I'm sure you all were kidding, but just to clear up the record.... I don't believe in locking children away it was merely an example. My children all have they're own ideas and my husband and I respect that.

Maybe next time some people will read the posts and not just wait for they're turn to talk.

QUOTE (JaneyMae @ Dec 22 2003, 02:27 PM)
QUOTE (Elspeth @ Dec 22 2003, 12:10 PM)
When people get upset by a Wiccan teacher, the question is of course why. What are people afraid of? They are afraid of something, otherwise it wouldn't be a problem.

You've hit it! People are afraid of anything that's different. They were never taught to think outside the box or even think for themselves! thumbsup.gif

Exactly! People fear what they do not understand. And if they go through life wearing blinders to the diversity of the world, they will inturn pass that same fear/intolerance to thier childern.

Childern aren't threatend by diversity. Parents are! *MOST* young childern are very honest in thier perception of things. You ask a little kid if you have a big head, they will tell you if you do! Like it or not...... Most don't care if your black, white purple, pagan, jewish ...etc...... You put a group of young childern in a room together, all they want to do is play. Color, race, ethnicity doesn't play into it... Sure they don't know what it is.... but at the basic level of life.... it dosen't matter.... Only as adult do labels come into the picture....

Childern are who adults should look towards in learning tolerance.

On this same note. As my hubby says, "Ignorance is taught not learned". if you but a black child and a white child in a room from birth til they were 18 with no outside influence when they get out will have NO idea what racism is. Nor would they see the other as a different color at all, just a darker or lighter shade of themselves.

Well this discussion has taken a few different turns! I LOVE IT! You all make great points and I look forward to reading them everyday.

Ok My turn to rant biggrin.gif

I was raised in what I thought was a tolerant house until I told them I no longer believed it God. Now suddenly I'm the evil one thats going to burn in h..well you get the picture. Now every time I want to talk to my little brother or sister my mom says "Don't you dare say anything to them about Wicca". So needless to say when my sister saw my pentical she asked me why I wear a devil symbol and I can't tell her anything about it or correct her. I asked my mom the same question I ask you all about a Wiccan teaching and she told my she would do anything she could to get the teacher removed. This is not the same woman I grew up with. I asked her what she would do if a Jewish person was teaching she said she wouldn't do anything. Does that make sense? I asked her to explain why and she said Jewdisim (SP?) was like Christianity, they both believe in God, Wiccans don't. So that was her big argument. Nice!

Ok I think I'm done. biggrin.gif
*steps away from the micraphone.

Just an update. I sent this to my mother to try and help her understand what I believe in. My step dad saw it and made my mom erasse it before my brother and sister came home and saw it. And my mom wonders why I say the kids are sheltered!

I write poetry because I sometimes have trouble expressing how I feel. I'm very emotional and cry at the drop of a dime, so when I have something really emotional to say I write it out and it becomes poetry. I'm usually crying while I write my poetry, well except the funny ones of course.

I also write because there are some people in my life that I can never tell what is on my mind. So I keep it locked away inside. it builds and builds untill I can't take it anymore and the only thing i can think to do with it is write it down. (hence my poem to my mother)

finishing my work I stand up and hold it out at its full length.

"There its finished! I really do hope he likes it"

Holding it to my chest I spin around like a school girl who just had her first kiss.

Realizing how silly I'm being I stop, fold the work and drop it into my bag. Picking up the blanket and bag I make my way back to the group.

On my way there I hear some one talking. curiosity getting the better of my I follow the sound. I end up back at the lake. Scanning the edge of the lake my eyes come across Rider, standing skyclad at the waters edge!

At that moment Labban comes through the trees and stops.

I use M. Weddel for my poetry. First initial and married name.

M. Leblanc-Lowrey for short stories. First initial, mothers maiden name and my maiden name.

I use my maiden name and mothers maiden name to show where I get my "talent" (for lack of a better word) from, plus my short stories are usually about my past. I use my married name to show where I get my encouragement and muse from.

I take the time before everybody is ready to go to the inn to grab my bag and head into the woods.

"I've been neglecting my work for the past couple of days." I say to myself quietly.

I Find a nice quiet spot and stop. Opening my bag I pull out a small blanket and spread it out on the ground. Sitting down I search my bag for my needle and tread. Once I find those I pull out the piece I've been working on. I hold it up in front of my to see what all I have left to do.

"Oh wonderful! Its almost done! I hope he likes it."

Threading my needle I start on the last few stitches.

Making sure everybody is preoccupied I sneak away into the woods. I noticed before we landed that there was a lake not too far away.

Making my way to the edge of the lake I kneel and stare at the water, conjuring the image I need.

"Yes child, what is it now?"

"We have stoped again master. We will be here through the night. I also over heard Rider say we will no longer be using the dragons, we will be on horse back from now on."

"Very well. Contact me before you leave. Is that all?"

"Yes master"

"Very well then. GO!"

"Yes master"

Standing up I straighten out my dress. As I brush the grass from my skirt I hear voices.

Walking back through the woods I come to a clearing were I see Mac and Labban practicing. I watch as Labban swings his sword.

*What power he has, I never noticed how strong he really is*

I continue watching even after Mac as left.

*The way he handles that staff is amazing!*

Snapping back to myself I return to the group in the clearing.

"So has anybody figured out where we're sleeping tonight?"

I believe with all my heart and soul that euthenasia should be legal and practiced!! We don't let our beloved pets suffer. Why should the people we love have to suffer? sad.gif

I have been asking this question since my nana passed. (I was in 10th grade) She had alzhiemers. (SP?) She thought my older sister was my mom and my younger sister was my older sister. My little brother and I didn't even exsist. The night she died my mom and I sat by her bed. My mom read her the bible and sang her favorite hyms and prayed for God to take her so she wouldn't suffer any more. That was the worst thing I'd ever experienced. I kept asking the doctors why they wouldn't give her anything for her pain. They told me it would be too tempting for them to give her "too much". Just one more reason I hate doctors.

I was watching a show last night called Any Day Now. For those of you that don't know it heres a short description. Its about the lives of 2 women, one white and one black that have been friends since they were 10 yrs old. They grew up in Alabama in the early sixties (if I'm not mistaken) and have dealt with a lot of things especially racism. It really is a neat show. Anyways the black woman is a very well know lawyer (in the show) and she took on a client that was getting fired from her job as a teacher because the school board found out that she was a Wiccan.

Now my question to you is, If you found out that one of your childrens teachers was a Wiccan, BUT shows no signs of it and doesn't talk about in class what would you do?
