when i moved to SC my trainer got the idea that she would put me on a racehorse to get him back into action. ever since that day i had been exersizing racehorses for her some sun up to sun down. but then the time came and nothing was going good so we moved to a differant farm. the trainer i ride with now is an X-steeplejockey but he is very big in the hunter/jumpers area. it seems everyone i turn to for advise about riding racehorses and finding a racing barn, gives me the total opposite advise i want to hear. they say that it is too dangerous and that they would not recomend it. but the people that say that have never seen me ride. some advise would be really helpful right about now.

thanks abunch!

Don't know what to say. Highlander Lassie will probably be able to help you next time she gets on.

Hi Liz..
Question for you .. age ?? smile.gif
Race tracks ,are where it sounds to me ,like you want to be ..
Flat or Over fences .. being of a certain age changes from State to State..

Breezing flat racing horses is a great way to stay well
Galloping fit !

Did you notice that Shorty Jones' breeze rider was 176 pounds ?
interesting training techinque there ... making him carry all that weight..
great for bone density in a young horse..

Anyway .. SC has a lot more H/Js and Polo barns than race tracks..
but you might find a small track.. and don't be discouraged if they want you to
start out as a Hot Walker, or Ponying ...
Given a choice about tracks myself.. gimme S/C or Timber anyday !
Flat racing to me is just boring.. keep an open mind ..
Who know's you might just be the next great lady S/C P/C or Timber Jockey !

Good Luck with your search..
And happy long days in the saddle !

Paula

Paula,

thankyou soso much for your information... your first question was how old am i well i am 14 years old and in sc the age to get your jockey's licence is 16. My trainer said that i will be too tall to be a jockey...I am about 5 5 and at a very very slim chance of growing. then his wife is all for me looking for a racing barn but the more and more my mom talks to x-jockeys the more and more she is not wanting me to go into the profession. i do think that that is very interesting how much smarty's jockey weighed and how they must have trained him. I am mainly interested in steeplechasing but i also do like galloping a flat racing. I agree that flat can get very boring, i watch TVG all the time and just can't seem to find that much excitment in it. thankyou again so much smile.gif

always galloping faster than thinking

Liz ..
You are so welcome smile.gif
Maybe the next, best avenue for you is a timber or steeple chase barn..
It seems to be where your heart lies..and your love of speed wink.gif
The Eastern part of PA is loaded with them..
I am sure there have to be some around you !

Your age , and height would not be an issue.. either ...
Have you ever done any Combined Training?
I LOVE Three Day Eventing..
First day Dressage, Second X Country , Third Stadium jumping...
keeps you on your toes... and its a blast ..
You would also get a taste of everything.. never a bad thing ..

Pony Clubs do a lot of gymkanas.. and fox hunting..
Check out the ones in your area..
If you ever do want to go pro , in any style of riding..
Or get your BHS.. an A Pony Club rating is a good thing to have ..

Keep following your heart Liz.. and listen to your Mom too..
she only wants whats best for you !
And she sees those old jocks,,, all beat up..
No Mom on earth wants her Daughter to grow up at a track smile.gif
So you have LOTS and LOTS of choices !
Keep trying new things.. you never know what you may fall
head over heels for , when horses are involved..heart.gif

Good luck !

Paula
