From Scottish friends of mine I hear this guy is the current "beez kneez" of Scottish artists right now. What do you think?

I rather like his artwork. The Singing Butler only went for 1.3 million dollars! Wow!

I like his works. BUT he ain't the beez kneez amongst the 'artistic community' in the UK - for some unknown reason, Jack's never been honoured in any way....

I put it down to the fact that he's an ex-miner, totally self-taught.... Didn't go through the usual artschool model of instruction!

He hasn't lived or worked in Scotland for a very long time though - he lives in London.

I agree about the fact that if artists don't go to art school and are self-taught, it really affects their career and how the public responds to them. I have seen this happen to many artists I know. Too bad, isn't it? Well, my artist friend from Scotland is the one who told me he was the "beez kneez around the UK." He rather likes him. I really like this guys work too!

Thanks Cat always for your info! Hope you are doing well! smile.gif

I have a couple of prints of his works on my study wall... In some ways he reminds me of some of the 'seascape' type paintings of one of my favourite American artists Edward Hopper (eg Ground Swell and 'The Martha MacKean of Wellfleet' - which are prints which hang on my office wall!)

There is a big exhibition in London of Hopper's works. I'm hoping to go when next I visit the great metropolis!

Wow! His work is very similar to Edward Hopper! I couldn't believe it!

Aren't they?!

Truism that there's nothing new under the sun...... tongue.gif

I have to confess that I find some of Hopper's urban scenes, especially the ones in offices and in lit rooms, observed from outside... shall we say.... a little sinister!
I never feel there is anything remotely sinister in Vettrianno's works, though.

Hmmm, very interesting. I will have to take another look and compare again! I really love both artists' work.
