far away from my heart
By the river wild we shall stand
Far away but not apart

...that was a little blossom of a stream I discovered while listening to HR!

Don't know where they come from, but they come!

So as to not create a separate thread, I figure I'll use this one to post some of other poetry work. As most of my work is lyrically inspired anyway, figured this would be as good a place as any to post.

Enjoy and keep posting here...I'd love to have more folks posting in this thread with me!

Self-Destructing

I'm trying hard not to fail
But you just don't understand
It broke the will of my body
Though I gained the upper hand

I'm losing face again
I'm self-destructing from within

We lived for years with the void
We bought from pain and disease
You felt deceived and annoyed
It brought you down to your knees

I fought so hard to break you free
We are self-destructing

I can't deny you
Apart from life I'm going insane
All this hiding
Is crashing down on all that remains
How do I live
With these wounds you ignore?
You can't fight it
So what are you running for?

[Self-Destructing, continued...]

The fix don't give you relief
But satisfies your intent
To cross the lines of release
And bleed your heart 'til its bent

You don't need to wonder when
The self-destructing ends

(sorry about that, missed the rest of the song/poem as it was on the back of the page!)

window of hell

I've seen the face in the dark
It surrounds all my nightmares
And wades through my conscience
As a horror, in black

Help me now
I can't see out
Beyond the tainted well
I'm at the window of hell

He hears the perfect intent
Through every spell in the fire
He bears the burdens of death
And wallows in our desire

Upon death's door
Seven tiny taps
As of needles of ice
Bleeding, ever needing more

Sepulchre drowned
Lost in the sacred spell
Seeking the sharp-toothed hound
Opening the window of hell

the other night
i had a dream
and opened my eyes
the shallow disguise

a face of grey
within the glass
pale thoughts in the night
don't turn out the light

hearing my breath
a vapor stood
alone i did pass
the wavering glass

the sun arose
through curtained panes
awoke to the day
the ghost ran away
