Originalghirl! I wondered how Vanity Fair would be. Thank you for your critique!

love your personal photo, btw! Were you at Applebees? Our Applebees looks much like that inside is why I ask. smile.gif

You're welcome! biggrin.gif

Actually my personal photo is me in March 2003 with Graham Wright of the Glengarry Bhoys at some really ancient pub in Ireland. I can't even remember the name of it! We stopped their for lunch one day while touring Southern Ireland. beer_mug.gif

I'm about to hear the new Enter the Haggis CD. MacFive tells me he's sending me the one that I won tomorrow.

Saw the Bhoys last night at Green Lane Highland Games. They played two evening sets - both spectacular. Their new CD is out - Mountain Road. It is all newly arranged old Bhoys favorites and sounds much like their live sets. I really love it and highly recommend it to Celtic music lovers.

I'm seeing the Bhoys again in two weeks at Celtic Classic. They are doing a Friday evening concert before heading out to the NH Highland Games.

I've been going to the Celtic Classic in Bethlehem for a little over a decade now. For a free festival it's one of the best in the region. Two years ago I got to see Wolfstone there and then hung out with them in the brewpub afterwards. I've also been fortunate enough to discover new favorites there over the years such as Seamus Kennedy and a great fiddling duo from the Isle of Mull - Tabache. The Glengarry Bhoys keep me coming back year after year. This year they are only playing on Friday night since they are heading up to the NH Highland games Saturday and Sunday. There's plenty of vendors and food to choose from, and such a variety of entertainers that nearly any age can enjoy. I highly recommend this fest. Since the 'park' they use to host the fest is directly below the main drag of Bethlehem, you also have the convenience of some local eateries, lovely little shops and some good hotels. Bethlehem is very 'walkable' and is quite charming. I'll be there Friday night for the Bhoys concert! biggrin.gif

Saw Vanity Fair on Thursday evening. It was just fair - not exceptional. The cinematography was choppy and oddly framed. Found out after the showing that Reese Witherspoon was pregnant during filming and they had to hide it for most of the movie. The costumes were over the top - very exxagerated period designs in odd colors and combinations but I guess that's what they were going for. Overall the film kept my attention but don't rush out to see it in theaters. I recommend waiting for DVD.

Seeing Princess Diaries 2 tomorrow! My best friend and I always go to the girlie movies together cause no one else will go with us! biggrin.gif

Wow! OriginalGhirl! What a very interesting history you have there! One of my great-grandmothers was an indentured servant too. She has a Scottish surname, but have not been able to prove much more than that.

Yeah it is pretty interesting. About 70% of the indentured servants sent to the colonies died within 5 years of arriving from illness and other things.

You should see if any one has done research on the indentured servants sent here from Scotland. You could probably find out more info about your great grandmother.

Saw Alien vs. Predator on Saturday night. Not as bad as I thought - something of a story. The Predator armor was awesome and the sets were really good. smile.gif Could have been a real loser but it was entertaining in a light sort of way - not truly scary like the first Alien movie which still makes me curl up in a ball on the bed so that no limbs are hanging over the sides. tongue.gif

I can't make it there, but the geek in me really wants to get to DragonCon in Atlanta.

DragonCon is good fun. I went the last two years but can't make it this year. A little thing known as a school required internship is in the way. rolleyes.gif

I am Presbyterian from a long line of Presbyterians. For more information about this denomination check out PC(USA)

My original ancestors who came to the US were some of the first Presbyterians in Scotland known as Covenanters. They got arrested for handing out leaflets about their meetings and were thrown into Tolbooth Prison in Edinburgh. After about two weeks they were brought to trial but got off with a light sentence. They were sent to the Eastern Shore of Maryland as indentured servants instead of being executed. I'm 13th generation American and Presbyterian. biggrin.gif

My username has a quite simple explanation. I would assume most of you are familiar or have heard of the Glengarry Bhoys. They are from Glengarry County, Ontario and play Celtic rock. I met them way back when there were only two of them sometime in 1997 I think. I stuck with them as the band changed and evolved and supported their growing fan base by creating and moderating a Yahoo Group for them. A group of us who hardly ever missed a gig in the NE were called the "Ghirls" (as opposed to the name of the band-Bhoys). I was the original "Ghirl" having coined the name for those of us hardcore Fhans that showed up at gigs constantly in PA, NY, NJ, and DE. So, hence I'm "OriginalGhirl" biggrin.gif

I'm optimistic about the goodness of people in general. I take people at face value, basically trusting them and what they say to me. Unfortunately over the last few years I've learned that most people can't really be trusted and I've learned to restrain my trusting nature until I know an individual better. It's amazing how many people are constantly unkind to others simply because a person doesn't believe what they believe or thinks something different. I look for honesty and loyalty. Trust grows as I get to know the person. smile.gif
