EONS.
I look upon
The world of Man
And know the Eons
It has spanned
For it was I
Who left the trees
To walk upright
With straight'ed knees.
The sharp'ed branch
I first beheld
To hunt my prey
That I could fell.
I revelled when fire
Left the skies
Brought warmth to earth
And Banished night
Made all creatures
Cower in fright.
On sharpened rock
I cut my flesh
And found the grey one
Was the best
To strip the hide
And cut the meat
That I could cook
With fires' heat.
Long have I looked
On the world of Man
And lived the Eons
It has spanned.
I've witness'd things
To thrill the Heart
And others that
Have chilled the Soul
Mans' rise and falls
His schemes, his dreams
The greatness
And the pettiness
The courage and the fears
How Godlike can
This creature be
How cruel and Barbarous
So kind and patient
With a child
So fearsome with his foes.
He can show Honour
Or Deceit, or benevolence
And in an Anger
Black as Hell
He can Destroy it all.
Long have I looked
Upon Mans' World
And watched the Eons pass.

I like this poem very much for the way human evolution is describe in it.But if I read correctly would it be the Creator at some point that speaks through your poem?

Good work Camac.

My Lady, no it is not the Creator. It is I or what I think would happen. I close my eyes and picture myself there or in that situation then write what comes to mind.
A girl friend I once had was convinced that I was an Ancient Soul who had been around for Eons. I don't believe in that stuff but sometime I wonder.

That's what I thought. You are an ancient soul to write so many beautiful poems.

Thanks my friend.

LOA;

My Lady, I had lunch to-day with my Aunt Kathleen, the last of the Lee Women, my Moms' sister. and I gave her a folder with 30 of my poems in it. After reading it
did she say thank you they're nice. No she gave me what for because I didn't stay in University and become a History or English Prof. Families Eh. What. Eventually she did thank me and say they were good.

Well I'm sure your aunt loves you verra much my dear and she was right you know to scold you for not staying in University nono.gif

How much would I have given to have the opportunity to study but unfortunately my father who was a construction working man did not believe in education. Nobody in my family have a diploma except my younger sister who went to college only for a year.

It's a great gift you gave her I'm sure she was very happy and will read it while relaxing with a cup of tea.

Your right on both counts. I have 2 1/2 years of University, I quit because I was bored and to be honest I wasn't learning anything I didn't already know. I'm not making myself out to be a genius or an elitist it just that what they were teaching I had already read. Should have stuck it out though. The mistakes of youth.

Great poetry inspires great discussion.

Myself, being left brained, (no political pun intended). I wish that I had worked harder at reading in my youth, so I could have learned from the experience of others, rather then having to live the experiences, first hand, but then I guess life experiences is a given, no matter what.

For those of you who may not know. (Like countless people read this stuff?) The term “left brained” means good artist, poor reader. So naturally I was channeled into the commercial art field, studding at S.V.A. (which stands for School of Visual Arts). To cut to the chase, it all served me well.

For me anyway, I do have regrets, but it’s still nice to be in the game, even if you seem to be playing catch up, all the time.

So keep them coming Camac, I read them,
JC

JC.

I don't know if I'm left brained or right. I do know that I love to read and write but I also love working with my hands. I guess that why I became an electrician.
I also love woodworking. Any way I have few if any regrets although it would have been nice to be a History or English Professor. I do have a strange quirk and that is I write far better English than I speak. Comes from wanting to fit in with my peers I think. I think I might have a minor speech impediment for I have always found some words very difficult to pronounce ie; linoleum, aluminum, ( I use Aluminium instead) cinnamom, weird I know. Any who my Friend I'm glad you like the poems.
