The Fae!, all things faery discussion

Another quick story:
While drumming around the fire for my woman's lugnass celebration, I decided to "show off" a lil bit, and rip a beat on my djembe that I was taught as a slightly difficult riff to play for an extended period of time. As I played the beat, the echo from the base of my drum filled the aire, the fire grew brighter, and my woman and one of my students started to follow this intricate rift with the same or more powerful beats though they never heard the beat before (this I am sure of). When I drum I always dedicate part of myself to the wilderness to show my appreciation for the earth mother, and in this case I guess that the fae liked it so much that the inspired the others to jam the same beat. Soon after they stopped playing I asked how they learned the beat so quickly, and in front of the priestess they just looked at me and said...."what we were not playing?" The priestess and I looked at them with a puzzled look and wrote it off as Mom really liking the music.

Celiciastar! In all honesty I don't believe in them either, but yet I love anything to do with faeries. I have a whole studio room full of them. When my church friends come over and see them, I know they must truly wonder about me.........but I don't care. I love my fairy dolls and love the fairy tales and pictures of them. Plus, I just love the fantasy of it all! My imagination just goes wild!

thanks celticrose! I'm glad you feel the same way as I do. I love the stuff and I don't care what my religious friends say. They can just deal with it! haha!

So who says the Fae don't exist? There's as much proof for them as for the worlds Gods. To quote the Bard, There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. Man I'm in a devils advocate mood today.

I don't want to start any trouble, but a simple question:
I can understand if a person says that they do or do not believe in Fae, thats as easy for a person to say as a person to say that they do or do not believe in a god. That is a personal belief, but how can it be against a religion to believe or not in Fae, I am confused. I know some christians that believe that unicorns existed, and some pagans who believe in some christian happenings...just wondering if someone could elaborate on that a lil bit.

I'll give it a shot. Remember, this is entirely my own view of things and not a put down of anyone elses beliefs. To me faith is the acceptance of the Creator in whatever form you understad and all of creation in it's wonders, beauty and magic. In my view Unicorns, the Fae and everything else is possible somewhere, someplace and in some level of reality. Religion is different. Religion is a manmade construct aimed at power, control and regulation. A means of enforcing dominance of a few over the many. Nobody has convinced me that I need anyone standing between myself and the Creator nor does anyone else have more understanding of the Creator, which I think of as the Goddess, than I can have. Fancy robes and a following don't mean anything more than power over others. I think we all need to find our own path, of which there are many to the same destination.

Oh well, I never intended for this to get into an theological discussion. I just don't see evidence of Faes. I know they were in fairy tales and in paintings and I love them and have them all in my home, because I love the fantasy of it all. But just because you like something, doesn't mean it is really real. I mean look at Leprechauns! The Irish don't even believe in them. It is an American made thing and a great tourist attraction when they go to Ireland and the Irish have played on this and sold lots of items of the Leprechaun because the Americans want it!

Like my Grandfather used to say, believe in everything. It might get you in trouble but it makes life a damned sight more colorful.

Well that is true, Bubba. I would like to believe in Faes and Leprechauns and in the meantime I will just fantasize and enjoy them in my home!

I did not intend on a conflict by any means I just didnt understand, but now I do and thanks to bubba and rose for the enlightenment. I personnally believe in Fae, and here is why. Haven't you ever just sworn that you placed something somewhere, and then it wasn't there 5 min later. Shakespeare's depiction of Robin Goodfellow (Puck) is enough for me to believe. It is just a gut feeling I guess. Catholics pray to St. Anthony for lost goods right? well why could it not be that it was because of another spirit that it is lost in the first place? To put another christian spin on it... St. John Galberg (I know I spelled that wrong) is the patron saint of lumberjacks, my friends pray to him before they enter the forest so that they are safe, and that no "suprises" happen that could cause injury, but when asked they do also say that they pray to the litany of saints so that the saints can help the spirits of the woods understand that what they do is good for the forest. They also joke and say that is why I go with them...

Quick story:
There was one time I was on a timber management cruise, and cut. There just was something that just did not feel right with this day....an unsettling feeling. As we marked the trees for a regeneration plot, the feeling got so strong that all members of the crew just had a feeling that ther was something just not right. So we elected to go back to some of the trees and just inspect them to make sure it was all ok. Well one old maple tree was selected for removal so that there would be more sun into the understory to promote regeneration....We knew it was hollow, and would not last a few more years anyway. The tree has a large cavity by the ground level that measured .75 meters wide by 2.5 meters high...I pointed my flashlight in it, and sure enough I saw a tuft of black fur....not a coon or a skunk, but an Ursus americana....A young black bear settled in the tree for non-diaposic hibernation! Needless to say we re-marked the tree as a "save" and went on our way feeling 110% better.

Celticwoodsman, I don't think there's really any conflict at all, just varied views of reality. To me the world is truely a magical place in spite of what Man does. I don't believe our current technological reality is the only one there is any more than I believe this life is all we get. There are just too many things that happen in life that can't be explained by "rational" means to accept the cold scientific philosophy as the final word on existance. I've personally seen far too much to close my mind to possibilities. Far too often I've had a feeling that I should do this rather than that, go this way and not that way with no real idea why. Sometimes it's almost like a quiet voice inside my head. Yeah, I know, some people would say that's crazy, but it's saved my life on more than one occassion and the times I've ignored it or been unable to follow the feeling I've suffered for it. Life is a puzzle inside a mystery.

I believe that there is definitely a spiritual world out there, but from a Christian perspective. I have feelings that tell me to do this or not do that, but for me it is God's spirit intervening and guiding me, not a fairy. but I sure do love them. I have a poster painting hung up in my studo of a beautiful Fae and I have all kinds of porceleon Fae dolls in there too. It is like walking into fairy land when you go into my studio! I love it!

CelticRose, as I've said, different paths to the same ultimate destination. God, Goddess, Angels, the Fae, Allah, whatever a person chooses to believe and follow. The real heart of the matter is faith. Each person has to choose the path that suits them. The paths may be different and beliefs differ, but the goal is the same. I fully respect people who live by the beliefs they hold and don't try to twist them to their own convenience. I'm just one more seeker on the road.

I hear ya, Bubba! What is truth for one is not for another and I respect that in each individual and never try to impose my beliefs on anybody. I was just simply sharing what I personally believe. Glad you understood that!

Now do you know of any movies about the Fae out there? I saw one once and I be dang if I can remember the name of it. It was about a family who moved to Ireland and on their property was a mine and when the kids went down searching, they found all sorts of stuff and the Fae were trapped inside. The kids were able to release them and as a result the Fae healed their father who was ill. It was a really neat story.

I know that movie! Seen it once, Wouldn't call it a great movie, but decent at least. I don't remember the title either, but seems like it had the word "Blue" in it somewhere... I may be wrong
