Since discussion volume has been low, I thought I'd start a quick topic and show off a bit at the same time.

I've just finished my latest book, "Civil War Woodworking, Vol. II," which is a collection of projects to create various items from the 19th century with ties to either the war or the soldiers. One of the projects might interest you Scots, who should recognize this immediately.

It's made of figured maple, and is 12-1/2" long and 1" at its widest diameter.

A spurtle is a kitchen tool, mostly used for stirring porridge. See, I know what a spurtle is - but I couldn't identify it by the pic, too ... poster_stupid.gif idiot.gif

Very interesting....I didn't know it had a special name. I always thought they used some sort of spoon.

Do a quick Google search for "spurtle," and you'll see hundreds of them. There's even a "Golden Spurtle" award given in Scotland each year!

Actually, I've been threatening to get a spurtle for a while now. I used one at an event a couple of years ago and it worked very well. Easy on the hands too. Besides, it stumps people in no time flat.
