CLAPSHOT

Clapshot is delicious with Haggis. A traditional Orkney dish, it is widely eaten in the North of Scotland.

1 lb. potatoes
1 lb. white or yellow turnips (or swedes)
4 chopped shallots, or
1 tbs. chopped chives
1 tbs. butter or dripping, heaped
salt and pepper to taste
sprinkle of mace or nutmeg if desired

1. Boil potatoes and turnips separately, drain.
2. Mash very well, adding all other ingredients.
3. If desired, add sprinkle of mace or nutmeg.
4. Season to taste, serve hot.

Clapshot is quite good but traditionally haggis is served with nips and tatties (as far as I know) ;)

nips and tatties are the un-mashed version I think
clapshot (mashed) it's quite good too (we call it: Möhrendurcheinander and it's a well known dish in Germany too)

:D Hey aren't you glad Columbus found us, before that you Europians just had the nips. Of course with out the taters, so many Irish wouldn't have been put off the land, and come to USA.

Neeps and tatties are just the Scots words for turnips (swedes, the orange ones, not the white smaller ones!;) and potatoes....  whether mashed or otherwise.
