I have never been a runner and actually hadn't really jogged for thirty five years (grade 8) when I decided to try another challenge. I signed up for the Spartan Race in February and just ran it last Sunday at Mont Ste Marie, Quebec. I had the choice of three races, the "Sprint" (5km (3 miles)), the "Super" (10km (6miles)) or the "Beast" (10+ km (12+ miles)). I signed up for what is known as the Beast with the attitude of "Go big or go home". The total distance ended up being 23.9 km (15 miles) with over 25 obstacles scattered throughout the course. The total ascent (4 times up the mountain) was approximately 4500 feet. I have to say that although I still don't like running, I am hooked on this type of race. Feeling alive (now that the muscles have recovered) and planning on doing all three lengths next year!

Anybody else have experience in this type of race?
