Notice To Northerners, The ones planning on moving South.

The following is a pre-approved posting whose purpose is to offer insight and advice to Northerners moving South.
. Save all manner of bacon grease. You will be instructed on how to use it shortly.
. Just because you think you can drive on snow and ice does not mean Southerners can. Stay home the two days of the year it snows.
. If you do run your car into a ditch, don't panic. Four men in the cab of a four-wheel pick-up with a 12-pack of beer and a tow chain will be along shortly. Don't try to help them. Just stay out of their way. This is what they live for.
. You can ask Southerners for directions, but unless you already know the positions of key hills, trees and rocks, you're better off trying to find it yourself.
. Remember: Y'all is singular. All y'all is plural. All y'all's is plural possessive.
. Get used to hearing, "You ain't from around here, are you?"
. Don't be worried that you don't understand anyone. They don't understand you, either.
. The first Southern expression to creep into a transplanted Northerner's vocabulary is the adjective "big ol", as in "big ol truck", or"big ol boy", "Fixin'", as in "I'm fixin' to go to the store", 2nd, and "Y'all" is 3rd.
. As you are cursing the person driving 15 mph in a 55 mph zone directly in the middle of the road, remember: ALL Southern folks learned to drive on a John Deer, and this is the proper speed and lane position for that vehicle.
. If you hear a Southerner exclaim, "Hey, y'all, watch this!", stay out of his way. These are likely the last words he will ever say, or worse still, that you will ever hear.
. Most Southerners do not use turn signals; they ignore those who do. In fact, if you see a signal blinking on a car with a Southern license plate, you may rest assured that it was already turned on when the car was purchased.
. If it can't be fried in bacon grease, it ain't worth cooking, let alone eating.
. The wardrobe you always brought out in September can wait until December.
. If there is the prediction of the slightest chance of even the most minuscule accumulation of snow, your presence is required at the local grocery store. It does not matter if you need anything from the store. It is just something you're supposed to do.
. Satellite dishes are very popular in the South. When you purchase one, it is positioned directly in front of the house. This is logical, bearing in mind that the dish cost considerably more than the house and should, therefore, be prominently displayed.
. Be advised that in the South, "He needed killin' " is a valid defense.

Coming from Idaho, everybody east of the Rockies are foreigners.

As a former trucker do you think that I can fit in SC??? I always had waitresses in California (admittedly a foriegn land of it's own ) telling me what a cute little southern accent that I have, while southerners would tell me that I must be some sort of bad smelling yankee (although I have always bathed on a regular basis and use the apropriate deoderants ) plus any intelligent remarks on the CB were always met with ,"yall must be some sort of school boy." (probably not by real southerners but no doubt ignorant yankees trying to fit in )

I only did that for 14 years and the only place in the south that I ever had any problem fitting in was Georgia (is Georgia still a part of the south? )

I was raised on the South Side of Indianapolis and have always felt resentment towards North Siders This only bothers me now as I have since discovered much to my chagrin that South siders are mostly rednecks.

This is not intended to be a comentary on the South in general just the Southside (you can throw in the East side in many instances also and many portions of the west side) of Indianapolis the city where I live. I'm sure that the Peckery feels that way about the whole city, him being from a foreign land and all.

I was born and raised in Texas and when I was 16 moved back to my ancestral home of North Carolina, I got in to an arguement with one boy that claimed "You talk funny" & "your a Gotdamned Yankee." I then had to procede to tell him that I was from further south than he had probably ever been and Yes, Texas is the South some of the last battles of the war was fought there. Supposedly the last Battle was fought here in Waynesville N.C. but the dates are a point of contention. The amusement park "Six Flags" is a direct reference to Texas the only state to have six governments rule it. Spain, France, Mexico, The Rep. of Texas, US, & the CSA.

Damn, you sound like a Chicago South Sider . The only difference is that we don't have an east side to speak of. Where the east side of Chicago would be is this little drink of water called Lake Michigan.

I don't see how you possibly could, considering that here in SC only one out of 10 men are not truck drivers. They are either a beautician in some artsy-fartsy botique, or a waiter at Applebee's. No sense in a veteran trucker, retired or otherwise, trying to fit into that kind of persona. I would liken it to puttin a pig in a dress.

Ya'll are thinking of the East Coast, I live on the West Coast (of Florida, not the "Left Coast"). Here we have mostly Midwesterners; Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, ect... and lots of Germans (for some reason Germans love Cape Coral, Fl).
