Well, CelticRadio.net has had a rough weekend. Due to a number of issues with one of our new servers, we needed to majorly reconfigure the computer with a new operating system.
This has resulted in "2 Times" this weekend recovering CelticRadio.net to about Saturday mid-day. It does mean that we lost about 12 hours of messages, and some messages from Sunday when we thought everything was ok.
So, if you posted a message and see that it is now gone it is not because someone deleted it or you violated the TOS!
My apologies for the weekend troubles. It should not be repeated again as we have setup the new server with the steady and reliable Redhat Linux (which was running our servers for 2 years). Unfortunately, the choice we had made (Fedora) is probably too cutting edge to be stable as a web/database server.
I agree 110% percent, sus! We are all very appreciative of the work you guys put in, Paul. It is obviously a labor of love to put in so much work without pay. Thank you from those of us who are able to reap the benefits of your time and effort, and for providing me with such a wonderful home away from home!

I need to chime in here too. Thanks for all, and I do mean all, of the Macfive family for this last weekend. Mac, you must be a virtuoso with the computers and code by now. And now I raise my glass to you! Stupendous job!
Dear Lord, lest I continue in my complacent ways, help me to remember that someone died for me today. And if there be war, help me to remember to ask and to answer "am I worth dying for?" - Eleanor Roosevelt

Well, are you still up? Go to bed and sleep. You and Mrs. Macfive must be some of the most sleep deprived folks in New England. Thanks to both of you for your dedication and hard work.
I discovered the problem when I could not get Highlander Radio to play, and went to the site to see if it was working. Then I saw that there must have been a wee bit of a server problem. Fixing things such as this can be an exercise in frustration
I also say thanks for everything, keep up the good work, and God Bless.

The database issue was very complexing, but we figured out how to rebuild the database. It only took until about 3:00am Monday morning!
We learned a few things and aquired a few more tools that allows us to make better back-ups of the database.
One remaining issue is the song database, we just realized tonight there is a bit of data that is not right. I stop short calling it corrupt - it is really some Gaelic words that were not translated right in the database rebuild. So, we are going to update that in the next 20 mins - may cause the playlist to change a bit, but nothing like a few days ago!
Thanks everyone, and if you see any strange Gaelic words on the site that look weird, let me know. Thanks!
Yes, the song database was totally messed up, but we were able to convert it back properly.
Well, we have alot of exciting things coming up now, I am not going to get into all of the technical details - the bottom line is by the 1st of the year our site should really be running alot faster with some new functionalty.
I have it on good authority that a new feature will be as follows: Every time you press the "refill" (eject) button on your "beer dispenser" (CD drive) the "beverage holder tray" (CD tray) will slide open with a frosty cold one on it! If you have Java installed on your computer, it may interfere causing a "beer latte" to be dispensed. This is a known bug and expected to be fixed by the release of CR.Net v3.24 later in 2006. I expect that this new feature will greatly increase the member base, however the long-term effects may be of questionable merit. Most of us (note: I did include myself in that category) are hard enough to understand while sober, so we can expect the quality of posts to drop.

Drinking is a sport. In order to be competitive, you must practice on a regular basis. Although you can practice alone, it is much more fun to practice with friends. If you're out of shape and practice too hard, you will regret it the next day.

Oh dear, I just came back around & read about the troubles here....I had the flu. I'm very glad things are getting back to normal here. :-)
Anyway, there I was selling my first little CD, first to friends live at a release party in CA, then online from my site- $100. in the last month just from that, when my hosting service goes down...ack! I was going to sell more this weekend from an in world event at There. I took all my documents with links away.
I had just been accepted as a new artist here and was very happy. Then I had to write to Paul & ask him to put a hold on it. Our whole website is down and has been for days. There's no use him posting my links when they are dead.
I'll write back to him as soon as everything looks stable again. It sure feels scary when these things happen.
