QUOTE (Emmet @ 26-Jun-2005, 11:43 AM)
I'm not going to try to rationally debate someone who is so solidly impervious to facts (and so ready to invent them on the fly) that they are essentially delusional and immune to reason. A Republican decrying the degeneration of civil political discourse in this country is like someone who's been defecating in the communal well for years loudly complaining that the water tastes funny. Any review of your posts on this forum will show an outright contempt for concepts and ideas of which you obviously haven't even the slightest understanding, a cruel Ann Coulterish castigation and sneering ridicule of people you dishonestly portray and whose words you freely distort, and the masturbatory militarism and smug sophistic arrogance of a rather dull schoolyard bully. I truly believe that you've more than adequately demonstrated that your shirt's brown, regardless of what flag you choose to desecrate by wrapping yourself in. I stand by every single word I said, and I meant every single word from the bottom of my heart. You and everyone like you represent the absolute worst of America. You and everyone like you are anathema to true democracy. You and everyone like you are destroying this country and destroying this planet. That makes you and everyone like you my mortal enemy, and I sincerely wish you and everyone like you nothing less than hell and death.

This will be my last post. I have to deal with this kind of BS with the meth heads I arrest. I don't need it on my off duty time. I can accept the fact that Emmet is barking mad, but why didn't any one take him to task?

I have enjoyed Highlander radio but I know when it is time to leave. Shamalama, you will be missed, come visit Arizona some day.

Emmet, I pity you.

QUOTE (MDF3530 @ 23-Jun-2005, 04:27 PM)
Question-

Would you have the same opinion if all five conservatives on the Supreme Court had ruled the same way?

1) They didn't

2) Yes

Had the conservatives voted the other way we would still be hearing the screaming. Rich white conservatives helping out their rich friends.

This is the worst decision ever; you can no longer be secure in your own home. Just because you think that your home will not be taken does not mean that you won't be affected. That quiet street that you like your kids to play on now becomes a four lane for the truck traffic needed. How about that cabin in the woods you spent your life working and saving for? Sorry, the new golf resort will bring in more tax dollars.

What is going on? I am ready to start singing Woodie Guthrie songs and take to the streets, and I am slightly to the right of Attila the Hun.

Poll Poll: The Draft

No, there will not be a draft. As a former Marine recruiter I can tell you the last thing we want is a bunch of spoiled, pot smoking little punks who have been raised by their liberal mommies and daddies to think of themselves first and foremost in the armed services. The manpower needed to keep the little tuds from bolting home to moma after the first week of boot camp would be too great. And what job are we going to give to these slackers? What postition of trust?

The real proplem is that those individuals who we would want, are not sure if their sacrifice would be in vain. It looks like we don't have the guts to see this thing through. We don't see in the news that power was restored to homes in Bagdad, or water and sewer. We don't hear that girls are alowed to go to school, and are no longer are afraid of Sadam's rape rooms. The MSM is giving hope to the thugs; just one more senseless bombing and maybe we will call it quits, cut and run. After all, didn't and American Senator liken Americians to Natzis and Pol Pot? furious.gif

In the PI I ate tuyo, (dried fish) and rice. I had read a story about a man who had been unjustly sued for libel, and all they could afford to eat was tuyo and rice, he did not complain because he said "It tastes like truth."

I would like to try hagis, but i am afraid I will have to learn to prepare it myself. I think it must taste like the highlands.
There is a reason this is an unmoderated forum, hardball politics are discussed here (well, maybe more like fast-pitch softball) and if you're timid or easily offended you may not want to venture in.
Politics are a full contact blood sport, I regret that anyone out there may get their feelings hurt. I am offended myself when those on the other side of the aisle suggest that my taxes should be increased to fund a needle exchange program for gay welfare cheats. However we do need to be able to speak as directly as we can, it will be offensive at times, it may show ignorance on the part of the speaker, but if I accuse the French of being "cheese eating surrender monkeys"it does no good to accuse me of being racist. Fire back with the facts of the French during the resistance, or operations of the French foreign Legion. Knuckles will get skinned and noses bloodied but at the end of the day we may learn a new respect for each other that can not happen if we get in a huff over hurt feelings. argue.gif argue.gif cheers.gif cheers.gif

Do you really want to know the truth? Do you understand that in a trial some evidence can be suppressed; if the jury were to see it they would rush the SOB on trial and hang him in the court house square?

So in a trial, where a man's life and liberty hang in the balance, the Whole truth may not be presented.

Also there is just too much information out there. Yes I want to know what is going on. I want to know what is going on at Abu Grabe, but if we had known a bunch of reservists were running a prison shorthanded and without the proper training, I think that would have sent up a few red flags. The whole mess could have been stopped before it even started.

Can you trust the guy giving you the news? I am often on scene where news is happening, but what I watch that night on the Ten O'Clock NEWS has very little in common with what really happened.

Well, I've got bad news for you, and then its really going to go down hill.

The bad news is, as a cop there are only a few options open for us. Do we want to handcuff a five year old? NO! Will we? YES. Once I show up everything is going to be my fault, either by action or inaction. Handcuff a five year old, you brute. The five year old managed to hurt herself? Well why didn't you restrain her?

Now, for those of you wondering where we are going and what are we doing in this handbasket, I will tell you; the mother will get a settlement from whoever underwrites the school. The dirty secret is that it will be cheeper to pay her off than take her to court. The mother knows this, the bottom feeding lawyers know this, and now the five year old will know this. mad1.gif

I think I am getting sick... yucky.gif

Yes the habu is a poisonous snake in Okinawa. The good habu saki will have a rather large habu sitting in the bottom of the bottle. You can get "Snake Bit" at the Staff Club on MCAS Yuma; a rattle snake in the bottom in a jar of spirits.
I guess you wouldn't want to nosh on some balut either. I used to sit in the Brown Fox drinking San Magoo just waiting for that guy to come by with his basket honking his horn. Oh yeah, balut, massarap! dribble.gif

I had drank Red Horse in the philippines and enjoyed it, however, when exported it is mixed with formaldehyde as a preservative. QUOTE (Swanny @ 21-Mar-2005, 09:40 AM)

Perhaps he made his wife a promise, and now feels duty bound to fulfil it.

Swanny

What about that promise made before God to love honor and cherish til death do us part? Do you get to choose which promises you keep and which you do not?

Granted, I don't think I would like to live like Terii, but if I am brain dead, what would it matter? If I am only aware that someone I love is in the room, but that makes me happy, who can say if that is not a good quality of life?

Terii is a test. How do we treat the most defenseless among us? We are failing that test.

I have been shooting most of my life. My Grandfather rode with a posse in Wyoming, and told the story of the outlaw getting shot out of the saddle. My Grandfather did not like toy guns, guns are tools, not toys!
I have (issued) A SIG 226 .40, M16.A.1, Remington 870, and for dress up I own a Sig 232 .380 stainless.
If I had my choice I would have cowboy guns and historical firearms. I love black powder, and I love history. Nothing brings history to life for me as much as handling an infantry rifle from the 1800's. Having been on a few humps myself I am impressed when I think that some poor foot soldier had to pack this 20 Lb beast plus ammo.

I am sorry to hear about the problems your mother is having. A good lawyer should be able to help. I suspect some responsibility on the part of the bank. Some people have problems with money, my wife thinks of credit cards a a loan between friends, and of course my friend would understand if I can't pay you back right now. The bank just keeps sending out the credit cards though, and adding every late fee known to man.

As I have grown older I try to base my opinions on facts. Facts based on my experience and arguments based in logic. When I was younger, I based more of my opinions on emotion, "Its just not fair that some people should have to live on the street."
Now we have a person who lives on a freeway on ramp. He has been here about two years, just sitting in a folding chair day and night, rain or shine. He has been arrested twice, when the garbage gets too high and he refuses to pick it up. The protester come out of the wood work then! Last time one even posted his bail! He didn't offer him a job as a night watchman, or even a spare room in the garage, just set him back out on his corner.
I know this problem needs more than just "feel good" solutions. It does not help this guy to give him a happy meal, he needs treatment. In a proper environment we may be able to banish the demons that torment him and then discover he is a great artist.
Now we have a debate, at what point do we commit an individual? How much are we willing to pay in taxes to support a mental health system for the destitute?
The protesters like to keep the argument to 30 second sound bites that play well on the news. A few comments about "jackbooted thugs" in law enforcement and "A man has the right to live free as he sees fit." I don't think this is fair, it does not address the issue, I guess I can respond in kind, "Teach a man to fish, and you have a job for the day. Give a man a fish and you have a job for life."

A lot of my family stories are just that, stories handed down. My mother was able to document them, so that is a plus. These stories tell us who we are and who we wish to be; my Grandfather jumped ship in New York, then joined the Army to get U.S. citizenship. He was promptly shipped off to France where he survived some of the bloodiest fighting in WWI. Ah, to be brave like Grandfather.
My other Grandfather also fought in WWI and when he returned, he found that the family had sold all his belongings. No one expected him to live and they needed the money. Ah, to handle adversity like Grandfather.
Then there is the story of the cousin who while camping on the Oregon Trail, used a discarded musket barrel for a spit over his fire. When the barrel got hot enough, the powder charge cooked off and the musket ball broke his leg. Ah, let's not do anything stupid.
