I just found the best freakin' beer EVER. I don't care for Guinness -- too strong. but my "liquor lady" suggested I try this Guinness brand called Smithwick. It's AWESOME. Taste great, less filling wink.gif . Anyway, it's not as strong, but it's dark and I really like it. I normally do the wine thing, but this stuff is awesome. Anyone ever hear of it?

My dinner is in the oven. I'm just waiting until closer to 5 to make the Colcannon and Boxty and finish up the Slieve. I hadda cook a pork shoulder for my Puerto Rican hubby -- he won't touch corned beef. He's lucky I like him a little rolleyes.gif

I tried this new dish for dessert -- Lemon Syllabub. It sounded great and I wanted to see what the family thought of it. If it's a hit I'm gonna make it a tradition. I sure feel for my sons' future wives -- they're gonna have a helluva time on this day -- WOOHOO! That's almost as good as the famous "Mother's curse".

Gotta go, more beer to be drunk beer_mug.gif

Congrats to all the winners thus far. I have too much Irish Luck and can't seem to get in there. It doesn't keep me from trying --- in between cooking my arse off laugh.gif

According to my 5 year old, when you're "really old" your bones "crack" (to which he's quick to demonstrate as he interlaces his fingers and pushes them outward in front of him) and apparently, I'm the oldest one in the house because Papi's bones don't make the "cracking sound" and, as I explained before, that "cracking sound" means you're "really old" and I'm the only one that makes it (logic gets you the deduction here). But I'm not to worry, he'll take care of me "til I die". unsure.gif

Is it noon yet so I can drink a beer beer_mug.gif

QUOTE (John Clements @ 15-Mar-2007, 08:02 AM)
As some of you may know. Like last year. I was planning on renting a kilt, and going to McCarthy’s St Paddy’s day party. But I’m afraid I’m going to have to amend that, because St Paddy’s day conflicts with a huge impeach Bush demonstration in Washington, which I will be attending instead. Hey, maybe I’ll wear the kilt to that?

Question everything,
JC

Ok, I gotta ask: "WHAT'S UP YOURS?"

God I love that band!

Every year I cook a huge meal and try to force a bit of Irish culture down my kids' throats smile.gif . For the most part, they enjoy it, but claim they can only take so much of bagpipes biggrin.gif (their taste is all in their mouth).

I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to cook yet except the "usual" Corned Beef, cabbage, colcannon or champ, soda bread, scones, and this dish with baby carrots and heavy cream -- I can't remember the name of it without looking at my recipe box. Anyhow, I'm always open to try new things, so if anyone has a great recipe, please share cool.gif . I'm having a girlfriend I work with over and I'm debating trying some Shillelagh, but when I made some last year it was nasty and potent and I keep thinking there must be a better recipe to it than the one I found. I may even be able to talk her into going to the local Dan McGuinness down the street for a little while walkman.gif . Anyway, there will be lots of music and a fine showing of John Wayne's The Quiet Man -- it's a tradition in my house to watch that one.

The bad news is he's not housebroken.

The good news is, your brother-in-law is a professional dog trainer.

It says I'm a Centrist. Always thought I was Liberal, but based upon the 8 or 10 questions they asked, I guess I'm an indecisive middle of the road for everything kinda gal.

I just wanted to re-introduce myself. I've been a fan of Highlander for several years now. I'm in the military and my mission has taken me away for many months. I've been able to catch glimpses of the site off and on (boy has it grown), but nothing that feeds that Celtic beast in me. I love this site and I love all of you that support it. You've turned me on to some awesome music and it's appreciated. In a far away place when you're homesick and tired and stressed and scared, even a moment or two of Miss Rebecca's voice or a favorite song or a few notes from a bagpipe brings a peace upon you that you thought you'd forgotten. OK, I'm crying now. Anyway, you get the point and I'm glad to be home and back where I belong. . . .with my family and my Highlander family.

I just wanted to thank everyone who runs this website. I have been a member of this website for the past 3 years. I listen whenever I get the opportunity. You see, I am in the Army and I have several close friends that are now overseas. Every now and again we get an e-mail from them and know that they're alright, but we've recently discovered that we have similar interests. I turned them on to this website and, believe it or not, they get it all the way over there biggrin.gif . So when it comes time for requests I usually dedicate a song or two to a few friends walkman.gif and sometimes we have a virtual pub party. It's my way of connecting with them. I know I'm taking a gamble as to whether or not they actually see the request, but for each of us to have this connection is simply one of the best things for all involved. Your website has allowed that and I can't thank you all enough for giving us that opportunity. There is nothing on the web like Highlander and I pray it continues for generations to come. God Bless.

I am absolutely interested in this forum and very grateful for it biggrin.gif . I've been trying to teach myself Gaelic off and on for about 6 months. I bought a book (Beginner's Irish, Rosenstock, Hippocrene Books), but it just sucks (how do you say THAT in Gaelic?)!! It has a great history of the language, but no real useful pronunciation guide (unless, of course, I'm just plain stupid sad.gif ). I've finally resorted to printing pages from the internet and reading and practicing at night before bed. I was wondering if it would be possible to post some good reference material (books, tapes, CDs, etc.). I don't mind spending the money on them as long as I know they're useful and good resources. . . . .I just hate wasting the time/money on something that really doesn't work and at this point, I'm a really poor judge until it's too late.

Thanks again,
Rogue

My biggest pet peeves:

Folks who stop in the middle of the aisle (usually at Wal-Mart) to gab and hold up everyone else up
Kids who say "yep" when called
Glasses on tables without coasters (call me anal, I can't help it)
I HATE repeating myself (my daughter is almost a teenager and I find this one REALLY gets on my nerves)
Sales clerks that constantly want to know if they can "help you find something" even after you've been quite clear that they can't or you're only looking

I'm make a huge dinner on Saturday for St. Patrick's Day (I know it's not actually St. Patrick's Day, but a girl's gotta work) and my sister wants "shilleleagh" (don't know if I spelled that right) and potatoe pie. Anyone know of any good recipes for those items?

I think I'm working on my 10th move in 20 years this week -- of course, I'd already be gone except that the red tape and paperwork seem to be holding me up. Hopefully, this is my last move and I can stay put until returement (the closer I get my daughter to Aggie school, the less the tuition will cost me biggrin.gif)

The flu shot used to be a live virus -- now they can give you a dead one. I had it this year and other than my arm being a bit sore and feeling a little tired for about 24 hours after, I've been fine. I didn't like the live virus shots either so I was glad when they had another option.

I had mine in October -- I'm forced to every year and dragged kicking and screaming rolleyes.gif (I just HATE needles). Then, when I had heard about how bad this flu season was going to be, I got my whole family shots. They gave my 2 year old a half dose with instructions to return in a month for the other half. Now, you know it's got to be pretty bad if they're giving it to infants.

As a side bar, usually if I feel the flu coming on I make up a hot toddy(did I spell that right). . . . . or 2. It will knock me out for the night and when I wake up in the morning I feel all better -- it's medicinal where I come from you know thumbs_up.gif .

What happened to the requests? Is it broken, being revamped/improved, or just done away with altogether? I certainly enjoyed them, but I suppose I don't really understand them. At one time I thought we could only request 3 songs per hour, then I thought only 5 songs per day and now, I think it's been disabled. What happened?
