On March 10, Cathie Ryan performed in Flagstaff at the Cline Library Auditorium. This is a great venue for Celtic music. there are a good amount of seats and you can get close to the performers.
Cathie Ryan is a legend in Celtic music. She first gained fame singing Cherish the Ladies. She has had a very successful solo career for many years now. One publication named her Singer of the Decade.
Cathie was definitely on her game. She has a very good interacting presence with the audience. Her voice is still strong and clear. She can take you to Ireland with her voice. the concert lasted about two hours and included many of the songs from her project The Farthest Wave. Bill Magnuson has declared this the greatest Celtic album of all time. That, of course, is up for debate, but it definitely shows an artist at the top of her craft! Cathie is Irish-American, but has now maintains her residence in Ireland. Anytime you get to hear her sing, you just have to go. As with most Celtic artists, she enjoys visiting with fans and signing Cd's.
With her was the fiddle player, Emerald Rae. She has been a featured artist here on Highlander Radio. The girl can flat out play. She is good at the up tempo stuff, but also knows how to play the slow aires and backup other vocalists without overwhelming them. Emerald certainly has a bright future! And if I can ever get the uploading process figured out, I'll add some photos of the concert!
