Some men are drawn to oceans, they cannot breathe unless the air is scented with a salty mist. Others are drawn to land that is flat, and the air is sullen and is leaden as August. My people were drawn to mountains- Earl Hamner Jr.
Here's the latest batch of newcomers! We bid you all welcome to the forum! Where else can you bake authentic Scottish Scones and chase vampires at the same time, then have a pint at the bar afterwards?
Hey Barddas, ya beat me to it! Welcome Tarani and all the other folks I have missed while I have been down playing in the pub. Pull up a stool and have a few.
Leo, probably the most confused person in this group of fine folks.
I found this site on the Clan Macrae Society of North America website and I'm glad to be here!
A wee bit aboot meself: I am a direct decendant from the Macrae clan of Kintail...I'm still trying to trace who came over. I think they came during the Highland Clearances. My family Bible has a birthdate as early as 1807 for Daniel G. Ray so I need to find who came before him etc...Most of the family settled in North Carolina and some came as far as Mississippi. I see that you have our castle at the top of the splash page! Eilean Donan came into Macrae keeping after the Mackenzies left Scotland.
My Welsh/British ancestry dates to 1292 in the village of Threlkeld near Glastonbury Abbey. The poet Wordsworth even wrote about my ancestors Lords Clifford and Jonathon Threlkeld!
I am a 30 year old mother of 2, ages 10 1/2 and 9 1/2, son and daughter respectively. I'm taking a break right now but I plan to get back to studying archaeology at the first opportunity! My areas of study are the Near East and United Kingdom. Oh yes... I live in Tomball, Texas.
