What Movies Have You Seen Recently?, Old and new

Hi all,

My wife and I saw Stardust today and I'm guessing it was the 11:00am time that kept people away - I thought there would be lots of high school and college kids there, just a week before school starts, but we had a total of 12 women and one other fellow there besides me! Yes, we had room to stretch out in a theater that seats over 400!

The movie was good, but it didn't move very fast in some places and I did not feel that Robert Di Nero was cast right as a gay ship's captain, nor did I particularly care for all the semi-violent witchcraft, but the story was very well staged, the scenery was truly beautiful and the actors did a very able job.

Purchased the DVD of "Wild Hogs"
Old men on motorcycles, what a hoot. It's not a must see, but fun if you need a lift. You will laugh.

Finally saw Tristan & Isolde. Unfortunately the copy of the movie from Netflix was damaged. We had to skip about 3-4 scenes to get thru it. Still enjoyed it though.

That has happened to me 3 or 4 times with Netflix. I always clean the disc, too before I watch it. I really like the service.

Had to watch the High School Musical 2 Premiere on Friday night. My daughters had a sleep-over and watched the movie. As I said before...I'm a musical geek, so I think I enjoyed it as much as the girls did.

Just watched "Knocked Up" ... ok it had it's moments but I didn't think it was as good, by a long way, as the reviews say! far toooooooo much "F" word and not very funny.. in my opinion.

maybe I just don't get/like american humour:)

Today being Labor Day, I sat in front of the t.v. and watched Laurel and Hardy in "the Music Box" followed by Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole in "Becket"

I recently saw the movie Fracture with Anthony Hopkins I thought it was a good suspense mystery.

The Godfather (part 1) was next on my list, but they sent me The Seven Little Foys instead! I sent it back without even watching it.

oh no jp, Sorry to hear that happened I don't have a clue what the movie you sent back The Seven Little Foys would be about. I would of done the same. I hope they re-send you the one you ordered. Let us know.

Saw Stardust this past weekend. A very enjoyable film but I really wish they hadn't deviated form the book so much. I agree about DiNero's part. The ship captain wasn't gay in the book and even if he was the part did not seem to fit him to well. Believe or not he violence was toned down for the witches from the book. Get the book with the illustrations from Charles Vess and you will see what I mean. The dead princes were hilarious. The movie ending is better but I don't want to give away any spoilers. Still it was pretty close to the book for the most part and some of the locations from Skye were beautiful. It's still a fun movie to see and I hope someone redoes it someday via Lord of the Rings style.

It seems our local video store has no ads in its monthly flyer for Wind that Shakes the Barley so it seems I again get to buy a movie if I want to see it.

My Wife and I just watched "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" tonight with David Niven and Doris Day. It is still a good movie but I would rather watch some of those older ones than some of these new things they call movies. The other night I watched "The Maltese Falcon" with Humphrey Bogart and tomorrow I am shooting for "Lawrence of Arabia" with Peter O'Tool.

"Wind That Shakes the Barley", about two brothers during the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921) and the ensuing Civil War; one brother joining the pro-treaty National Army of Michael Collins, the other the anti-treaty IRA of De Valera. I believe that it's a fair and historically accurate depiction of life in Ireland in those times, including very good depictions of an IRA flying column and the beastly behavior of their enemies the RIC Reserve Force; the hated Black and Tans, whose atrocities against civilian noncombatants were so ghastly they turned even English opinion against the war, including that of George V.

Found my complete box set of Charlie Chaplin silent films on VHS...
