So happy to hear your feedback it just makes our day!

We work really hard on having the right mix of music which allows for a mix of really excellent Celtic Music with new artists and musicians - which can be tough. We also like to cycle through the different sub-genres like bagpipes, harp music and pub music - but who wants to hear just one sub-genre all the time.

For myself, I find the music helps me be productive and focus on my work. It's also a great release to when I want to get away from the never ending pop 40 hits on the radio. And as shared with a member of the Elders many years - it's going to be hard to reproduce our mix of sounds.

So a great big THANK YOU back at you! Made our day!

We recently received a note from one of our listeners from Israel that was unable to tune-in to the music because their employer was blocking the internet stream. She spoke with the ADMIN of their system and unfortunately there was nothing that could be done about it due to default blocking programs.

We have many members that listen while at work, but unfortunately many employers like to block internet radio and do not understand the benefits that music brings to productivity and the workplace. If you are unable to tune in at work, it could be that your employer is blocking the stream. As a solution, we offer three of broadcasts using a Web Proxy system that may allow you to tune-in when the stream is being blocked

  • Highlander Radio
  • Salty Dog Radio
  • Celtic Moon

To access the special streaming system, please visit the MUSIC section under the DASHBOARD and scroll down to WEB Proxy listening.

Love the Celtics but never understood why us Bostonians pronounce it as SSSSeltics instead of the true form of Keltics.

If anyone has this story, would love to hear the history on it.

And yes, we are Celtic Music not Celtic Basket Ball! biggrin.gif

Yes, we do have a mobile APP and we do have mobile listening, but the best way to listen to Celtic Radio when in the car is if you have the Tune-In App.

You can bring up the Celtic Radio Network App and then bluetooth it to your car, but if you have the dash board system called Apple Car Play or for the Android, simply download the tune-in App and then search for Highlander Radio or any of our other channels to connect in-car.

It's wonderful to be blasting out some pipe tunes while rolling down 95. I usually turn it down a bit at traffic lights, but sometimes not and get a few looks. thumbs_up.gif biggrin.gif

We thought about producing a video to show how to do this if anyone is interested.

We are going to try something a little different this month for our July CD contest. We have three really great CDs available which includes Saor Patrol's latest CD. Saor Patrol is headed up by Charlie Allen - you've seen him in movies such as King Arthur, Snow White and the Huntsman, Gladiator and Robin Hood and he thought enough of us to send a stash of his latest CDs for Celtic Radio listeners to enjoy. If you like bagpipes, of the rock version, you will definitely like Saor Patrol.

Here are the CDs up for grabs this month:

<a href="http://www.celticradio.net/php/playlist.php?start=0&limit=25&letter=&search=Kilted+For+Her+Pleasure&type=album&exact=exact"> <img border="0" hspace="5" vspace="5" src="http://www.celtichearts.com/php/images/album_covers_tb/az_B9783_Kilted%20For%20Her%20Pleasure_Marc%20Gunn.jpg" width="100" height="100"></a> <a href="http://www.celticradio.net/php/playlist.php?start=0&limit=25&letter=&search=Battle+of+Kings&type=album&exact=exact"> <img border="0" hspace="5" vspace="5" src="http://www.celtichearts.com/php/images/album_covers_tb/az_B6154_Battle%20of%20Kings_Saor%20Patrol.jpg" width="100" height="100"></a> <a href="http://www.celticradio.net/php/playlist.php?start=0&limit=25&letter=&search=This+Time&type=album&exact=exact"> <img border="0" hspace="5" vspace="5" src="http://www.celtichearts.com/php/images/album_covers_tb/az_B2431_This%20Time_SugaTree.jpg" width="100" height="100"></a>

So, we are going to give away these CDs in a raffle, but here is the thing. You have to post a message and a picture in the Celtic Radio App Chat feature. Its our new Social place on the App and we just made some improvements to it.

Load up the App and click on the Chat Icon to access and post away. We will randomly choose the CD winners for that month from within the App.

To download the App for your mobile device, visit our mobile website here:

http://celticradio.one/mobile/index.html

scroll to the bottom and choose the mobile system you have. Or just search for "Celtic Radio Network" in the store of your choice. Its Free!

I was reading a Top Ten movie list for Celtic type movies and came across a move that I have never seen before. In fact, I don't know how I missed this because apparently it was one of the most watched series in 2001.

It is called the Mists of Avalon and it is about the King Arthur stories, Merlin, Uther, Lancelot. Tried to find it on streaming and it is no where to be found.

So, purchased the DVD from Amazon and watched the first hour. It is very long over 3 hours. A good movie I am enjoying it.

5,500-year-old passage tomb at

Dowth is ‘find of a lifetime’

user posted image

A 5,500-year-old passage tomb uncovered at Dowth Hall in the heart of the Brú na Bóinne World Heritage site in Co Meath is “the most significant megalithic find in Ireland in the last 50 years”, archaeologists believe.

Dr Ní Lionáin said the people who built the tombs would probably have been “the children or grandchildren or great grandchildren of some of the first farmers in Ireland”.

“In terms of designing these monuments, they were really good architects, engineers and also astronomers, because we often get alignments on various different solstices. And we can also see from what the art we have here they were amazing artists as well. Even though we don’t know what this art means, everyone who comes here is struck by this art.”

Scotland's 5,000-year-old carved stone balls.

Shrouded in mystery!

user posted image

Hundreds of elaborately carved stone balls dating from Prehistoric Scotland have been discovered over the centuries, but their purpose remains a mystery.

More than 500 of the stone balls have been found in total, most sized to fit neatly into the palm of the hand. They have been shaped so that a number of knobs protrude from the surface and some have beautiful, intricate patterns incised onto them.

So elaborate are the carvings that early archaeologists didn't believe it was possible for them to have been made using flint tools, so they dated them to a later period. But we know they were indeed carved using flint and date back to around 3,200 BC to 2,500 BC, a time when people in Scotland were leaving their lives as hunter gatherers and settling into life in farming communities.

My only problem with games in general for Android or Apple is they all charge money. Like you can start for free, but then you have to buy things.

I agree if anyone knows of any totally free Celtic games or even ones that have a one-time charge that would be ideal.

Our vendor for the web player has released another update which has been applied and fixes the Chrome issue. Chrome has disabled auto-play, so now with the update the player button shows properly to start the stream.

Hopefully with these updates the stream has stabilized using the web player.

The Gothard Sisters stand out as a really hard-working group of musicians, keeping close bonds not only with family, but also with the roots of a genre of music they know and love deeply. Folk music is timeless, pure and unadulterated, and one of the most intriguing things about The Gothard Sisters is that they keep celebrating their love for the genre, while stamping their own personality on the music they perform. As a result, listeners can enjoy something that’s broader and more direct, definitely allowing the band to combine their musicianship with their compositional sensibilities...

We've been doing some work pretty much everywhere and on the broadcasts so they might have gone done incidentally.

If you continue to have issues with the web player, we would suggest you use the direct player such as the windows player or winamp or any other direct media player will be alot more stable that the web player which can experience interference from browser plugins and other traffic.

The web player is good if you are listening for less than an hour, but for long term listening we would suggest the direct player.

Thanks for the feedback Ogden much appreciated.

There has been some recent changes to some browsers and systems with playing audio files. We may not have the most recent code for this, but we just did some updates this morning.

For our Celtic Radio Founders, if you find that the web player is a little clunky, then please use the direct links below the album cover on the player page or from within the web player there are direct links.

Would recommend the windows link for windows machines, etc.

We may need to go with another vendor for our web player if we can't get it solved....

Hi Angelique,

Thanks for reporting this issue. We have been having a difficult time tracking down the bug, but hopefully now we have fixed it.

If you can try accessing the premium player page by the links in the dashboard or the LISTEN NOW button. If it does not play or work, try refreshing the page to make sure you have the latest version.

Let me know if it works and again our apologies.

Thank you WallaceGal!

Yes, we are getting some reports of the web player not functioning. We did just upgrade the player a few days ago, so it is possible that people's browser are trying to play a "cached" version of the player.

We've also re-enable autoplay, and it does work for IE and Firefox. Chrome seems to need a little nudge - press the play button even though it appears to be playing.

Hello,

We are looking for a little feedback on our web player as we understand some people may not be able to hear the music.

If you are unable to listen with the web player using our Tune-In link, please let us know here. If you could post what operating system and browser you are using that would be great too.

If the web player is working - let us know that too. Much appreciated!

Thank you very much. Yes, Celtic Moon is a channel to get lost in.

Ok, so the web player issue has been fixed and has been tested in IE, Chrome, Firefox which are the major web browsers and all work fine.

Any issues, please post here and we will look into.

Also, going forward the web player will need to be started once it is open. You will see the play button right in the middle of the Celtic Circle.

We are having a little issue with our web player right now. For premium members (Celtic Radio Founder's Club) simply use the direct listen buttons under the player or the album cover to hear the music.

We think there was some update to browsers that has caused our web player to get a little clunky. It actually does work, you just need to click it 1-2 times the player button.

Our apologies, we have a lot of little projects we are working on including replacing our radio server with a solid state SSD drive that has actually increased the sound quality and building a completely new Celtic Radio web server which is going to take some time to get the site running under new technology.

We will be looking at that web player soon and again our apologies.

We listen to a ton of music every day, and every once in a while, we have the pleasure to come across something truly special. This is definitely the case of Charlie Zahm and his brand new release, “Sing Me A Song Of A Lad Who Is Gone”.

Throughout his extensive career, Charlie managed to stand out as a great soloist, bringing the feel, sound and spirit of Celtic music to stages throughout the USA. His deep, baritone vocals have been described as “once-in-a-generation” and Charlie received praise and accolades for his work.
