Interesting. It is important to keep in mind that much of what we know about Celtic Druids is fragmentary and based on third party accounts.
It is quite likely that the ancient Druid class was akin to the Brahmin caste of India, which is to say they were the Celtic professional class, and included teachers, bards, poets, doctors, and lawyers (to use modern terms), as well as religious and spiritual leaders.
IMHO, modern self-styled Druids have little, if any, connection to Celtic Druids. As with India's Brahmins, it is likely that Celtic Druids largely inherited their status as such. I would be surprised if any of today's "Druids" could trace their lineage back to a Celtic Druid.
I think it would be much correct for today's "Druids" to say that they were inspired by Celtic Druids, rather than to claim any real link to them.

Agreed. There is so much unknown that it would be impossible to truely understand them. However, I believe the neo-pagan druids do an amiable job at emulating it with the information they have avaliable. The Druidic path has a completely new definition, and will never be like it once was. I believe, however, they're doing what they can to emulate that path with what little information that is avaliable. And I, for one, do respect that. smile.gif

I should have saved this article in my bookmarks, but I was reading they found a stonehedge like site in Russia which would make you wonder the extent of the Celtic/Gaelic culture in the ancient world.

Although Stonehenge actually predates Celtic/Gaelic culture by a couple thousand years, if your really interested in stone megaliths check out the Stone Pages.
