CLAPSHOT

Clapshot is delicious with Haggis and Cod with mustard sauce. A traditional Orkney dish, it is widely eaten in the North of Scotland.

1 lb potatoes
4 shallots, or
1 tbsp chopped chives
1 lb white or yellow turnips
1 heaped tbsp butter or dripping
salt and pepper to taste

Boil vegetables separately, drain.
Mash very well, adding all other ingredients.
Season to taste, serve hot.

Serves 4 - 6.

I tried your recipe but didn't use the turnips, being in the "deep South" I used rutabaga's and it was good...now getting down the Haggis is another thing. I last had it in Stirling fried ( it was breaded and fried))I couldn't get but 2-3 bits down...so I'll take your receipe and use it with something else OK? Please send other ideas. I get bored eating the same stuff all of the time. wink.gif
