RTE changes ‘grammatically wrong’ name after 43 years

The national broadcaster has changed its name from Radio Telefis Eireann to Raidio Teilifis Eireann after 43 years. Please do not adjust your set.

RTE has just changed its official title, 43 years after first being named. The broadcaster, formerly known as Radio Telefis Eireann, has altered its name to Raidio Teilifis Eireann after discovering that the original was grammatically incorrect, the organisation said this weekend. Staff have received a memo alerting them to the name change.

The public service broadcaster, which estimates that its revenue will fall short of its operating costs by ¤68m this year, is now planning to alter all official documentation following its renaming. A spokeswoman said that costs associated with the project will be minimal.
