ANTHOLOGY, INC. PARTNERS WITH THE IRISH CULTURAL CENTER FOR THE 1ST EVER LIMERICK CHALLENGE ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14, 2007.

Anthology, Inc., the leading literary arts organization in Phoenix, has partnered with the Irish Cultural Center to present a raucous competition where poets will present their best Limericks on the night of March 14th, 2007. Doors open at 7:00 pm Show starts at 8:00 pm. The public is invited to come and indulge in the hilariously funny poetry form we have all enjoyed since childhood.
Anthology is offering ten poets the chance to win a $100 prize in a head-to-head Limerick competition. Prizes will also be awarded for the best Nantucket limerick, funniest limerick, and other creative categories.

Wikipedia describes a limerick is a five-line poem with a strict meter, popularized by Edward Lear. The first line traditionally introduces a person and a location, and usually ends with the name of the location, though sometimes with that of the person. A true limerick is supposed to have a kind of twist to it. This may lie in the final line, or it may lie in the way the rhymes are often intentionally tortured, or in both.

The show has a $7 cover, and takes place the same week as the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Faire. One of the year’s most celebrated cultural events, the Faire runs from 11:00am to 5pm on March 17, 2007 and features Irish Music, Step dancing, Bagpipers, Food & Beverages, and much more.
