I have a question about the programing today. At 4:08pm EST the website said that requests were enabled, and that the current program was "celtic gold". What I noticed however, is that there was over 90 minutes of songs already in the Queue to be played...and these were not requests. So it seems that any requests that get put in, will not get played for over 2 hours. By then, requests get disabled at 5:30pm. Tell me please....what's the point of having them enabled if there's not a snowball's chance of getting played until 8:00pm when the requests are enabled again? unsure.gif

I agree with you. The way it is setup it does increase the wait time for a song request if you request it near the time that requests are disabled. Then the song goes into the request queue and does not come out until requests are enabled.

I am going to look at this request enable/disable schedule and see if we can open up requests for a greater part of the day. Also, the request status on the frontpage is not just working yet. It shows requests are enable all the time. Should have that little bit of code working properly tonight!

Gonna place this here as I don't wish to add a new topic when this will do just fine.

I've noticed on a couple of occasions songs that I have requested have disappeared from the request queue. The song could be sitting the the queue for a few hours waiting for scheduled programming to run it's course but the song was never played in that stretch of time and when I go to check the request queue once the hour or so is up a song that I requested is gone, vanished, never to be seen. Now I don't mind if my song gets played in the course of say a Celtic Gold broadcast...but to lose the request entirely is another thing considering we have a limited number of requests per 24hrs.

Has this happened to anyone else or does the system just not like my choices?

Requests are a funny thing! I am actually review our request policy and one thing I should mention is there are certain rules about what songs are played on our broadcast and when.

For example. No songs from the same artist within 30 minutes, no song played twice within 90 minutes.

This could delay a song request if the song recently played or even an artist. So, it stays in the queue.

Do you think we offer too many requests and should limit it?

No, I think the more requests the better. The problem is how do you allow the maximum number of requests, comply with the myriad of regulations imposed on online broadcasters, and keep the, how can I say this.... unsure.gif ....., the less ethical among us from abusing the system? I'm hoping that you, our online Clan Chieftain and the Great Technical Wizard that runs this place, will work some magic (maybe with a little technical help from the other computer whizzes we have here as members of our little community).

Well, that's my two cents. walkman.gif

I have noticed this also. They sometimes do end up being played as requests. I have noticed the a request will disappear, so I will try to request it again and I get a message that it is in the queue, but I can not see it. Other times, I will request disappear but appear in the upcoming songs soon as requested but still not in the request queue. There might be a small glitch, but I find that when request disappear, they still are in the system and will be played.

I think the current request limit is fine. I have noticed that if I make requests in the evening that there are time that I have reach my 15 by noon the next day. Is it 15 request per day or 15 request in 24 hrs?

Thanks,
Greg

15 request per 24 hour period. Yes, this is a common question. So, you might only have 3 requests and then get 2 more, (5) because you had requested 10 songs in the previous 24 hours.

What about disabling requests an hour before scheduled programming is scheduled to begin and enabling requests an hour before scheduled programming is scheduled to end?

As an example --
4:00 Disable requests
5:00 Programming starts

7:00 Enable requests
8:00 Programming ends

That would eliminate at least some of the cases where someone requests something too close to when scheduled programming begins for it to be able to play beforehand. It would also allow listeners to request things to play soon after the scheduled programming ends instead of not being able to request anything that plays within an hour of programming ending unless it's requested prior to the programming beginning and requests being disabled.

Of course, if making requests and allowing songs from the request queue to go into the main queue are enabled/disabled together, it wouldn't work, but if they're not, it wouldn't seem to be excessively complicated.

I think there might be a problem with the Tuesday schedule. Requests were disabled at 6:30pm and have not been re-enabled by a quarter to midnight. From looking at the schedule looks like they will not be enabled until 8am on Wednesday.

Thanks,

All the songs that were requested before 6:30pm last night started playing about 8am this morning. The request queue is empty, but they still getting played and they are showing as being requested. I think this helps answer someones question about songs that were requested but disappear out of the request queue.

Since we have started advertising our new search tool and request system on the broadcast we have noticed that requests have increased dramatically!!!

We are holding the line on the number of requests to 15. But biting our nails because we may need to lower it at some point otherwise we will become a request only broadcast! biggrin.gif
