As everyone knows by now, we made some very drastic changes to our broadcast about a month ago. The decision was not an easy one, but was required in order for us to insure that Highlander Radio continues. That decision involved moving our entire streaming services to Live365. By doing so, we are insured that we are in compliance with U.S. Laws, licencing and royalty regulations.

I know that from the listener prospective it is more difficult to use Live365 and we probably lost some listeners during this move. But I have a firm belief that doing things the right way is the best way. And my hope is that we will continue to grow and figure out how we can get bigger and bigger and spread this Celtic Culture and community. I know that the RIAA and Hollywood music industry does not want websites and music broadcasts like Highlander Radio to flourish. They would rather us listen to Top 40 music on all of the channels. They would rather just erase anything good in music and charge us over $20 for a CD forever. And by the way - like Microsoft, how many times are we going to buy that song: 8-track, Record, Tape, CD.

As I have said before, Celtic music has character, it has grace, depth and inspiration. It challenges us to be better, honors our shared history and reflects on the mistakes of the past.

Thanks for sticking with us while we made this important change. You can read more about the recent U.S. copyright laws here:

Ahh, much better!

Except for the occasional Jimmy Buffett song, I rarely listen to Top 40/adult contemporary/lite rock stations. I find that kind of music dull. Same for never watching the show American Idol. IMHO, in order for most kinds of art or entertainment to be good, it has to have the potential to offend some people.

Tis such a shame that silly new laws cause problems for radio stations like this one in order to convince we, the public, to buy more cds... It's ridiculous, in fact. I've bought more cds by artists I've heard here first than I have by any other artists...

Keep up the great work, ye who be in charge of Celtic Radio. Where you lead, I will follow **grins** and I will keep listening. Cheers! biggrin.gif

It has become harder but it is doable. I can no longer just turn on iTunes and listen. Lucky me 365 now has a mac beta of their software, and I have one hundred minutes to test their product. I will have to decide if there cost is worth it as I will only use it to listen to this station.

I am glad that you are back on the air.
Although I listen to the "top 40" music, I get bored quickly and love celtic music as a nice change from what "they" push on us.

Keep up the good work.

I think about the sound track from O Brother Where Are You. The music establishment was really angered by music which 1 Wasnt Top 40 and better yet 2 Not Greatly Advertised and made a boatload of money that They didnt get a hugh share of. Here Here
