Hello!

Unless there is a change between now and October, it looks like Gaelic Storm will be this year's live band! Here is a link to the festival's website!

http://www.radford.edu/festival/pages/festival.html

Looks exciting! Hope to see you there! I NEVER miss it! biggrin.gif

Think I found a better route than via Interstate.

627 to Winchester, Collect Haldur, Mtn. Parkway to Prestonsburg, pick up 460, cut across VA 11 to the Interstate, and on up... Cut a couple hours off of travel time smile.gif Looks promising. Biggest expense looks tobe a hotel room the night after the festival. I really don't think I'm going to be up to a 4-5 hour drive after a 13 hour day like that wink.gif

$40 gas, probably an absolute maximum of $160 or so on hotel, then food or extras... $300 should do it easy

Looks promising that I'll be able to attend at least wink.gif

ALRIGHT!

WAY COOL, DUDE!

I can't wait to meet ya! Now if I can just convince Haldur, maggiemahone1, TheCarolinaScotsman, 3Ravens and some of the others to come, we'll have an early CR reunion there! biggrin.gif

You may just see me there too! That's the plans anyway. Who knows who may decide to come between now and Oct.

COOL-NESS!!!

I sure hope your plans don't change! I always look forward to the Highlander Festival, but now I JUST CAN'T WAIT!!!! biggrin.gif

I plan on being there, too, Wiz...if nothing catastrophic happens, that is! Then again, I seem to be at the vortex of harrowing events...LOL, jk.

Aaediwen and I have discussed the travel arrangements and it all seems to fit...I figure about $300 or so, as my wife, Sarah, and I will be tagging along with Aaed.

Hey there, Haldur!

Sounds great! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you guys there!

Posted by: Haldur 16-Jul-2005, 07:32 PM
I'm telling you...we'll have to have a big party or something! I can't wait, truly.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 17-Sep-2005, 08:43 PM
Well, the festival is only a few short weeks away (Oct 8) and I can't wait! I'm SO excited! (That would make a good name for a song, huh? biggrin.gif )

Aaediwen has told that unless something happens between now and then, that things were looking very good for him to be there, but that Haldur probably won't be able to attend! sad.gif

So how about it? Anyone else planning to attend? I sure hope so, 'cause I'd love to meet you there!

3Ravens? maggiemahone? CarolinaScotsman? Are you guys (and gals) still thinking about coming?

Isn't the Richmond games close to then too? Like Oct 22 nd?

Allen, NO, Never would I have guessed that you were EXCITED!!! biggrin.gif It's been a while since I've been thru Radford. I hope it hasn't dissapeared from the face of the earth!
BTW..is there plenty of parking available? I'm going now to see if I can find more info about where exactly I need to go!

maggiemahone1

Posted by: WizardofOwls 30-Sep-2005, 03:52 AM
You can usually park most anywhere. I usually park at a bank at the foot of the hill which goes up by the area where all of the activities take place. They have a sign which says "Customers Only," but I have parked there for 4 years running and haven't been towed or got a ticket yet! biggrin.gif That bank parking lot puts you right in the middle of everything. It is on main street where the parade takes place, and its just down the hill from all of the good stuff! Josie (3Ravens) e-mailed me wanting to know where we could meet before it all begins. Would you like to meet us there too? If so, I'll let you and Anthony (Aaediwen) know where just as soon as we decide on something.

Only one more week! biggrin.gif

By the way, is anyone bringing a camera? I don't have one, but I would be willing to go halves with someone on the cost of film and developing if they would get double prints and give me a set!

Hey my friends!

Here are my thoughts on Saturday.

Take I-81 to Radford Exit 105.
Travel roughly a mile to two miles up that road until you see a small shopping center called Central Square.
Look for the guy in the hat that looks like something out of the Cat in the Hat, except its green. That would be me! smile.gif Plan to meet around 8:30 am.
After the Meet and Greet there, we'll run up to Hardee's for a biscuit.
Then we'll go over to where I usually park in the SunTrust bank parking lot and wiat for the parade which usually starts at 10 am.
After the parade we'll walk up the small hill to the festival area and start looking around at the vendors.
The concert by the main band - Gaelic Storm this year - doesn't usually start until around 1 or 2pm (haven't had a yhance yet to look at their website for actual concert time)
Sometime, either before the main concert or after, we can go to Macadoos or wherever everyone wants to go for lunch.
Then we can go back to the festival until time to go home.

Let me know if this looks okay. Also let me know if you need my cell phone number.

By the way, is anyone bringing a camera? I don't have one, but I would be willing to go halves with someone on the cost of film and developing if they would get double prints and give me a set!

I can't wait to meet you all! smile.gif

Have a safe trip!

You'd better believe I'm bringing a camera!

Posted by: WizardofOwls 07-Oct-2005, 02:37 PM
Well, tomorrow is the big day! I'm almost sad becasue this time tomorrow, it will almost all be over and I'll have to wait another year for another festival! sad.gif But I plan on having a ball since some of my buddies will be there this year! smile.gif I went out today and bought me a disposable camera, but I probably should have bought two, cause I want to get LOTS of pics! I'll be sure and post my pics here so everyone can see them!

Everybody have a wonderful time-- can't wait for pictures...

Hello everyone!

I just got back from the festival, and I have to say that Gaelic Storm was.... well.....

AWESOME!

If you ever get the chance to see this band live, don't miss it! Believe me, you won't regret it!

When I am able, I'll try to post a pic or two for you!

Posted by: WizardofOwls 08-Oct-2005, 07:13 PM
OOPS!

I finally figured out how to post a pic... wasn't ready to post it yet! Anywhere in this picture from left to right, are:

3Ravens (Josie)
Me (WizardofOwls)
Abby (A friend of Aaediwen's)
Sean (Afriend of Aaediwen's)
Aaediwen (Anthony)

We had a ball! We really missed maggimahone though! I hope it doesn't rain next year so that I can meet you too! smile.gif

Posted by: maggiemahone1 08-Oct-2005, 07:19 PM
I'm so sorry that I didn't come. Hopefully maybe before long I'll be able to meet some of you folks! Thanks for posting the picture, I'll be waiting to see more. It rained off and on all day here and the temp. has gotten really cool. I didn't want to get wet, sugar melts! biggrin.gif

Can't wait to meet you, dear! smile.gif

Anyway, I think that's the only pic I'm gonna post for now. I was only using a little disposable camera, so my pics didn't turn out all that great. Aaediwen, however was using a very nice digital, so rather than post my rather poor pics, I'm gonna wait and let hime post more when he gets home!

Posted by: Aaediwen 09-Oct-2005, 04:56 PM
I'm home!!!!! What a blast! smile.gif

I've got about some 300 MB of pics to go through. Some will be crap, some will need editing. And then there's a pic each of a couple of wierdos we know that will need editing for GP wink.gif.

And Wiz! I snapped a couple shots out the window as we passed a little town on the way home, that I think you know quite a bit about. Can't see much of the town in the pics though.

Posted by: WizardofOwls 09-Oct-2005, 05:54 PM
Hey buddy! Glad to see you made it home safe! Well, did you guys make it to BTs to see the band? If so how was it?

I just gotta tell you guys that I had an AWESOME time! The day could have been terrible and the band horrible and I STILL would have had a good time, simply because I got to meet my good buddies Aaediwen and 3Ravens! They made my day!

But luckily, despite threatening looking clouds and chilly winds, we didn't get a single drop of rain! And the band was simply out of this world! I bought a Gaelic Storm CD and had it autographed. I also got a t-shirt but I'm afraid I goofed with it. I got a large but should've gotten an X-Large. I can wear it, but with all of this extra weight I've picked up lately, its a little tight. And if it shrinks even the tiniest amount when I wash it, I won't be able to wear it at all. Guess its time to start that diet I've been meaning to work on!

Posted by: Aaediwen 10-Oct-2005, 05:48 PM
hey, I wear large smile.gif

Yeah, we did go over to BT's We got there some time before the band did and so we were a few tables away. I did go over and chat with them a bit though while nusing a Guinness. They're really great. It was a crowded corner though, so I didn't hang around. I got a pic of the table where they were gathered, but it didn't come out well. I think I'll see what I can salvage from it.

I'm liking tracks 2 and 9 from "Special Reserve" biggrin.gif

"But it's not what you're thinkin' it wasn't the drinkin'! This man died o' tirst!"

Posted by: Aaediwen 10-Oct-2005, 06:02 PM
Here's a copy of one of the group pics from my camera. Wiz, the one without the hat is almost as blurry as yours. Don't think there's much saving it.

Also, hey Dundee, you should'a been there smile.gif Had a pretty red-head hanging out with us smile.gif

Posted by: Aaediwen 10-Oct-2005, 07:35 PM
Proof it's all legit!

Posted by: Rindy 10-Oct-2005, 08:48 PM
I am so glad you all made it back and the pictures are wonderful... Wizard I love the hat-

Aaediwen- looks like you got a new shirt thumbs_up.gif

I will definetly check out Gaelic Storm--I have heard nothing but good things about them and believe it or not I saw a couple of their CD's clear out here in the west...What CD would you recommend???

3Ravens its good to see you also..

Wish I lived closer- rest up everyone....how fun...hope you have lots of things to tell about it all..

Thanks for the great pictures...

Well, it rained all the way to the festival (I felt like a salmon swimming upstream).
Then it rained most of the way back.....I just picked up my feet and my little car and I rode the current home! laugh.gif The only place it didn't rain was at the festival itself!
Gaelic Storm is definently a TOS (testosterone on stage) band, but they are also good musicians. Eye candy and good music.....Who Hoo ! note.gif note.gif note.gif
It was so great to finally meet the Wiz and Aaediwen in person! Maggie, you gotta come next year! Aaediwen, I'm going to bring my green cloak next year!

Posted by: Aaediwen 11-Oct-2005, 04:34 PM
I heard one of the band members recommend Special Reserve as a intro CD to start one's Gaelic Storm collection. I picked it up based on General Practices, and what I'd heard here on Highlander. I definately don't regret it!

3R: I've got two events now vieing for my attentions during October next year. Not sure which if either I'll attend. OVFF was more fun, but both trips were enjoiable

Posted by: Aaediwen 16-Oct-2005, 05:32 PM
Ok, I got lazy on editing them, so I'll just create a symlink so you guys can get to my working directory

All I can do is blame my ISP and say try again.

My link is a little less than reliable at times, and it then often takes a while for the DNS servers to be updated once it reconnects, which causes a dead time when my server is unreachable. Unfortunately, it would seem that you managed to hit the link during a dead time. Try again smile.gif

I just opened a new album in the Member's Photos section with some of my pics from the Radford Highlander Festival! Take a look and tell me what you think!

My pics should be back online now too.
