Well, it looks like Florida is going to get hit with a couple big storms. Bonnie is headed towards the pan-handle as a tropical storm, and Charley was JUST upgraded to a Hurricane, and is headed toward the Tampa Bay area (that's where I live).
So, for those that live in Florida, be prepared, and be safe!

Yep. I hope you and your family will be okay, Brian.
I live in eastern North Carolina, and it looks like Charley will give us our second hit of the season after he gets through with Florida. But, at least he's supposed to be a tropical storm for us. Then again, that's what they said about Alex, so, we'll see!
Yep, looks like the "wind gods" are out to get us this year. Three storms and three hits so far. Fortunately no biggies yet. Don't need any more Frans or Andrews.
ImmortalAvalon, I'm just east of Sanford, NC, dfilpus is in Chapel Hill and FreeKenny has a house at the beach in NC. We ought to all get together sometime. Wonder how many more of us are in the "Old North State"?

A North Carolina meet would be good fun. Anybody have a location in mind?
Meanwhile, we're looking for lots of rain from Bonnie (Prince) Charlie. Bonnie hit southern NC the last time around.

That sounds like fun! I live a bit northwest of New Bern.

Oh, how I remember. That one wasn't very strong, but it was SLOW!!!! Went through at about 2 mph or something.
And we certainly don't need another Fran, Isabel, or, horror of horrors, Floyd!
Aww shucks, dfilpus, you beat me to the Bonnie (Prince) Charlie joke! I caught that the first time I saw it on the news and wondered if I was the only one to make that connection! Great mins think alike, I guess!

I'm out here hanging on the end in Waynesville, NC to the west of Asheville.

Well..it looks like Charley is headed right toward Tampa Bay, where I live. They still haven't evacuated are particular area, but we are close to the water (3 blocks). They are predicting 14' storm surges in Tampa Bay. We're going to be moving our vehicle to a parking garage across the street real soon.
I work for the Hilton hotel, which is just two blocks away, so I'm hoping if any flooding occurs (we're in a first floor apt.) we can get over to the hotel and hopefully get a room. The winds are supposed to start around 10am, tropical force winds will arrive by 2pm, and hurricane force winds will be here by 5pm.
I've friends that just moved down to the tampa area, and they are already getting their first taste of the weather, I wonder if that'll send 'em back to Alabama... probably not. My parents have a condo out on Edisto Island, but I think that's South Carolinia otherwise I'd say we could all head there for the meet 'n' greet.
Also, have to say I like the weather this week. Not often that I wear long sleeves in August in Alabama.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the path of this storm. Florida could be hit very hard and areas further north could receive major flooding. I hope everyone stays safe and that no one takes any chances.
I'd like to add my thoughts and prayers. You all take good care and stay safe!

Don't forget about those of us that live on Georgia's coast. I have my boat out of the water and secured. Have all of my coolers full of ice and precooked food stored. Have my two gas cylinders filled so I can cook for the family and neighbors when the electricty is out. We will not get hammered like our Florida neighbors but we are expecting heavy weather after midnight tonight with winds increasing to 45 knots or better with gust up to 65 knots. This will change as the storm changes directions. Keep all of us in your prayers.
