Tonight we are building the new Celtic Radio web server. Our new web server will be running on a HP 200 G1 server with a 2.40Ghz Quad Core Pentium processor.

Installing our select version of the Linux operating system took less than 10 minutes and most of that process was setup parameters.

We should see a slight speed improvement as we move from a dual processor to quad processor.

Next step will be to copy over all of our backup files and then see how it runs in a test environment. This will also be a good test to see if our backup plan actually works.

Considering the speed improvement, we might try experimenting with running our database software on the web machine or possibly setting up somesort of dual database system to offload some of the resources. Will see.

Amazing to witness the progression of servers we have used over the years. I think our first server maybe ran at 133 mhz. My times have changed!

The graveyard of old Celtic Radio servers continues to grow!

Well a little bad news. It is going to take much longer to configure the new Linux server and to test if it works with Celtic Radio.

Mean while our old server has some bad sectors on the drive and pending overwrites which probably are not good. Since the OS is from 2010? that version is no longer supported so it is not as simple as configuring that version of Linux which we know works well with Celtic Radio.

So the long and short of it is the site could go down at anytime. We might look into just replacing the webserver hard drive if we can figure out how to make an exact duplicate of the drive!

The saga continues... unsure.gif

Making progress, we now have a fully working Linux OS and expect to be moved to the new server in probably several days to a week. Much appreciate your support to keep our hardware functioning and hence Celtic Radio! thumbs_up.gif

We are happy to report that we have successfully moved the Celtic Radio web server environment to a new server machine and as of March 15th at 11:25am everything appears to be working properly.

Without this move, our web server was on its way to a slow death with hardware failing. Possibly we would have been down for weeks to a month while we configured a new server for our special environment.

To prevent this in the future, we are making clone backups of the web server and will periodically be making a clone image using Clonezilla to insure the long term survival of Celtic Radio!

Hey I do not know if anyone else experienced a problem today...but when I tried to log on all day I kept get a "server down - error" message every time I tried to access the website. The funny thing was that I was still able to listen to Celtic Moon on Live365 all day long. I just tried to visit the website a little while ago and had no problems???
Maybe it's just Philly, after all we did just decapitate that poor hitching robot a couple of days ago. I guess they have to take back the nickname "City of brotherly love".....
