Tomorrow will be my last day on the Forum. I have thought about this for some time now and finally made the decission to leave. It was fun while it lasted but of late the forum seems to have been highjacked by right-wing ultraconservatives who think that their stance is the only one that has merit. As an outsider I found that it was best in the end to keep my opinions to myself. So I will leave our American Cousins to their Politics (which by the way they take far to seriously)and sit here in the True North enjoying the life that my Centre of the Road, semi-socialist, Constitutional Monarchy Country provides for me.
I wish all of you nothing but the best but it is time to bid you all a fond Adieu, Farewell, Cheerio, Toodle loo, GOOD BYE.
I'm so sorry to hear this! I've really enjoyed your posts. They've given me great insight into your political processes and your healthcare system and even the non-political ones have been nice.
Thank you for everything you've taught me about that. I do hope you change your mind.
I too will miss your POV on things. While I don't agree with some of them, they were always welcome. I hope you will pop in again sometime. I too will not be here as much now that I have my new computer. I can go back to gaming as a way to spend my time.
Fare well

You will indeed be missed my friend. Leave in the knowledge that you have more friends than you realize, and if you decide to come back, know that you will be welcomed with open arms. Be well and take care.
This is truly disheartening but I understand your frustration here in the Politics Forum. Maybe when the winds shift you will entertain the idea of returning and participating again. Your vantage point as our northerly neighbor provides you with an unique insight that needs to be expressed and we are all poorer for the loss of it.

Camac I will miss you so much. I hope you know that the door is always open to you. May be just pop in once in awhile? You contribute so very much to this forum I really don't want you to go but I understand. Thanks for everything
It seems that inadvertantly you have placed me in a most embarassing conundrum. It also seems that I have stirred up a bit of a hornets nest, which I had no intention of doing. Most perplexing. I was fully committed to this being my final day but now with the kind, sincere wishes from all of you I find myself in a quandary. Mayhaps I was too "quick off the line"in my decision so perhaps a 2-3 month hiatus (checking in now and then) is the route to take. To be perfectly honest I am in somewhat of a turmoil caused by your reactions to my leaving. I am not use to people reacting to me or any thing I do in this manner and I am a bit confused. I will close now and take the rest of the day to think on this. I am also finding it difficult to express my appreciation to all of you. So I will just say THANKS.
Camac, I hope you will stay. As I said, you have more friends than you realize. You sir, are well respected and a valued member of this community. I know that the posts of some have been more than you felt you could take, but those are very much in the minority. I understand your surprise. I too, find it difficult to accept that others would actually notice if I disappeared, but I have come to realize that there may be some who think more of me than I knew. Certainly, this member of the CR family considers you a friend very much worth having and keeping.
Perhaps just the general discussion areas would be better for now? Leave the political forum alone? I moderate another forum and though I must check in on all of them, there are areas I don't post in unless there's a need to step in. If I posted, I'd end up feeling much like you. I know this because I went through a similar thing.
Please reconsider. Whether I've agreed with you or not, I value your opinions. After all, if we all shared the same opinion, there would never be any discussions at all. And an exchange of opinions and viewpoints is good for the soul.
Again, I would encourage you to stay. Maybe the answer is to take a breather and just watch what develops.
Here in the United States the entire nation is in turmoil. Everyone is finding out what is really important to them and making a decision to actually do something constructive to resolve the issues confronting America. This is where the passion is coming from. I don't think that it is personal. It is unfortunate that anyone that decides to take a contrary view is ridiculed.
Your views are necessary for these rather rabid discussions. As the provide a real viewpoint from outside the country looking at we are doing.
"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. "
I had no idea my saying I was leaving would have caused this reaction. I have a rabid dislike for extremism in any form and I am an outsider looking in on your politics and there has been more than one occassion where I have had to bite my tongue and walk away for awhile to calm down. Every man woman or child has the right to an opinion and as you quoted we may not agree but we will defend your right to have it even unto death. Politics cannot work without compromise and compromise means listening to the other side and finding a middle ground.
As you know we come from two completely different political systems and most Canadians are middle of the road, we just don't take politics that seriously, with the rare acceptions, like proroguing Parliament with out just cause, or a few years ago with the Quebec referendum to separate. We tend to get a bit annoyed when someone tries to break the country apart, but if Quebec had chosen to leave we would have to learn to live with it. Sure as hell wasn't worth going to war over. These Tea Party rallies that you have would never occur here as the saying goes "Not our cup of Tea" we just don't operate that way. Must be something in the climate. (No it is not always cold here).
I am going to take the rest of to-day and sleep on it to-night but I am leaning towards taking an hiatus for awhile and see what happens.
These tea parties we're having here, which I have not and don't plan to attend, are, I think, a part of our country's character. By that, I mean, the original Boston Tea Party was a key event in our march toward the American Revolution and our gaining our independence.
I think it's in our country's nature, if that makes sense. Whether it's right or wrong in this case, it is what it is. So in this instance, this is where I have to agree with stevenpd. We're often too passionate about things here.
Please, don't let this run you off though. Hiatus' are good. Then come back. I would miss your posts.

Camac,
This reaction is in direct response to your demeanor when you do post. Granted we may not agree on some things but everyone is entitled to their opinion. Some forget it and take things too personal.
I have always found that the parliamentarian form of government rather fascinating. It works for Canada but the unknown can sometimes be frightening to those who are not aware of things outside their sphere of influence.
I believe the rallies are something of an unusual occurrence and a result of rather extraordinary times. This too shall pass.
Sleep well. I am looking forward to your possible return in, hopefully, the near future.
