New to the site and not sure if this is the right place to post this but I am sure I will be directed accordingly if it is not!
I recently inherited a very old canvas banner with what appears to be a coat of arms, the bottom motto is Latin and the top appears Welsh?? I have been told the Latin translates as, "To Love My Country" or perhaps "Love of My country Conquers" ?
The top motto appears Welsh and I have been told means, "Long Life Filled With Happiness" ?
The banner is large, 8 feet by 8 feet and is believed to be oiled canvas. There are four large iron rings on each corner for hanging. It is hand painted and all the hems are hand stiched and doubled over.
I am very interested to know what this banner was for, perhaps what era it is from and who's coat of arms are depicted?
It appears I can only post one picture here but I have other detailed pictures for anybody interested, thanks in advance for any info, Jeremy.
Welcome to Celtic Radio jeremy. I hope you enjoy the music as well as the fantastic people you will find here on the forum. I hope someone can help you with your banner. It's very interesting. I am looking forward to you posting.
It would be great if I could find out some info about this......... it appears this site has a wealth of knowledge about Celtic items/history, so I think I came to the right place.
PS. Thank you for the welcome..........
