Came across this site when I was doing a wee bit of snoop'n for holiday ideas. Not that we can afford a trip cross the pond yet....but ye can always plan for some day. rolleyes.gif

This really caught my attention as an interesting way to spend a holiday. It's one thing to go and stand in line and do all the 'touristy' things....but another to go to a place ye love and actually help out and learn about it.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of these types of holidays or gone on one? I can imagine, depending on the type of one ye chose....it could mean a lot of physical work.

CA
Where you talking about a specific category of holiday on that site?
I had a quick look, but it looked similar to many other UK holiday sites that I've seen. biggrin.gif

I looked at the Edinburgh B&B one - I think calling a B&B in Joppa is slightly 'stretching' the Edinburgh description, by the way!

I was getting alittle confused there..one address was for working over seas for travel accomendations the other was a different travel set up...

We have in the US with the National Parks Service a system where you can go work at any of the National Parks and they will give you 20 hours of work per week and you get a free place to either hook up your camper or camp in tents...so you can stay for free basically...but you get no paycheck.

One of these days when I'm an old fart, I'd like to do this.

....basically the focus of it was what they call 'responsible' travel. I just thought it was a neat idea, not only can it be a lot cheaper to go to these places because it is kind of a working holiday....but ye get to help out the community, the environment and learn a lot too. Spend a week helping to restore a historical building in Ireland or Scotland......I'm there! smile.gif
