QUOTE (CelticRose @ 22-Feb-2007, 05:04 PM)
Hey all. I know there are far more important things going on in the world...like world peace, war in the middle east, our soldiers fighting for our freedom. But sometimes I need a break from that and need entertainment news to ...well entertain me and make me laugh. Sometimes I don't laugh and it makes me cry too.

My recent entertainment news is re both the Anna Nicole Smith and Britney Spears sagas. Anyone interested in discussing?

I feel bad for Brit. She's falling apart and has a bunch of mental issues. Not only that, but it's all in the public eye, so everyone gets to watch her implode.

As for Anna Nicole, man am I sick of her. People are dying every day, and yet I have to constantly hear about this bimbo.

That's my opinon at least.

I think we got this far due to the fact that humans have survived because of intelligence. Most species on the planet evolved some physical way of surviving. Camoflage, physical strength, agility, speed, etc. Also, species usually are confined to only certain geographical environments. Animals evolve to survive in one area based on natural selection. When the environment changes, animals either die or thrive based on how their physical traits match with the environment.

The most sucessful animal speicies are the ones that are the most adaptable. Humans, I would argue, are not very adaptable at all. However, we survived because we have the intelligence to adapt our environment to us. If it's cold, we make warm shelters and clothing. If it's warm we make cooler shelters and clothing.

Physically we are very weak, so we created weapons and armor to make up for it.

My point is that we have created a world where there is nothing natural that can kill us. To that end, we got bored. We have all this intelligence to help us survive, and nothing really to survive against. We have created a system that rewards intelligence, for the most part. That, and from an evolutionary standpoint, the entire human race is bored out of its mind.

So, we create our own conflict. We create enemies of ourselves so that we have a reason to continue to evolve. Plus, if we have the fear of death then we won't be so bored.

I would think a sustained air campaign would be a logical choice IF they attack Iran on any level.

However, they better make sure they have adequate proof that Iran IS seeking nuclear weapons. If, and I'm not saying they are one way or the other, but if Iran doesn't have any evidence of anything other than nuclear technology to power their country...well doing anything against them will set the US back in the global arena. It would be a huge PR nightmare.

If the government can prove that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons, well I wouldn't be surprised if they use this as a way to get us out of Iraq and still continue the War on Terror. I don't know how this would work logistically, but a new enemy would look a lot better in the news than more Iraq failures.

Here are some more interesting facts about this story. All of these are from my following of the story on cnn.com.

Apparently Turner is going to pay 2 million to homeland security and several agencies for the incident.

The advertisments appeared in nine other cities with no similar chaos.

My thing is this...even if they WERE explosive devices, why did the city create all the chaos while doing their investigation? Why didn't they realize what the ads were after investigating one of the devices and then just take down the rest without making a huge deal?

And why is it that nine other cities were able to handle the situation without major incident?

It's just rediculous. I mean, I don't even consider it a hoax. A hoax to me is where someone creates a fake bomb and calls it such, or calls in a fake bomb threat. This was simply overreaction.

I suspect that someone in Boston dropped the ball and mishandled this to the point of causing the panic and decided to drop the blame on those two guys that put them up and turner brodcasting rather than take the fall themselves.

First of all, it isn't the criminal justice system that set up the registry. It's the voting public and the politicians.

I think the sexual offender registry is a bad idea. It doesn't mean that these people aren't rehabilitated, but it does hurt their chances of becoming rehabilitated.

I understand people feel strongly about these criminals. I do too. But I do not see how having a sexual offender registry helps people protect their children. In this day in age, the KNOWN predators are probably less dangerous than the UNKNOWN ones. The ones who haven't yet been caught and sent through the system. The sad fact is that people should be vigilant and teach their children about avoiding sexual offenders whether registered offenders live in their area or not.

How can someone rehabilitate after they have served their punishment if they are going to be branded with this label the rest of their lives by society? In my opinion, no matter what the crime, if you've served your time then your slate should be wipped clean. Otherwise, what is the point of the criminal justice system? Is it simply a place to hold criminals for a certain amount of time before letting them out to do the crime again? If that's all our justice system is good for, then it isn't good enough.

A lot of people poo poo rehabilitation. They say these criminals don't deserve anything as soft as rehabilitation. Well, without rehabilitation, all we are doing is waiting for these people to get out of prison just to have another victim hurt and send them right back. I wouldn't mind so much, except for the fact that someone else has to be hurt before they go back. I'd rather work towards rehabilitation and cut back on the repeat offenders (and additional victims) rather than just recycle criminals.

And as for vigilante justice? If you find someone in the middle of raping a child? Great. I say do what you will. But after the fact? People, even children, lie or make mistakes of identity. We have a justice system for a reason. If we ran out and lynch mobbed every suspected sexual offender or criminal then a lot of innocent people would die. Even with our justice system innocent people are convicted of crimes all the time.

I've been thinking a lot about the rut that I've dug myself into with my life. I've been trying to figure out what I want for my future and the career I want to pursue.

I've also been thinking about ways to improve my life and make me happier instead of just getting by.

To start with, I believe that the energy in everything is changed and tainted (not necessarily in a bad way) by everything it comes in contact with. The energy of a rock, for example, would take on properties and the essence of the rock.

People are no different. The energy that fills us, our spirit if you will, takes on qualities of us.

I believe that ghosts are the energy left over when people die. The type of ghost would depend not only on how a person dies, but also how strongly their energy took on their essence while they were alive.

That's my idea anyway.

I thought everyone in the government was somehow responsible.

It's like the comic Lewis Black says:

Republicans are the party of bad ideas,
Democrats are the party of no ideas.

Oh my goodness. The Terrorists are saying they won the election. That must mean...(gasp) the democrats are terrorists!

Or...the terrorists like the democrats! Maybe we should all attack the democrats now since the terrorists sent them a message!

Since when did we start listening to anything the terrorists had to say about our government?

Once again, this isn't a matter or liberal versus conservative, democrat vs republican.

This is the issue of one kid gets freaked out by something, or their parents don't want them exposed to something for ANY reason, and so because one isn't allowed all of a sudden everyone must suffer.

Parent's do this kind of thing all the time in the name of "protecting" their kids.

Honestly, I'm all for equal treatment, but people just need to lighten up. Since when have we become so sensitive that being wished a Merry anything is enough to set people off?

Do they have valid reasons for not liking him, or do they just generally not like him?

I would try to play the game, as it is hard to lose friends...but you have to do what you have to do.
