| Hello, I just found this site by accident, while searching for information on medicinal herbs. I'm of Celtic heritage (1/2 English/1/2 Finnish). I'm not a pagan, but believe and follow some of the practices. I find myself going more and more organic from one year to the next. I live in rural South-Central PA with my husband (Welsh) and 3 girls. I have extensive veggie gardens that I grow organically for my family. We also raise chickens, for eggs and compose uses only, they are pets. I have a number of herbs that I grow for cooking, but now am planning to include medicinal herbs and have started researching. I also sew extensively for the family and run a small sewing business out of my home. I make mainly costumes for my oldest daughter, who is a figure skater, and other local children. I have just started to dabble in making Irish Dance dresses, because my kids were taking lessons, though I can't find a decent school now, close to us. I was able to get patterns from Ireland, when a very old company was closing it's doors, a few years ago. I am trying to make our home and family as self sufficient as possible, I even make my own soaps, etc. I'm on a "NO ARTIFICIAL" anything kick. The site interested me not only for picking the brains of others that may be organic gardeners or have extensive knowledge on the properties of herbs, but also for the music and other Celtic related information. Ok, I think I've did more than introduce myself and I have a habit of babbling. Sorry if I sound long winded. Oh, I'm also looking for music for my daughter's upcoming season, if anyone has any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. I need instrumental music, no words, or a song with at least 3 minutes of instrumental sound that can be cut up to work. Something with a fast-slow-fast beat. We are on the hunt for something really original this season. Angie |

| Welcome to Celtic Radio munbeam. I'm glad that you are enjoying the music and the people that you will find here are very nice. I think its great that you are growing organic. Chickens are great for compost and nothing like fresh eggs. I used to live in the country was wonderful. A lot of work but well worth it. I bet the dresses you make are just beautiful. | Hello Munbeam (Angie)! I am also in South Central Pa. (Lewisberry). You sound like you have an interesting life that is for sure. I've always been into organic or natural living but could never find many people that into it, so I never got that into it. The modern life is too easy for most, so no one wants to step back a little. I have even started a web site which is going to detail herbs used for medicine, but it is in development still. Would love to be a gardner of natural herbs, mostly for cooking, but alas, never had the time to get into it, or the proper space! My daughter currently is an irish dancer (Coyle school), but it is not the best of schools for public performance dancing. It has been good for learning the strict basics, as an individual, and moving up in classification though. There probably is a need for a local person to make dance dresses. Ours all come from Philadelphia or Ireland. Welcome to the site! |

| Thanks everyone for welcoming me. I look forward to hearing from more of you and getting into the other forums/threads. " celticgiraffe": I drive right past your exit every morning. I live in Stewartstown, not the boro but in East Hopewell, in farm country. I have to drive into Harrisburg for my oldest daughter's skating each morning. I know of the Coyle school and thought of taking the kids at one point, but they only have classes in the evening and since most of our morning is already spent away from home, I can't see driving back that way again in the afternoon. My kids are homeschooled, actually Cyber-schooled and they have a lot to get done each day as it is. I don't want to over burden them. My oldest is in HS and between her hours at the rink, off-ice training and the number of classes she's taking, there just isn't much time for anything else. My younger ones were in Tennis but we are taking some time off at the moment. As for growing for your family, you would be surprised what you can grow out of pots, whiskey barrels on a patio, or growing inside or out using hydroponics. Cheap to make your own system and little work required. Also, if you grow organically, there is less watering and maintenance required. I have over 5000 sq ft of veggie gardens, two orchards, more berries than I can keep track of and my hubby just got me a greenhouse. I have a section of property that used to be used for my wildflowers, that I'm going to dedicate to medicinal herbs this spring. I can and preserve our extras. I'm lucky that my mother-in-law had all kinds of stuff she never used and just passed them on to me, saved me bunches, from a pasta maker, apple slicers, pressure cookers, sieves, and an old fashion Sqeeze-O. My husband makes his own beer and I've tried wine, but I had a very big explosion once. I think I'll try again this year though. My chickens are so cool, we have a number of different breeds that lay white, brown and also green eggs. Yes, I said Green, those birds are called Americanas and they lay eggs in every shade of green from drab olive to a bright teal. Right now I have 2 roosters (a Cochin and a Brahma) and 21 hens. Oh, and I have 11 chicks maturing in my downstairs bathroom shower stall. I plan on selling most of them in the spring. So I'm kept quite busy, but I love it. My kids just head outside in the summer and pick what they want and eat. Or we plan our meals around what is harvested that day. The funny thing is I'm a South Floridian, born and bred on the beaches of Palm Beach. My family can't believe I live the way I do now. I need to figure out how to download Pics. Well, my hubby is on his way home and the house still has schoolbooks and papers all over the livingroom. Time for the 15 minute clean up. Look forward to talking to more of you later. Angie |
