Four more days!!! It's looks like everythings up on the website for 2013. Both Gaelic Storm and the Red Hot Chili Pipers have new CD's for this year so it should be interesting. There will be a display of Irish contributions to Science Fiction and Fantasy along with a Tolkien display in the cultural area. Another display dedicated to the Wee folk of the British isles. I hope they bring up the pixies of Cornwall were some of my family hail from. I haven't heard of any of the authors that are featured-most seem local. The theatre has a couple of the plays that I would like to see this year. "The Little People" looks like a good one and "Sister Bernie's Bingo Bash" is a yearly one for us. (we won the cash pot two years ago!) Hope to see some of you there!!

See you there (in the general sense I suppose) - I'll be playing with Atlantic Wave on Friday at 4 on the Aer Lingus stage, then wandering about the grounds and hanging out at Celtic Roots a lot. I'll be there every day Thursday thru Sunday. Weather forecast is looking good....

Hey Robert, give us a report on how it all went. Have never been to the Milwaukee event and would love to someday.

Tell us about it!

Sadly, i was unable to attend this year. My daughter showed up wednesday evening to inform us that her power had been shut off so we had to pay the past due amount which was about a grand. So all our plans went out the window. My poor wife was crying for most of the weekend. Normally my daughter would have been able to get help from the state for that sort of thing but the electric company she has to go with is a co-op and doesn't take state funds.
I did see some good posts on facebook and the videos ares tarting to roll n on yutube now. I guess the Red Hot Chili Pipers had a crowd of 12,000 and they had to start turning people away from that section. I wish some of the lecture and presentations would have been filmed for those who can't make it. So here's llooking forward to next year. Right now we are trying to get to the MN ren fest for the Highland fling weekend.

A bit late in the announcements this year but so was the festival. Normally they start announcing the lineup up in Dec but nothing showed untill a couple of weeks ago. Okay, so far this year the lineup this year is the High Kings, Dougie MacLean (wrote Caledonia song), Carlos Nunez, Beoga, StepCrew, Willis Clan, Shannon Shannon, We banjo 3, Manran, Seamus Kennedy, and Scythian. So far it looks like I will be able to make it this year since both my house and car will be paid off soon! In other news I've heard that Clannad is getting back together so it will be cool if they came. Still no Barleyjuice, Albannach, or any of the big name festival regulars ahve been announced.

Some new artists have been added with Gaelic Storm and the Red Hot Chili Pipers being amoug them. This will be one of the stops for Black 47's final tour and a final show for Different Drums of Ireland. Both great bands worthy of seeing in a lifetime. Check out the lineup here

More artists have been added and the cultural area is starting to post some of the authors and exhibits that will be there. Her's a link to the Cultural area for this year. Haven't heard of any of the authors or books but you never know who you might meet there.

Pretty much a a cut and paste of what I posted over at the Brotherhood of the Kilt forum. Still not recoved enough from everything to write up two seperate reviews but here it is:

Ok, I made it down there finally and here's my review for the yrear. First the good:

Red Hot Chili Pipers were awesome!!! I've seen many rock acts, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Rush, Stones, Grateful Dead, and I've have rarely seen an opening number that was so impressive and well done as the RHCP. And the rest of the show was just as great. I was so impressessed I saw them twice-full show. Hoping I can spot myself in the crowd when the DVD of the concert comes out. Grey shirt with "Yooper" written across it. Middle-fifth row(?) purple kilt. The rest of the festival seems like a blur after that show. Got a shirt for being at the filming of the DVD which should be out in October. Black 47 and Different Drums both put out great final Irishfest shows. Skerryvore also put on a pretty good show.We Banjo Three and Socks in the Frying Pan seem to be the "hot" new bands that were being buzzed about during the festival.

The bad: Missed Dougie MacLean. They scheduled him on the opposite side of the park at the same time as Black 47 and RHCP. Hopefully he will be back. The Cultural center was totally rearranged and that will take some getting used too. No Sister Bernie's Bingo Bash which was always fun. The UK snack area was completely taken over by jameson wine tasting this year so no jelly babies for me. And the scariest thing for me was the almost total lack of CD's available. The bands had their CD's for sale but there use to be two vendors that sold CDs of other artists. It was my celtic music supply house that I got to go to once a year. One of vendors disappeared three years ago. The other use to have four tables of Cds. This year he had one table and they were priced at either $5 or $9 bucks each. Snapped up what I could but it looks like CD's are on their way out. FYI, I just bought a brand new 2014 Kia Soul-great car, comes with Sirrus radio (which I hate) and no CD player which, I guess will not be available in any of their future cars. Now I've got to buy an MP3 player and download everything onto that to listen to it in the car. Sucks, period.

Last night of the festival for us we were on the way out and out of nowhere i got kilt checked. Nuff said. Sunday we went to Bristol ren fair. Think we will skip that next year and just stay for all three or four days of the fest. My wife Sarah has all the pics on her facebook site.
