Geographic Help About British Isles, Trying to pin a location for my book

It didn't dawn on me until tonight that I could ask for help in this forum... either someone has an idea or the topic goes dead.

Looking for a port area in either the east of the land or the north of Europe where mountains (peaks) meet the coast. They don't have to be dramatic peak, but an area that has contrast when viewed from say, the water.

I started a book based on virtual landscape from an online game, and have managed to fit it into something more closely resembling reality. Toying with making it historically based, and I'm presently researching that option.

Any ideas would be most gratefully appreciated.

Try the west coast of Scotland from Oban up to Kyle of Lochalsh, even 'inland' to For William where you have Ben Nevis rising up above the sea loch Loch Linnhe.

Alternatively look at Norway and the fjords - some of Slartibartfast's best work

Thanks for the response. I've actually been to both Oban and Ben Nevis. I would really have to remove the sea side town clutter mentally to think about the port city, but I can see why you would mention that.

To be more clear about the book geography: it is 4,000 bc, and I'm actually planning on using the rising of the sea water over the centuries in my text. The virtual land I based it on is a high mountain peak, say a half mile inland, with twin mountains ridges reaching away from each other toward the shore to form an awkward triangle with the beach. By now, 6k years later, it would probably look more like two cliffs.

Because I wrote the entire book around this (240 single spaced pages with half inch margins so far), it would be important that the above criteria at least roughly work. As I mentioned, it's not integral that something exactly fit, but it would help me hone in on some of the historical stuff I'm trying to fit in, like pottery and weapons. There's so much fun stuff to play with.
